„Okay that‘s really enough now little bat!“, Till says to the bat, trying to tear the blood bag away from its fierce grasp.
The bat squeaks in displeasure, flapping its wings rapidly and tries to hold onto the bag with all its might. For a bat it really is insanely strong…
„I swear to god! You had enough blood today! I can’t cover this up any longer you hear me?!“, he tries to argue with the bat and tears a little harder at it.
After a little while his strength eventually leaves him and he lets the blood bag go, falling back on the ground, with a loud thud.
„Ouch…“, Till groans in pain and looks up to the bat flapping in the air, with the bag in its claws, in annoyance.
Ever since he found this little troublemaker in their blood stock, Till had been helping the weird little bat get its food…
He just felt bad in a way and the bat seemed really weak back then and even struggled to fly properly..
Well in comparison to now at least… Now it’s more than healthy and doesn’t necessarily need their blood supplies anymore…
Well of course the little bat would need to hunt animals again and fend for itself again…
He feels bad having to kick the bat out eventually and just basically abandon it into the wilderness…
But someday someone from the hospital will notice the missing supplies and it won’t take long for them to find out, who was behind it…
The bat, unaware of his inner turmoil is sipping from the blood bag now, it’s little fangs pierced into the plastic, to drink from it. Its sitting on the table in the middle of the room and hugging the bag with its wings, to keep it steady.
It‘s so cute and Till has really begun to love this little troublemaker… Which he may have spoiled a little too much..
„Listen up little bat. You can’t keep coming here and feed from our blood supplies..“, Till tries to tell the bat, knowing that it really has no use..
The bat only tilts his head a little, still sipping from the bag and doesn’t make any move to fly away. To be fair it doesn’t even understand human language.
~
And now a little bat is sitting on his bed at home, happily flapping it’s wings and Till can only sigh at that.
Just what has he done..?
He was supposed to release it into the wild, but he just couldn’t…
The little bat probably got way too used to just getting blood from him, that it isn’t exactly an expert at hunting anymore…
Though animals are usually very resistant and he should trust the bats independence a little more probably…
Well now that the bat is here, Till might as well take care of it and search for an alternative for blood bags.
He doubts that he can just feed it his own blood directly, since he did attend med school and doesn’t want to get an infection…
Maybe he can buy some animal blood. Surely the bat only had animal blood, before he met Till.
Just why didn’t he think of that before giving the bat the human blood supplies of the hospital he works at…
Oh yes, the bat had originally tried to drink from Till the first time they met and he had quickly grabbed a blood bag and seduced the bat into drinking from that instead….
That day Till had cut his finger at a syringe and had no time to put on a bandaid, because they needed a specific blood type quickly.
A loud noise of glass shattering wakes him up from his day dreams and he focuses on the bat before him on the table again, which pushed down a vase out of curiosity.
Dear lord, please give me strength… Is all that comes to his mind, in this moment and proceeds to get a broom and sweep the shards into a hand brush and throw them into the trash.
~
After the bat sat on the table for a while, contently taking in its new environment, it decided, to Till‘s demise, to flap around the whole apartment.
Afraid that something might happen to it, Till watches over it the whole time and makes sure it doesn’t hurt itself.
He opens every door for the little bat, it exploring every inch of his apartment, until it explores the bathroom and curiously sticks its head into a toilet paper roll.
Till pauses at that, watching the little fellow getting stuck inside it and walks over, silently judging its intelligence a bit.
The little bat squeaks as it can’t free itself, causing Till to grab it and carefully pulls it out of the toilet paper roll.
„Honestly little bat, you’re dumb and smart at the same time…“, he scolds it a little, as it sits on the ground in shock.
Till picks it up with his hands, walking into his bedroom now and lets it lay on a pillow on his bed.
Honestly this feels like a bad fever dream all in all…
The little bat already flew into the air again, inspecting Till‘s room and he chuckles lightly at its curiosity.
At least his companion is very adorable and seems to be amazed by the new environment it was brought to.
He turns on his phone to do a little research about what bats need, beginning to make some adjustments to his room and creates a small sleeping space.
Thankfully he has a shelf over his bed and Till had no trouble clearing it from books, so that the little fellow can sleep hanging from it.
Weirdly enough his research told him that bats normally eat insects and don’t drink blood. Well a few do, but his bat doesn’t look like the species on google…
How weird. Did the bat just take what it could find out of desperation?
Maybe he should try to offer him some insects and if the bat likes it, he won’t need to buy expensive animal blood!
