Summary
Shane opened the messages again when he was in bed. It was stupid and neither focusing on hockey, nor working towards bringing a girl home at some point, but he sent: 'Merry Christmas' to Rozanov before turning off his phone for the night.
When Shane turned his phone back on the next morning, Rozanov's 'Merry Christmas, Jane' was waiting for him. Sent only a few minutes after Shane's message.
Or: Five times Ilya and Shane don't spend special occasions together and one time they do.

Nice and very Shane/Ilya-coded. I could absolutely see them thinking these things while they’re apart. Not devastating, just a really nice read with believable character feelings.
