Chapter 1: Dinner (I slept)

Chapter Text

Alright let's do this one last time.

My name is Stephanie Brown I was bitten by a radio-active spider, and for a whole one year I've been the one and only Spider-Girl (do not forget the hyphen) .

And you know the rest.

I got my father to jail. Broke up with my boyfriend...then helped him confess to his crush-and-now-also-new-boyfriend.

Fought more gotham villains and then also a few more. Partnered with Bruce Wayne.

Got a sick costume from Bruce Wayne. I don't know, I don't really care about Bruce Wayne to be honest

Now you're probably wondering: what's next for gotham's only super-hero? I guess we're about to find out.

Stephanie's sleep was disturbed by the sound of her ring tone. Lazily she reached out her hand and grabbed the phone which seemed to get louder and louder with each buzz.

"What's up Timothy?" she asked. There was no need to check if it was him since he's the only one of her friends that calls her number instead of using Instagram or any other type of social media like a normal person.

"Hi, just checking if you are on your way cuase i'm already waiting."

Steph jumped at these words like she was just hit with a wave of electricity. She opened her mouth like she was ready to say something, but nothing came out of her mouth

"uhhh yeah sure. I'm heading to the bus right now. But you know just in case: we're meeting at..."

Even tho she couldn't see him, the sigh she heard from her bestfriend's mouth made her imagine Timothy lowering his head and rubbing his forehead In a "ofcourse she forgot" way

"At the Wayne Mannor. Because uhh I don't know... You were suppousted to discuss th Spider-Girl merchandise!"

"Right" Stephanie started looking around her room, her eyes switching between the pile of clothes on the floor and the closet where she was hiding her spider-costume. "And I should wear my..."

"A dress, a suit. I don't know Stephanie not your spider-costume! His children are going to be there!"

"yeah. Okay. Got it. I'll swing there to you in about 20 minutes."

"TWEN-"

with that Stephanie hung up and jumped over to the pile of clothes on the ground looking for something that doesn't smell like sweat and is suitable for meeting a multi billionaire. Finally she found a long silk dark purple dress she wore to prom in sophomore year. She brought it to her nose and smelled to check if it didn't pick up the sweat from other clothes and after deciding it's not smelly she started to put it on.

The dress didn't fit the same way it did a year ago before the spider bit her. It was a little bit tight in the chest and the straps were digging into her skin, but there was no other choice so Steph decided she'll stretch it out while swinging over to the manor.

She decided not to waste time on brushing her hair since they're gonna get messy while swinging on the spider-webs anyway. She quickly grabbed her sneakers, because heels might fall off in the air, and jumped out of the window shooting her webs out towards the nearest building.

The air in Gotham was dirty enough to not see anything higher than about 10 meters so she didn't have to worry about somone catching a mysterious blond haired girl appearing to swing on spiderweb like our beloved friendly neighborhood Spider-Girl.

After a surprisingly short period of time she landed in front of the Wayne manor causing her best friend to flinch.

"oh my gosh I told you to not just jump in front of me like that! You scared the shit out of me!"

"whatever white boy." Steph giggles. "let's get this over with"

Timothy rang the doorbell, the big Gate opened automatically and now the two of them had to walk a weirdly long distance to the front door.

"Hey, do you think his kids know? That I'm spider-girl?"

"what do you mean?"

"well you said the kids were gonna be here, but we're suppousted to discuss the spider-wayne partnership."

"I... have no idea actually" he turned his head and gave a warm smile towards his friend. "But I guess we are about to find out."

He finished as they approached the front door, and before any of them got the chance to knock, a tall old man already opened them. Later they found out apparently Mr. Wayne has a butler. Tim was not very much surprised since he came from rich, but for Stephanie it was crazy to think about the fact that it's the same city that she and so many other poor teenagers who's parents have to live from paycheck to paycheck lives in. If it was any other billionaire she would be mad. But also she knew that Bruce Wayne somehow still was a human despite his fortune.

Alfred, the Butler guided them to the dining room where everyone and two empty chairs were already waiting for them. Stephanie and Tim decided to not start the conversation with the topic of spider-girl since they didn't know how much did the children of the filantropist knew about Stephanie's identity, but it seemed nobody except for Mr. Wayne himself knew the reason for the whole Dinner was to talk about the partnership. He and his oldest son - Dick started a small talk while everyone was waiting for the food. Quickly, one of the sons - Duke joined the conversation, but the rest just sat quietly.

A few minutes later, the food came in and everyone went quiet just focusing on eating the chicken. Steph and Timothy occasionally exchanged confused glances, tho Steph's eyes were more annoyed with the fact that she had to drag her butt to some lame dinner when she could still be in her bed, dreaming.

"So" Bruce started "i actually had a proposition for you two. Would you agree on staying here, in the manor, for the school year and get a scholarship to gotham academy?"

Stephanie almost choked on the mashed potatoes, spitting some of them back on the plate and gaining a quiet "ew" from the little version of Bruce Wayne sitting across from her. "come again?" she asked, but instead of looking at Mr. Wayne, she looked at her friend who was just as shocked as her.

"You are both really good students and I think you have a bright future ahead of you. So I decided to give you this proposition which ofcourse you can refuse" he smiled casually

Steph looked at her firend again making sure he was okay with her speaking for both of them and then turned to Bruce again.

"Well, Mr. Wayne this is... Incredible! Is that why we were invited here?.." she narrowed her eyes looking for maybe a some gesture that would tell her "spider-stuff later" but ended up finding nothing except a stain of red wine that Dick who sits next to his dad Accidently spilled while violently gesturing and telling a story from a trip to mountains with his friends.

"Absolutely yes" Wayne comfired, answering to the question Steph asked. "So, do you agree?"

"Well..." she smiled and once again looked at her friend to find him quickly nod his head in agreement "Yes! That would be a pleasure for us!"

"Perfect. " this time he turned to his children. "Would you mind leaving the three of us alone so I can get their parents contact?"

Jason and Damian both rolled their eyes, but left the room with the rest of their siblings. When Mr. Wayne was sure they were all in their rooms, he turned to Tim and Steph again.

"Okay, here is the real deal." he started "you will live here under my roof, with permition from both of your barents ofcourse. We will take care of your education, but at the same time, help you with saving the city." He scanned the children for questions and when he decided that he's been silent for long enough to know they don't feel the need to ask anything just now, he continued.

"Stephanie, I've seen you in action and I see that you are a great fighter, a phenomenal one even, but you need to learn tactics. Timothy, I've seen your grades and achievements and I think you have the ability to help Stephanie keep the city safe, from the comfort of the manor."

"like... The guy in the chair?" he asked

"I suppose." Bruce answered. "Well this is very important and I need to tell both of you more about this whole case, but duty calls. Alfred will walk you to the door and we'll see eachother in a week at 2pm right here."

Both Stephanie and Tim were way to shocked to act excited so they quietly walked with the Butler. When the door closed behind them, they robitically started walking towards the gate without talking. Only once did Stephanie break the silence with a question.

"why did we have dinner at like 9 in the morning anyway?"

"it's 7pm Steph."

"Oh"

"..."

"you slept 'til evening?"
