The country of samurai. This country was called that a long time ago. Now, the age of samurai is already over. However, their souls, the souls of silver, still live on.
2 years had passed since the final battle against Utsuro and Tendoushuu that occurred in the terminal. Even after getting freed from Tendoushuu control and pretty much Amanto control, and entering the new era, the country still had to face hardships. They ended the dark age, but the bright age was not stabilized yet.
As for Yorozuya Trio, they recently started to receive much more job request compared to before. This was because there was a rumor that they were some of the heroes of the grand wars, which was true. They were not famous, though.
Yorozuya Trio spent the day just like they always did. Gintoki leaned on his chair with a Jump on his face, Kagura lay on the sofa, and Shinpachi mopped the floor. They did not have any schedule that day.
"Is this how you make your first appearance in a fanfiction?!" Shinpachi shouted. "Get up and help me do chores!!!"
"But I'm too lazy..." Gintoki groaned. "I'm too lazy to even breathe at this point."
"Then stop breathing and suffocate!!!" Shinpachi yelled. "Kagura - chan, do some chores!!!"
"A queen does not do labor." Said Kagura.
"Harumph." Shinpachi gave up and proceeded to clean.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Shinpachi, knowing that Gintoki and Kagura won't do a thing, walked towards the door to greet the guest. To his surprise, it was Sougo.
"Okita - san?! Why are you here?!" Shinpachi didn't expect this.
"Trying to become an important character in this fanfic by appearing so early, punk?!" Kagura snapped.
"Yo. Fancy meeting you, Danna, China, and... who were you?" Sougo greeted.
"I'm Shinpachi!!! It's been a week since we met and you already forgot my name?!" Shinpachi shouted.
"What are you here for, though?" Gintoki asked.
"A job request." Said Sougo.
"Huh? A tax robber like you? Job request? Is an asteroid gonna fall or something?" Gintoki was a bit surprised.
"It's nothing special. I just need some cannon fodders these days." Sougo joked.
"Huh? By cannon fodders, do you mean us, Okita - kun?" Gintoki snapped.
"Danna, I need your help. The fate of the country is in your hands." Said Sougo.
"Is the matter that serious?" Shinpachi asked.
"Yup. In fact, it's the chief of police department who asked me to visit you." Said Sougo.
"Nobutasu? That means..." Kagura realized something. "Is Soyo - chan in danger?!"
"Something like that." Said Sougo. "Even after the beginning of the new era and the end of the Amanto rule, this country still did not heal from the scars of war. Due to the massive troops sent in war and the major re - construction of the city, financial crisis began, and the government had no choice to rely on Amantos in order to survive. Using this as an opportunity, the Amantos started to boss around again, and political instability worsened as the remnants of bakufu's forces started to go against the new government in order to overthrow it."
"So we're still living through tough times, huh..." Shinpachi sighed.
"There are two major issues we Shinsengumi are dealing with." Sougo continued. First, the remnants of bakufu's forces are recently unified by Hitotsubashi Yurika and her brother Hitotsubashi Raigen. They also started to absorb anti - government factions in order to gain enough strength to overthrow the government. Second, there is a conspiracy theory that something might be pulling the threads behind Amanto racists these days, and the sudden and near - simultaneous change within the Amantos prove that."
"So? What is our role?" Gintoki asked. "How much am I getting paid for, though?"
"Gin - san!!" Shinpachi scolded.
"Here, take this." Sougo gave Gintoki the envelope for payment.
"!!!!" Gintoki opened the envelope and was shocked at how much he was getting paid. "Give me any order you want, your majesty!!!" He knelt before Sougo.
"..." Shinpachi looked at Gintoki in disdain.
"Danna, your role is to gather up as many allies as you can." Said Sougo. "Oniwabanshuu, Yagyuu Clan, Hyakka, and others. It is you who brought everyone into a family of idiots. Only you can do this."
"So I need to atone for mixing up all the problematic people into a single gang, huh." Gintoki said, digging his nose. "Alright, request accepted."
Just then, Sougo's smartphone rang. Smartphones were widely distributed in this era. Sougo piked up the call, which was from Hijikata.
"Hijikata - san?"
"Sougo!! Hurry up and come to Nasugawa Hotel!!!" Hijikata shouted. "We're fighting the Shinkai Faction terrorists here!!!"
"Roger." Sougo hung up the call. "Then, Danna, good luck." He left immediately.
"Gin - san, shouldn't we help him?" Shinpachi asked.
"I've got no choice. Let's go, fellas." Gintoki stood up, picking up his wooden sword.
"Yorozuya Gin - chan, to battle!!!" Kagura cracked her knuckles and led the way.
Meanwhile, Shinsengumi policemen were fighting fiercely against the terrorists of Shinkai Faction in front of Nasugawa Hotel. Shinkai Faction, which was an anti - government organization, used the hotel as their fortress and held dozens of civilians as hostages. Shinsengumi had 350 men on their side, while Shinkai Faction had 280.
"Haaaaahhhh!!!" Hijikata slew 7 terrorists in one slash, and broke through the swarm of enemies. His soldiers followed him from behind.
"Kill them all!!!"
"Traitors of the nation!!!"
"Go!! Go!! Go!!"
"Dogs of the government!!!"
"Receive divine punishment from us!!!"
"Annihilate them!!!"
The bloody melee went on as the swordsmen clashed brutally. Nearly a hundred dead bodies lay on the ground and blood splattered all across the land. It was war.
