Work Text:
When Canari requested Taunie to meet with her outside of Café Nouveau, she was incredibly confused. In the year since the events with Ange and the VFA, Taunie reckoned the 2 of them have spoken maybe 3 times, and all of these instances involved Harmony. Now here the streamer was, requesting to meet with her personally, and alone at that. Needless to say, she was thoroughly confused. But, the café was on her way back from work, so it wasn't exactly impossible for her to get there. So, she agreed to meet with Canari at Café Nouveau after work.
When she got there, she found Canari waiting for her. But she wasn't alone. A fat man dressed in blue and yellow was standing over her, talking. At first, Taunie thought it was a pleasant conversation with a fan, but when she got closer, she realised that that was not the case. Canari was very obviously uncomfortable with him being there. Taunie picked up the pace to reach her. As she did, she managed to catch some of the fat man's words. "...so really, it only makes sense that you should go out with me!"
"And it only makes sense that you're either deaf or a moron, because I have said no multiple times!" Canari snapped. "Besides, how many times must I say it, I'm already seeing someone!"
"But whoever he is can't possibly love you as much as I do!" the fat guy replied. "Let me meet this guy! I'll prove to you that I am a much more worthy boyfriend than he ever was!"
"Actually, I think you'll find that..." she began, but Taunie stepped forward. Getting a good look at this guy, she figured that he would not be too pleased to know that she was dating a girl.
"Is there a problem here?" she asked as she sat down across from Canari.
The man glared at her. "Actually, yes there is!" he said. "You're interrupting us! Canari and I were in the middle of talking, so if you could just...!"
Canari shot to her feet at that. "Go away!" she shouted at him. "No one speaks to one of my friends like that and gets to continue talking to me! So, leave us alone right now or I will start screaming!" The fat guy got her meaning pretty quickly and scarpered. Canari seethed a bit, before sitting down again. "Sorry about that," she said as she did.
Taunie shook her head. "No, no, don't apologise!" she replied. "That was really cool. I daresay that if Gwynn saw that, she would've melted." Canari went a bit pink at this, which made Taunie laugh. But, as much as she wanted to continue teasing this woman, she also really wanted to get home and see her girlfriend again. So, she moved the conversation along. "So, what did you want to talk to me about?" she asked her.
Canari went a bit pinker. "Can't a girl ask to meet a friend for some coffee?" she asked.
"Not when this is the 1st time you've done this in the year we have known each other," Taunie replied. "And especially when it's just me you requested to meet. So, what can I do for you?"
Canari sighed. "I wanted to ask you some questions about that Infinite Royale you started," she explained. "Specifically, what you get if you win it."
Taunie looked at her curiously. "What do you mean by win it?" she asked. "You can't win it. That's the whole point. It goes on and on and on. There are no ranks. You just battle people for however long you want, then head into Quasartico to claim a small reward for every battle you won. The more you win, the better the reward."
That last point seemed to pique Canari's interest. "And, just how good can these rewards get?" she asked.
Taunie shrugged. "Well, I suppose they do peak eventually," she admitted as she took a sip from the coffee that Griselle brought her. "But that's mostly with like, XP Candies, or maybe a Mega Stone or two, but that's really it."
Canari looked disappointed. "So, winning enough matches won't allow me to request a wish granted I suppose?" she asked.
Taunie shook her head. "If I did that everytime someone won enough battles in the Infinite Royale, Quasartico Inc. would run out of money."
Canari sighed. "That's fair enough I suppose," she agreed. "Sorry to have bothered you." Then, she stood up to leave.
But before she could, Taunie grabbed her arm. "Hang on a minute," she said. "What do you want? Depending on what it is, I might be able to pull a few strings."
Canari sat down again. "Really?" she asked.
Taunie nodded. "Yes really," she replied. "If it wasn't for you and your streams, I would've lost Harmony forever. So spill, what were you hoping for?"
Canari sighed. "It's stupid," she said.
"What, was it for your streaming?" Taunie asked.
"No," Canari admitted. "It was for something else." She looked around to make sure no one was eavesdropping, before saying, "I wanted to see if I could get my wish for the Z-A Royale granted, but I can't, since the Infinite Royale doesn't let me."
"Well, what was that wish?" she asked. "Depending on what it is, I can grant it."
Canari blushed again, and looked like she wanted to say it was stupid and run off again. But, she remained where she was. "I wanted to request use of the Town Hall for a day," she admitted.
"Taunie looked at her quizzically. "Why?" she asked. "So you can use it for one of your Quiz Whizzes?"
"I told you, it wasn't for my streaming!" she shouted. "It's for something else. Something much more personal." Then, she reached into her pocket, and pulled out a small black box, before placing it on the table.
Taunie gasped when she recognised it. "Is that...?" she asked.
Canari nodded bashfully. "I want to propose to G-Volt," she said. "And the Town Hall is one of her favourite places to go. So, I was hoping to use my wish to rent it for the day, propose to her, then use it as a wedding venue."
Taunie squealed with delight and leaned over the table to hug Canari. "Oh my Arceus that is adorable!" she said eagerly, before letting her go. "I'll see what I can do!"
Canari looked at her with surprise. "You mean it?!" she asked.
Taunie nodded. "Sure, just as long as Team MZ gets an invite, I will try to get that rented out for you," she said.
Canari removed her mask to give her a proper smile. "Thank you," she said. "Thank you so much! I owe you big time."
Taunie waved her off. "I'd call us even," she said. "After all, like I said, if it wasn't for you, Harmony wouldn't be here with us right now." She drained her mug at this and checked the time. "Speaking of, I have to get back to her now. It's been a few days since I've been able to see her at night, if you catch my drift."
Canari nodded with a laugh. "Go and have fun," she said. "And thanks again!" Then, she stood up. Step 1, get the venue was completed. Now, for the rest of her plans.
