Summary
Coach gives Cliff Marleau the wrong phone number while asking him to welcome Boston’s newest rookie. Shane Hollander tells Cliff exactly who he is. Cliff assumes the rookie has committed very thoroughly to a joke.
Shane should end the conversation. Instead, Cliff begins sending practical advice, harmless team stories, and increasingly inexplicable observations about his roommate, Ilya Rozanov, who watches Shane’s games, notices when he is tired, recognises his real laugh, has detailed opinions about his clothes and hair, and objects whenever anyone else criticises him incorrectly.
Everyone knows Ilya loves women. Everyone knows he and Shane are rivals. So whenever Ilya’s behaviour looks suspiciously like a crush, there is always a reasonable explanation.
Fortunately, Cliff knows better.
Shane is beginning to wish he didn’t.

Strange morals here.
Cliff could have asked Ilya to verify Shane's number to check at any time, yet he kept over sharing deep emotional truths of Ilya's to a stranger and then he claims to be angry at Shane after its revealed. What Shane did was sketchy, but Cliff's behavior is much worse objectively yet he claims the moral high ground. Shane did attempt to call him early on to correct it and never lied about his identity.
Just very strange that Cliff could claim to be mad at Shane when I think he only has himself to blame.
Ilya being mad at both is fair, but Cliff being mad at Shane feels like he just isn't being honest with himself about how this was all down to his choices to cross boundaries, and ignore what he's being told.
