Chapter Text

In that brown house, the one lush and rich.
On the cold ice, that large fishbowl. The
track or the bed or the seats I find myself in.

I keep a bruise or many, purple and yellow or green.
I get them more often now, as I grow. I think you do, too.

And I do grow. I gain the strength, the stripes to show for it.
But there are thorns in my dinner that
weren’t there before.

So I pick. So I sort through it. So I take the bites or the act of it and it’s just funny, right?
It’s funny. To you, to him, to me.

Or maybe not me.

Maybe it’s not very funny at all.

Notes:

i kept going back and forth about posting these works and if i wanted to complete them or not. the thing with poetry, however, is that it never really feels completed. i also want to get better about putting something out even if it's not perfect or exactly what other people might be looking for or otherwise "into," especially when it comes to poetry. i like to write, and i miss it, so i'll do it. and in the meantime i can share it so at least my beautiful friends can read it if they'd like. and if not then at least i can look back on it and see where i've improved, what i've lost or gained along the way.

most importantly, this is inspired by one of my favorite collections that i've referenced in another fic, and the reason i started this in the first place: THE COLLECTED POEMS OF TIM RIGGINS by nico alvarado
