Two years before the start of the Fifth Blight, a Chasind tribe gave shelter to a young woman named Erin. She joins the last remaining Grey Wardens in Ferelden and their companions as they all work together, building an army to fight the darkspawn.

Along the way, she finds community, family and herself.

Since birth, twins Marian and Garrett Hawke were inseparable. However, while Bethany was practicing magic with her elder sister outside of Denerim, two Templars found them. Marian took the blame and was immediately escorted to Kinloch Hold, leaving a scared Bethany behind to tell their family.

As they set up camp for the night, one Templar offered to set Marian free if she did him a "favor". An elven woman intervened, killing the two men and taking the girl under her wing. They eventually made their way to Seheron where they met a glowing, white-haired warrior.

Ever since Mahanon found Ellana in the woods, emaciated and bleeding, the two kept mainly to each other. As his clan's Second, Mahanon's magic was not accustomed to much more than simple healing and tending to the hearth.

Ellana eventually took to being a warrior quite well. When the time came to officially become an adult within the clan, Ellana chose to honor the God of Vengeance: Elgar'nan. She demanded the most intricate style of his vallaslin, taking each stab of the needle without a single tear.

Mahanon liked men and absolutely refused to bond with a woman. When a past dalliance was revealed to Keeper Deshanna, the young man was volunteered to spy on the human Conclave on behalf of the Dalish.

Naturally, Ellana refused to let Mahanon take the journey alone, unprotected. The decision was not made lightly nor was it without consequences.
