Summary
Ponyboy and Curly reunited at a flower child protest in May of 1970. Well, Curly has and will always make it clear that Ponyboy was at a flower child protest in May of 1970. Curly was touring the south — looking for a purpose he never did find — and just happened to be in Austin at the time. Ponyboy, without fail over the past decades, would then add that he was only there because his brother had been drafted (he never really gave much of a shit about the war itself after that), and explain how he left after things got violent. Then Curly would call him a hippie, Ponyboy would playfully smack him, and they’d link their pinkies together just like in the summer of ‘71.
Or: Ponyboy and Curly reunite in 1970. Everything is changing, and so are they, but in the end they have each other.

Summary
Ponyboy had a very bad excuse for being in the cooler. He was planning on arguing it was because he didn’t deserve to be in there anyway, but he didn’t know how well Darry would take that. With the way his brother had sounded on the phone, he was just glad Darry was bailing him out at all. He’d have to take what he could get, though, because Curly seemed to be more upset that Tim agreed to post bail than he would be if he were stuck overnight.
Disturbing the peace was hardly a crime in Ponyboy’s eyes. He’d take Curly’s opinion for backup, but Curly thinks street fights and swiping things from the gas station’s hardly a crime too. This case specifically was even more ridiculous than Ponyboy would’ve ever thought possible though; he had half the mind to argue it was his peace that was disturbed.
OR: Purly gets arrested after Curly causes a scene choking on a cherry in the dingo. Darry pays bail.

Summary
Ponyboy picked up the pace, reaching the fence in record time. He hopped the fence, tucking into a bush as he waited for Curly to do the same.
And waited.
And waited.
And then he realized what had happened. Not because Curly made it over the fence, but because there were no more footsteps on the other side of the fence. There wasn’t Curly’s cocky little snicker jumping right after him.
OR: Curly tries to sacrifice himself for Ponyboy, making both of them work through their respective abandonment issues
