Summary
“This is going to be awkward,” Luke sighs down at the baby in his arms. R2 beeps besides him and Luke nods in agreement. “Nothing to do but go back.”
His X-Wing is almost completely dismantled, sparking where wires hang limply. There is no way he’s getting off of this cruiser until it’s repaired. There aren't even any escape pods on board all of the docking bays empty. He hadn’t anticipated this, and now he was going to have to walk back to the bridge with the baby and explain himself to a heartbroken Mandalorian.

Summary
“Sorry,” Din husks. His throat hurts, his nose hurts, his head hurts. The impromptu nap had left a heaviness like lead hanging heavy in his bones. He isn’t handling himself well, especially not in front of a stranger who had clearly shown himself to be powerful.
“Why are you sorry?” The Jedi asks, he’s smiling at Din, like he knows him. Din doesn’t know how to feel about that.
Din’s hands twitch as he shrugs, a listless thing, “ I normally don’t, um, cry. In front of people,” Well. He does, just not that much. He’d cried on the Slave 1 after the Razor Crest was destroyed and Grogu taken from him.

Summary
Din grabs the helmet and Luke steps forwards, desperation flashing through him, “Wait.” and Din waits. No more of his face is shown to Luke like the first time, and his eyes darken. “You have brown eyes.” a truly stupid thing to say, something that would earn him a slap to the back of his head from his sister.
Din’s eyebrows furrow, “It’s a common color in the galaxy.”

Summary
“Make up your mind fast, Mandalorian,” Fennec says, she’s standing at the top of the ramp leading into the Slave 1. She’s looking down at them a frown on her face. “Boba, our time is short.”
“I’ll stay,” Din says, “But not for you.” he tells Bo-Katan to sway the smirk curling her lips. “I’ll stay and help Luke get out of here and then we’ll decide what to do.”
“Very well. I wish you and your ad’ika the best of luck,” Boba says clasping Din’s forearm. Perhaps I’ll return to Mandalore.” He sends Bo-Katan a grin and she turns away.
“Thank you for your help burc’ya. May our paths cross again.” Din finds himself meaning it. Boba had never betrayed his trust, like so many of the people Din had come in contact with.

Summary
“It’s…” Luke struggles for words, but the visor is turning towards his eyes now.
“It’s fine. I was just caught off guard. I was not expecting,” Din nods towards the hand awkwardly and Luke breaths out a laugh.
“Didn’t used to look like this,” Luke sighs, making a fist and wincing as the parts creak and click. He needed a tune up, maybe he could do it with just R2 to help him out.
“Well I should think not.” Din deadpans and Luke stares at him. When he just sits there arms crossed completely serious Luke laughs. Loud and a little jarring, even Din flinches.
“No,” he’s still laughing, trying to reign himself in enough to speak clearer. “Even after I lost it, it still looked like a human hand.”
“Oh.” it’s such a timid sound coming out of Din that Luke feels himself crack up again. He wonders blearily if it’s the exhaustion more than anything. He rubs at his eyes and slumps down onto his elbows.
“Yeah, oh.”

Summary
Pershen falls quiet, and Cara falls quiet, and Luke falls quiet.Din thunks his head back against the wall with a metallic clang squeezing his eyes shut behind the visor of his helmet. This is too much for him. Searching along the floor he grabs Luke’s hand. Intertwining their fingers like he had in the hall, Luke squeezes his hand.
“Maybe I can find you somewhere quiet,” Din mutters, “Without any interruptions.”
Luke turns away from the conversation at hand, eye wide and mouth lifted in a tiny smile, “I’d like that.”
And if Cara looked pointedly aware with a smile of her own, Din pretends not to notice.

Summary
“I grew up on Tatooine. I know the feeling. I couldn’t wait to get off of that planet.”
Din has started walking again, catching up to Grogu who has gained impressive distance on them. “Ever been to Jakku?”
“Once. What an awful planet."
It’s Din who laughs this time, bending to accept the leaf Grogu offers him. He takes it in a delicate hands saying soft words to Grogu. When he stands he offers the leaf to Luke. Handled carefully in soft palms. Luke takes it from him, holds it up to the sun to map the intertwining veins that bleed through the green and yellow. Not unlike his own veins. Grogu has noticed his little gift has been passed to Luke, and he turns his head between Luke and Din then down at the squirming bug caught in his grip.

Summary
“We should bury the dead.”
“That’s a lot of people Cara,” Din says softly. He didn’t disagree though. The bodies of the storm troopers and the other crew had laid in unrest long enough. Din had no pity for the empire, but if the bodies were left they would begin to stink.
“We don’t even have to bury them I guess. We could just pile them up and let the local fauna take care of them.”
“No.” This planet was where Din first offered himself to someone in a way he never has. He doesn’t want it sullied by death. He will probably never return to this planet again, the grass and water will drift into pleasant memory. The warmth and the feeling of Luke’s beating heart against his would be kept close to him. “We’ll bury them.”

Summary
It’s a quiet night. Damp and cold from the rain that had battered the planet throughout the day. Bugs hum softly meshing cleanly with the soft breathing of the woman on the other side of the shelter. It’s shattered by the boom of a ship coming out of hyperspace and coming into the atmosphere. Din is up before Luke can react, knife pulled stepping in front of Luke and Grogu, shielding them from the entrance. Luke stands stepping around Din waving him down.
“It’s okay. Leia is here.”

Summary
“Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum.” Luke responds, his lips sticking together against the words, sluggish with sleep and mispronunciation. But Luke had begged Din to teach him the words, and he practiced them to the sky and he’d made sure that Din could feel them permanently, pressed gently into his skin.
