Chapter Text
Kyotani had no idea why he had listened to his sister and went to the bakery she recommended
Then again, she probably wouldn't have shut up about it if he didn't go
So, currently he was walking through the streets following the directions of his phone
"What kind of bakery doesn't have a name" he muttered
There weren't many people on the street that day which made him a bit more comfortable
He'd unfortunately forgotten to bring his earpods which was just adding to the fire
Sure he was grumpy most mornings but this was entirely different
He just had to get to the bakery, order something, and get out. Easy enough
Well not exactly since he'd passed the place two minutes ago and was too pissed to realize it
It wasn't until his phone told him to turn around that he'd realized the zoning out had added more time to his unnecessary trip
He mumbled a couple curses under his breath before finally stepping inside
Ot smelled of freshly baked bread like any average bakery
But it didn't feel like any average bakery
Kyotani could hear a song being played through the speakers, he'd heard it before but couldn't remember the name
No one else seemed to be present but humming could be heard from the kitchen
He stood there for a couple seconds before seeing a head of hazelnut hair peek from the kitchen. Wide brown eyes stared at him from behind the doorframe, until the person came fully into sight
"Hi, uhm… We're closed" the man said wiping his hands on his jeans
Kyotani raised an eyebrow and looked behind at the door
"Your sign says you're open" he said
The baker looked behind him and saw the flipped over sign
"Ah, I must've forgotten to flip the sign when I came in here this morning. Sorry about that" he muttered scratching his neck
Kyotani stared at the guy as he quickly rushed over outside to flip the sign
"Why are you in here baking with your shop fully operational when you're supposed to be closed?" He asked
The guy looked up from the paper ge was writing on and stared at Kyotani looking like he was thinking, then he looked back down at the paper and continued to write
"Well, it's currently the season where I get a ton of orders, but they came at me without warning this year so I had to start baking before scheduled time"
Kentaro peeked at the kitchen and saw no one else there
Could he possibly be the only one there?
"Are you the only employee?" He asked
The baker nodded
"Yup, this whole place is mine. Always ran it independently"
Kyotani realized that he'd gotten completely comfortable with a stranger. With the entire building, in fact
He took a step back from the counter
"Sorry, I should probably leave" he muttered already halfway through turning around
"Oh, its fine! It was my mistake, you might as well make an order"
Kyotani blinked
"Alright uhm… Just an apple pie then, please."
the baker smiled
"Alright that shouldn't take long"
He disappeared into the kitchen almost immediately
Kyotani took the opportunity to look at the bakery
He could see why Akari liked it so much
It seriously felt like a home
It was stupid, but true
And he felt a strange sense of comfort when he noticed the pride flag hung up in one of the walls
He might've not been openly queer but he did appreciate representation out in the wild
Then his thoughts were interrupted by the brunette rushing back out of the kitchen
"Here ya go, it'll be $28"
Kyoyani looked at the guy and cocked his head
"Are you an ally or…?" He said pointing at the flag
The baker looked at the wall and instinctively recoiled, taking a step back as if he was scared
"Why?" He asked
Kentaro realized how it must've rubbed off and immediately tried to correct it
"Oh, shit, sorry. I'm not judging or anything just wondering"
The guy visibly relaxed
"I'm bisexual" he muttered obviously uncomfortable with the situation
Kyotani mentally kicked himself for making such a nice person uncomfortable
He quickly grabbed the pie box and left the money "alright thanks, I am so sorry" he mumbled and ran out
He facepalmed himself as he walked away, the one time he tried to be sociable and he failed miserably
When he got home he set the pie on the table and went on a hunt for his sister
"Akari?" He yelled
"What?" His sister's voice echoed from the kitchen
Kentaro rolled his eyes and walked in to her watching a movie
"I went to the bakery you said " he told her
Akari immediately sat up, grinning
"And how was it? Isn't the baker like the nicest person ever?" She said
Kyotani stared at her, cringing at the events from earlier
His sister noticed and furrowed her eyebrows
"Uhm, Kentaro?" She asked
Kyotani blinked
"Huh?"
Akari raised an eyebrow and sat back down
"I asked if the baker was nice"
Kyotani nodded,brushing her off
The baker really did seem like a nice guy
Speaking of, he felt he should at least know his name since he upset him
So as uninterested as he could, he asked his sister
"Hey, what's his name?"
There was a couple seconds of silence before Akari responded
"Uh… Yahaba Shigeru, why?"
Kyotani nodded
"Ah, right. Well, I'm working on a painting so… I should go." He muttered
The second he reached the stairs he started into a sprint
"Hey! Don't you have practice tomorrow? Remember to set your alarm!"
No answer

Yahaba stared at the door at the blonde had just ran out of
He wondered if he'd insulted him in a way or just made him uncomfortable with the sudden fact
He'd wondered many times if he should take the pride flag down
He was used to people insulting him over being bisexual or telling him it wasn't right
Not that he cared much
Homophobia wasn't uncommon, he'd been a victim of it quite a lot
Usually he'd just tell people he'd "consider it" obviously he never did. If they were being too difficult he either told them to get out, or called Watari (he was basically his security guard)
But no one really asked if he was just an ally
It was like everyone automatically assumed that any representation meant you were a part of it
Yahaba shook his head and went into the kitchen with 20 more orders to complete
Being the only person that worked there did have its cons but he could handle it
He'd been handling it for five years after all
