For as long as Cloud could remember, he had been taught the songs and prayers for offerings. He had been blessed with the strength of the wolf, the eyes of the wolf, and the cunning intelligence of the wolf. He had never crossed outside of Nibelheim’s borders. He was Fenrir’s.
So, why then, did Cloud feel an aching burn on his chest?

Summary
Sephiroth really only wanted one kind of offering.
Despite the fact that Cloud wasn't his follower, he still insisted on getting Sephiroth other kinds of offerings. It was absurd, almost foolish, really. Sephiroth had been more than clear on what he wanted from Cloud.
But, his usual offerings or not, Sephiroth would also never reject an offering from Cloud.
