Work Text:
EEvery morning for the last six weeks Will’s found a note on his pillow.
He smiles when he sees the folded paper, picking it up slowly, and unveils a quote.
‘I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul.’
The quote could be from anywhere: poetry, novels, or sometimes even their past.
Today is Pablo Neruda.
Will sighs, folds it up, and puts the note with the others in the jar at the back of his closet.
Hannibal doesn’t know he’s kept every single one.
It's corny, he knows but each day feels like it could all end in the blink of an eye and knowing there's a record somewhere even something as innocent as this, makes him feel better.
Will rushes from their room then, finding Hannibal at the stove, and slowly walks over as Cephy barks hugging him from behind.
"Good morning, Darlin'," he whispers, kissing his neck.
Hannibal shivers. "Good morning, Mylimasis. I'm making..."
Will kisses them then, unable to help himself, and Hannibal deepens the touch, biting his lip as they're suddenly against the counter.
He digs nails into the back of Hannibal's neck, marks he never lets fade, and Hannibal pulls away panting for breath.
"I see today's words lit a fire."
Will grins, tears stinging his eyes. "Neruda," he whispers, touching his neck softly now, soothing as Hannibal leans into his hand, "You know I ache for the classics."
Hannibal smiles. "Yes, I know."
Will smells a slight burn and says, "The food is burning," and Hannibal hurries as he laughs, kissing his cheek as he passes by then letting the dog out to see their yard.
They've spent more than a decade here but still every day feels like it could be their last.
Yet every second feels like it lasts forever sometimes.
Will smells the burnt breakfast then as he hears the click of Hannibal’s tongue to the dog, whispering to her before Will turns to look at them both.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy.”
Hannibal looks up, his smug smile as he crosses the gap between them endearing more with each passing day, and reaches out to touch Will’s cheek.
“Until tomorrow."
He grins, pulling him in by the neck, and kissing him softly as tears fill his eyes. "Until tomorrow."
