Summary
These are the final days of Yoojin's life, no doubt, and they are unusually quiet and beautiful.
The night sky is pitch dark, illuminated only by the crescent moon, twinkling stars, and dozens of torches lit by real fire and mana crystals alike. They lend a warm glow to the gardens beneath his balcony where, despite the snow-covered terrain that marks the rest of Arqah's landscape, the traces of winter are minimal and flora flourishes. Guards whisper to one other, but aside from that and the faint breeze ruffling through the flora, the night is shockingly quiet, despite reports pointing to the Conqueror's impending arrival.
It is past midnight and he should try to sleep, even if he suspects it will escape him these final few nights.
He shrugs off his outer robes, unfastens his jewelry, and is about to call it a night when an odd sound catches his attention.
Something— no, someone is behind him.

He swallows. It is deafening, against the night.
