Jamie spun in his office chair board out of his mind. His days work had been finished hours ago and now he was just waiting for something to happen anything.
The door opened. His boss stepped in not looking at him focused on the paper in her hands.
"Jamie, ive got an assignment for you. You know the green beetles?"
Jamie nearly fell out of his chair, the green beetles? His FAVORITE hockey team since collage?!
"Of course I know the green beetles" he said keeping his excitement in as best as he can
"Good. Theyre skyrocketing right now. Best team in the league" she glanced up at him for a second seeing his glasses slightly tilted off his face before rolling her eyes
"I want you covering one of their players."
Jamie sat up straighter
"Which player?"
"The goalie. Ryder puck."
Jamie's heart skipped a beat he forgot how to breath.
He sat there as if waiting for the words to load
"The goalie," He said slowly "Ryder puck?" His boss nodded before leaveing.
Jamie just stood there, slightly in disbelief slightly in embarrassment slightly in excitement but mostly dread.
Jamie knew that name, Ryder puck,
Everyone knew the name,
But Jamie knew it differently.
Because it wasn't just scores or highlights or headlines for him. It was late nights in his collage dorm room half asleep watching reruns of a random 22 year old hockey player. And for some reason it was the highlight of his day. It was obsession.
Jamie sat back in his chair takeing his glasses off and rubbing his face.
"No fucking way." He muttered to himself