The little bat is already trying out its new sleeping spot meanwhile and is hanging down from his shelf, wrapped into its wings cocoon wise.
Till only smiles at that picture and silently leaves the room to let it sleep in peace. After all, all these new things must be very exhausting for the bat to take in at once.
That same day Till went out to buy food, resources and other stuff for his new little roommate and hums a happy melody, when he finally arrives home.
The bat is probably still sleeping, even if its already evening, so Till makes sure to quietly store away the things he bought and gets ready for bed.
As expected the little bat still hangs from the shelf and has its little eyes closed, as it seems to be dreaming of something.
He gently pets the bat‘s little head with his finger and then lays down onto his bed, tucking himself in.
„Good night little bat…“, he whispers to it, closing his eyes and drifting off into a dreamless sleep almost immediately.
~
When Till fell asleep the bat leaves its sleeping place and transforms into a young man, with black hair and red tints in his dark eyes.
He quietly watches the other and reaches out a hand to brush some of his hair out of his face and a gentle smile plants onto his face.
Ivan had watched him for quite some time before he broke into the blood supply room and is glad that Till took him to his home on his own terms.
At first he was only after his delicious smelling blood, but when the human began to care for him it was all over for Ivan’s heart…
Nobody ever cared for him as much as Till does before…
He is so pretty sound asleep…
Sadly Ivan can only be like this with him at night and has to be ugly bat during the day, that can’t even speak…
Well at least he can spend a few hours watching him like this and imagining things, Ivan would love to do to him…
His fingers come up to gently trace over Till‘s soft lips and sighs a little. Surely it would startle him if he reveals himself to him and the thought alone makes his heart ache a little.
Vampires are feared in this century and being a bat made it easier to get to blood sources… Though it also means that he can never be with Till…
He feels bad for keeping this from him. He had fallen in love from afar with him, which he didn’t even think was possible…
Now that he is in love with a human, he just wants to appreciate him and be by his side all the time, protecting him from any danger…
So as long as he can stay by Till‘s side as a bat he should be fine…
And at least he can find out some more stuff about him, while he is sleeping and can admire his sleeping face in its full glory…
It’s heaven and hell at the same time. Ivan thinks to himself and ruffles lightly through Till‘s hair, messing it up even more in the process.
~
Over the course of the next week the bat settled into Till’s apartment and became a solid part of his daily routine.
He had tried to feed it insects, which it immediately rejected and he had to throw them away sadly.
Animal blood may be gross, but at least it isn’t as expensive as he expected it to be, so it could be worse!
Well at least that‘s what he tells himself every time, he has to actually feed the little bat and makes sure that it has even portions.
He fears that he may overfeed it at some point and tries his best to keep the little bat’s hunger at bay, even if it gets all pouty, if it doesn’t get more.
Though besides that the bat is easy to take care of and he can leave it alone, while he is at work, without having to worry about it.
So yeah it could definitely be worse!
Also he noticed the bat being strangely invested into the TV and occasionally watching some of his favourite shows with him.
They also cuddle very often! The little bat often just lands on one of shoulders and nuzzles against his cheek, seeking some form of affection from Till.
Also when he wakes up in the morning, there is sometimes a little bat on top of him and cuddling against his chest.
It just makes his heart swell for the little bat…
Till doubts that it can understand anything that is being shown on the show and finds the picture of the little bat watching something it doesn’t even understand, to be amusing.
His days are just so much more fun, with this little bat by his side, that he can’t imagine living without it again…
The only problem he has with the bat, that it will sneak into his bag in the morning and desperately wants to come to work with him.
Because if Till removes it from his bag, it will block the door and try to keep him home instead and even pull at his hair with its little claws.
Luckily the bat is always too sleepy to keep on fighting against him for too long and Till is only almost late for work every morning…
He sure did raise one clingy bat…
Though if he continues being late for work it could end up in him getting fired… Sadly the little bat is very dedicated on, going to work with him…
Which is all in all weird since the bat is sleeping anyway, when he is working! Hah he just doesn’t understand this little fellow…
Well since he didn’t want to be late to work anymore, he just kept the stubborn bat in his bag and already sort of regrets it…
He can only hope that it doesn’t get any dumb ideas during his shift and that he can just ignore its presence.
Still he did package a blood bag, so that it doesn’t starve inside of his bag and doesn’t get any ideas about flying to the blood supply room.
The last thing he needs is drama.