After getting Ivor's blessing, Canari set up a romantic date in Racine Construction. She knew Gwynn, and she knew that she would feel pressured to say yes if she did it in public. So, she decided to keep it private. In fact, she even had Tarragon send all of his employees home early, just to make absolutely certain that no one would be here to put pressure on her G-Volt. She wanted this answer to be from the heart. So, she ordered Gwynn's favourite food for dinner, then dressed herself in that belly dancer dress she wore during Jacinthe's Super-Tournoi de Jacinthe. The one that had Gwynn staring at her for the entire event, which led to some pretty fun times when they left the tournament at the end.
Soon enough, the place was to her satisfaction. Now, all she needed was her beloved G-Volt, and things would be perfect. And, soon enough, Gwynn arrived. "Hey Canari!" she called as she entered the site. "It's nice... to... see... you... again." She trailed off as she got a look at Canari, dressed in that dress she wore during Jacinthe's tournament. And on top of that, she wasn't wearing her mask, and she wore her hair down. The sight of her like this caused Gwynn's brain to fry.
Canari giggled at the sight of her stupefied girlfriend. "You like?" she asked, walking slowly towards her, causing her hips to wiggle a bit as she did. She could see Gwynn visibly bluescreen at this, and all she could do was nod. Canari giggled again, and took her hand. "Well, then, come with me," she said. "I have dinner ready in the kitchen."
The second she saw takeaway from her favourite restaurant in Lumiose, Gwynn was suspicious. When combined with the way Canari was dressed, Gwynn started to internally panic, believing she forgot an important anniversary. Canari meanwhile, for all her calmness on the outside, she was internally sweating bullets. "Why is she looking at me like that?" she internally asked herself. "Oh Arceus has she figured it out!? Does she not want this?! Oh fuck! OH fuck! OH FUCK!"
On the outside however, she remained calm. "What's up?" she asked. "Do you not like it?"
Gwynn looked up at her, then shook her head. "No, no! I love it!" she said quickly. "I'm just surprised, that's all. This is all really nice. Almost too nice. Is there an anniversary I'm forgetting?"
Relieved that that's all it was, Canari audibly sighed. "No, that's not it. Can't a gal tried her girl to a lovely evening once in a while?"
Gwynn looked around at the kitchen again, then back at her gorgeous girlfriend. Then, she gave a small smile. "I suppose not," she admitted, before sitting down at the table. Canari smiled, then sat down at the opposite end. They ate together happily, before Canari migrated to sitting beside Gwynn, which led to Gwynn migrating to sitting on her lap as they passionately made out. Throughout all of that however, Canari was a nervous wreck. Any moment now, she was about to ask Gwynn a question that would either make her the happiest woman she knew, or the saddest. She was sweating like crazy, and had to breathe extra hard through her nose to keep her breathing in check.
Eventually, Gwynn noticed. She stopped kissing Canari and pushed her away a bit. "Are you alright?" she asked.
"Y-Yeah," Canari stammered. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Gwynn looked at her. "Because you seem very nervous," she replied. "And that's saying something coming from me."
Canari started visibly sweating at this. "I-I'm not nervous!" she tried to argue, but her voice fell flat.
Gwynn looked at her sceptically. "You're stammering," she pointed out. "You never stammer." Gwynn leaned away from Canari, but remained straddling her. "So tell me, what's got you so nervous?"
Canari took a deep breath. "Alright, I'll tell you," she replied. "But I need you to get off me first." Now it was Gwynn's turn to get nervous. She diligently got off Canari's lap and stood before her as Canari got to her feet as well. She looked and felt more nervous than she ever had in her life. "The truth is, there is a reason why I bought all of this, and why I dressed like this," she said. "I have something very important to ask."
Gwynn nodded encouragingly. "You can ask me anything," she replied.
Canari took a breath. "Well, do you remember how I promised I'd reveal what my wish for winning the Z-A Royale, and then I never did?" she asked. Gwynn nodded again, feeling a bit eager now. "Well, the truth is, I wanted to rent out the Town Hall for a day. A day that was convenient for you."
Gwynn looked at her quizzically. "Why?" she asked. "Was this for one of your Quiz Whizzes?"
Canari sighed. "You aren't the first person to ask me that," she admitted. "But no, it's for something else. Something a lot more personal." Canari stuck her hand in the pocket of her dress and fiddled with the small black box. "I remember you saying it was one of your favourite places to go in Lumiose, right?" Gwynn stared at her. She had only mentioned that in passing once. How had Canari remembered. She nodded, unsure where this was going. "That's good," Canari replied. "I was worried I messed up. But, I have a very good reason for wanting to rent it. As there's something very important I wanted to ask you." With that, she pulled the box out from her pocket, and got down on one knee. "Gwynn, will you make me the happiest woman alive, and marry me?"
Gwynn's jaw dropped to the floor. She started tearing up as her hands flew to her mouth. "Oh my Arceus," she said, her voice choking with happiness. "Yes! Absolutely! 1000 times yes! Oh my Arceus!" Canari smiled at this and slipped the ring on her finger. Then, the 2 of them hugged each other tightly, before fiercely making out once more. As they did, Canari sent a text to Taunie, letting her know to save the Town Hall for her.
"That's great! Taunie replied. "Congratulations! I'll tell the others!"
Gwynn broke the kiss and looked Canari dead in the eyes. "Some of your fans are going to be so mad!" she said with a little laugh.
Canari laughed as well. "Let them be," she replied. "If they don't accept us, then they can all get fucked! They aren't real fans anyway!" Canari pulled Gwynn in for another kiss. "I love you," she said between kisses.
"I love you too!" Gwynn replied, the happiest she had ever been.