~
Ivan had finally managed to get Till to take him with him to work! It only took him a week of dedicated clinging to his bag and blocking his way.
Yes you can call that a success.
Even though he usually sleeps during the day, he is wide awake for this.
He always misses Till so much, when he goes to work and even if he is probably in his bag the whole time, Ivan can still be near him!
So consider him very excited to be here.
Though on the way there they entered a train and Ivan hadn’t considered how bad humans can smell and how shaky it is inside of a bag.
He has to hold his breath, to not accidentally vomit into Till’s bag, from all the shaking and is glad when they finally leave the train.
Sadly he can’t see much from the little air hole Till made him, making him miss half of what he could see.
How he wishes to just walk by his side… If only he was a normal human and not a feared vampire…
Even if he revealed himself to Till, it wouldn’t mean that the other would just accept him and continue living together with him on top of that.
Well at least he can have a place in his heart as a pet bat! Even though it is sometimes a little below his pride..
They eventually reached Till‘s work place and the human left him in the employee room, after making sure that Ivan doesn’t leave his bag.
Normally he would follow Till‘s rules, but he came here to watch over him! So has to break his rule this one time.
Luckily thanks to his super senses, he is quick to find Till, watching him from high places throughout the building and making himself invisible while doing so.
His heart swells with pride as he watches Till being able to help every human that is in his care and it just makes his affection for him grow.
Though there is this one guy, hanging around Till that just makes his blood boil. That guy is obviously trying to hit on Till multiple times, without him noticing!
He makes dumb jokes about their work and lays his arm around Till‘s shoulders so casually, it almost makes Ivan put a hole into what he is sitting on.
Yeah that guy has to go.
He just takes every contact, conversation and touch for granted and it makes him unbelievably angry.
That should be him.
But no. He is just a stupid bat to Till, which he only views as his pet and only keeps out of pity…
It bothers Ivan.
Before he makes any moves he will regret, the bat returns to Till’s bag and lays down to calm himself down.
He was so excited to accompany Till to work, that he forgot about the possibility of him being close to someone…
Though when he watched him before, he never noticed that guy. Did he just recently get that close to his Till?
It makes him worry.
What if Till gets into a relationship with him or someone else…? Ivan wouldn’t be able to just watch that he fears…
But what is he supposed to do then..? He can’t just leave him then… That would be even worse.
Though to be completely honest, the animal blood also won’t suffice anymore, if this goes on and he already yearns for human blood again.
The longer he stays with Till, the more he will want to desperately bite him and taste that delicious blood, he smelled on their first meeting.
Just what is he supposed to do… He doesn’t want to scare or hurt Till…
But he will end up doing both of these things if he selfishly stays by his side…
For now Ivan will return home with him, then he will see what he can do…
Even thinking about leaving Till hurts him deeply… He has never been this happy in his entire life and he has lived for a very long time.
~
To his luck the bat behaved at work and nobody noticed Till bringing him. As a bonus Arcorn offered to watch a movie tomorrow that he didn’t manage to get tickets for!
Life is good.
When he got home, he released the little bat from his bag and noticed it flying into the kitchen immediately and he chuckles noting that it seems to be feeding time.
Though unlike usually the little bat doesn’t squeak excitedly at the thought of food and just sits there, staring at the wall.
Did he upset it or something…?
Without saying anything, he begins to prepare its food and makes sure to give it a big portion, to lighten its mood.
The little bat doesn’t seem to be happier about the bigger portion and just sips the blood out of the bag, as usual.
Just what has gotten into the little bat? It is usually so cheerful and full of life..
Maybe it‘s sick?
But it still looks healthy and doesn’t seem to be disoriented or something…
So it must be something else…
He decided to leave the bat, be for now and turn on the TV. It usually joins him for watching and snuggles onto Till.
Maybe that can cheer it up. So he pretends to be invested into his show and waits for the bat to do something.
Though after a while of nothing happening, he gives that idea up and only sighs, turning the TV off.
It’s already pretty late too and they don’t seem to be getting on good terms today anymore…
Well, Till tried his best.
That same night, when he went to sleep, Till heard some loud noise and shrieked awake at roughly 2am.
Confused, he looks around for the source of the noise, until his eyes land on a tall man standing across the room and he immediately screams in horror.
„Who are you?! Get out of my house!“, Till screams at him, getting out of bed and holds up his Ibanny plush to shield himself.
The stranger only begins to laugh and he sneaks past him to quickly turn on the light. Once the light is on he can see the stranger’s features better.
He has dark hair, black eyes with red tints inside of them and a snaggle tooth sticking out of his mouth, as he chuckles.
It‘s a beautiful- No he can’t possibly find his perhaps stalker attractive!
Or let‘s say burglar for good measure…
„Sorry… I didn’t mean to scare you like this…“, the man suddenly apologises and holds up his arms into the air.
„I repeat. Get out of my house.“, Till only replies, not caring about the reason why this man is here one bit.
The stranger only tilts his head, smiling a bit and sighs a little. „Could you please listen to me first..?“, he suddenly asks Till.
He stops in his tracks at that thinking about why he should let this stranger defend himself.
Honestly he has no reason to do so, but it really doesn’t seem like he means any harm…
Hah, why not…?
„Spit it out already then..“, he mumbles, avoiding direct eye contact and crosses his arms over his chest.
——————————————————————
„WHAT?!“
~
So Till didn’t take the news really well and maybe transforming before him to prove it, wasn’t wise either…
Because it took him ten minutes to actually move again and as he did move again, the human just sat onto his bed in silence.
The little bat lets out a low sigh and flaps towards him. I didn’t mean to trick you like this Till… he apologises in his head, feeling really bad.
If he hadn’t knocked over something from Till‘s shelf he wouldn’t have needed to reveal this to him and just left without a word some day…
Which also wouldn’t have been very fair to Till either..
Well at least him being a vampire is out now and maybe Till will accept him like this!
He doesn’t have to love him. All he wants is to be near him…
„So let me get this straight. You’re a vampire at night and a bat at day.“, Till summarises the situation and Ivan only nods as a reply, since there is nothing left to say.
Ivan transforms back into his vampire form and sits down beside Till, looking at him silently and then lays his head on his shoulder hesitantly.
„Please… Don’t throw me out…“, he whispers, not daring to look into his eyes and closes his own instead.
It’s a selfish plea, but he finally found something that makes him this happy after so long… He can’t imagine going back to how it was without Till…
His unbeating heart has never felt this warm…
Suddenly he feels a weight on top of his head and he looks up to see the others hand on top of his head.
It begins to slowly move and comb through Ivan’s hair, which feels incredibly nice…
„I mean you’re still the same little bat I found right?“, Till suddenly asks him, making his eyes widen and thousands of questions shoot through his head.
The most occurring one is : Does that mean I can stay..?
The human audibly sighs, still combing through Ivan’s hair and then begins to speak again. „Because if yes… This is your home.“
Ivan’s breathing stops momentarily and it feels like a huge weight just has been lifted off of his shoulders just like that…
„But why..?“, he can’t help but ask in a small voice and doesn’t dare to move, afraid that this is just a dream and will disappear if he does.
„I guess you could say that I know you decent enough to like you.“, the human replies and chuckles lightly.
He supposes that it is true, even if they didn’t speak to each other…
„You’re pretty foolish Till..“, is all Ivan can say to that and immediately gets a bonk on his head.
Well deserved.
~
So that same night they talked about basically everything and Ivan told him about why he was in the hospital in the first place.
Till was baffled more or less and then made him promise to never stalk him again.
Well, let’s see about that…
Though he is very accepting towards his little bat being a vampire after all, even if it still scares him a bit.
„Just one question isn’t animal blood like not enough for Vampires…?“, Till suddenly asks him and Ivan only stares to the ground.
It is true, but he doesn’t really want to hurt Till and bite him…
Should he just lie…?
No better not… Till must be pretty fed up with all his lies and may start to dislike him, if he keeps lying…
„Yeah that’s true… I just didn’t think you’d accept me like this…“, Ivan admits, his head hanging low and he sighs.
Till only shrugs his shoulders lightly at that and stops combing through his hair now.
„Yeah, but we still have to think about what we are going to do now.“, the other replies and just stares at the wall.
Till has a point. But he doesn’t want to drink from him, if that is what he is implying…
The pure thought pains him.
„I suppose that’s true…“, is all he can really reply to, that and begins to feel like a burden again.
Before he found Till he always took donations from hospitals, so maybe he could do that again and doesn’t have to feed from Till.
That way Ivan won’t feel as guilty anymore too.
„You know I can also take hospital donations again..“, Ivan then tells him, knowing fully well that donations are hard to get when you don’t „need“ them.
He catches Till shake his head lightly in the corner of his eye.
„I mean you’re my responsibility now..“, he heard the other say and it makes him halt in his movements.
Does this mean what he thinks it does..?
„Y-you can’t be serious about that…“, Ivan tries to brush it off and looks down onto the ground again, to avoid eye contact.
That’s when Till puts his hand over Ivan’s and squeezes it a bit.
„It’s my way of saying thank you… I haven’t had this much fun in a long time.“, the human suddenly tells him and Ivan could swear that if he had a heart, it would be beating now.
What for…? He basically just ignored all of Till’s boundaries to live with him and kept this from him, the whole time…
But… If Till says so. It might be ok… Right?
„I should be the one thanking you… For your warmth, kindness and compassion..“, he answers him, turning to Till now to cup his cheek and give him a genuine smile.
Ivan watches Till‘s eyes widening, his cheeks turning pink and how he quickly turns away his head.
„D-don’t just do that. I don’t even know your name…“, he mumbles, which causes Ivan to chuckle lightly.
„It’s Ivan.“
~
Their routine after the reveal basically stays the same, only that Till talks to him more now and had begun to feed Ivan directly from his neck.
At first the thought really scared Till, since vampire bites always look so painful in movies, but with Ivan there is only a small pressure..
It also doesn’t take long to feed him, especially in his bat form and he also doesn’t feel bad after feeding him either!
Who would‘ve known that his little bat was a vampire in disguise all along…
Well some of its behaviour was strangely human since the beginning and maybe that should have given it away…
They also have grown closer together and Till stays up extra long to chat with Ivan in his humanish form, which is really nice.
Though the other does have a loose tongue sometimes and often teases Till about different things.
But they always resolve their fights quickly in the end.
Sometimes when he has a late shift, the other will prepare something to eat for him and they will watch a movie together.
They did this before when he only knew Ivan as a bat, but it feels different like this…
Everytime he leans against him the other won’t pull away and even pulls him closer by putting an arm around him…
And then this one time he woke up to Ivan staring at his face, who then quickly excused himself and left the couch.
It always feels like they passed some borders already…
Like Till just can‘t describe their relationship at all. Are they friends..? No, they are definitely more than that already… But he barely knows him enough to love him right..?
Well he has been feeding bat Ivan for quite some time…
In his vampire form, he almost acts the same way. Clingy, teasing, weirdly adorable and compassionate…
Hah he is just so confused…
Does Ivan feel the same way…? He pretty much stalked him before they even really knew each other and always makes sure that he is safe.
Even though that’s not really necessary..
His eyes wander over to Ivan now, who is preparing food in the kitchen and he sneaks up behind him.
He still doesn’t question why the vampire knows how to cook, when he can’t eat human food… Did he learn that just for him…?
Without thinking much about it, he wraps his arms around him and leans his head against his back, taking deep breaths.
He can feel Ivan stopping in his tracks and wait for him to do something.
Till only presses a light kiss to the back of his neck and feels Ivan’s skin shiver beneath his lips.
Should he say it out loud…?
He has never been really good with his words after all…
For another while they just stay silent, the food bowling on the stove and the sound of his own heart overturning everything.
His cheeks feel incredibly warm and he can feel himself shaking.
„You know I have a feeling that we belong together like this…“, he whispers to Ivan, feeling the other move his head to nod and closes his eyes.
„What I mean to say is…I love you! I think. Even if it doesn’t really make sense I know..“, Till then tries to confess his feelings to Ivan and his heart rate picks up even more.
The vampire is silent for another moment, not saying anything and doesn’t move.
„Please say something..“, he then begs, not being able to take this silence between them…
Then he feels the vampire moving and suddenly finds himself in a tight hug. His eyes widen and his breath stops for a moment.
„Me too..“, Ivan begins „From the moment I first laid eyes on you actually… You’re so full of life and so.. Well human.. No actually… You’re the kindest and most compassionate human I ever met…“, he ends his confession and tightens his arms around Till.
They stay like this for a while and Till eventually freed himself a little from the hug and presses a short kiss to Ivan’s lips.
The vampire blinks slowly at that, then pulls him closer for another kiss and deepens it this time, by sneaking his tongue into his mouth.
Till tilts his head a little, to trace his tongue against Ivan’s and explore his full mouth. When it comes against his fangs, he curiously moves it around one and then proceeds to battle against the vampire‘s tongue.
After a while Ivan lets him gasp for air and gently cups his right cheek with his hand.
They didn’t need to say anything to each other, there is just a mutual understanding that only they have.
