Work Text:

They can't keep running forever. They were in too deep, entangled in feelings they couldn't ignore. This was not mere admiration; it was something far more profound.

They were in love, yet uncertain how to confess. What should they do? How could they possibly address this awakening? Should they reveal the truth, risking everything, or continue burying their feelings deep within? If they ever confessed one day, would he be angry or hurt? How would that moment unfold? To him, they were simply friends, but they longed for something more—more than friendship, more than just stolen glances and quiet hope. They could no longer hide their feelings. The secret glances they sent his way, the subtle smiles—did he even realize? Probably not, especially considering the many letters exchanged between them. They knew how they felt, yet courage eluded them to confess their love openly. They couldn't afford to wait for him to understand on his own; honesty was imperative.

Late into the night, they poured hours into composing a love poem for Azure, finally finishing it at dawn. They hoped the poem conveyed their true feelings, wishing he would understand what they struggled to express. With hurried hands, they grabbed Lily, their loyal owl, and carefully tied the letter to her leg before releasing her eastward. They watched eagerly as she took flight, anticipation fluttering in their chest.

Azure was tending his garden when Lily arrived. They felt a warm smile form as the owl landed gracefully on their shoulder. Seeing the letter, they chuckled softly. “Is this for me? Thank you for bringing it,” they said, untying the note from her leg. They opened it and began to read.

“Words cannot describe how much I adore you and your kind nature.

It's hard for me to look into your eyes without shying away.

You remind me of the sun—warm, inviting, and capable of warming even the coldest days.

Whenever I think of you, my troubles seem to wash away.

But I become nervous and breathless when near you, my heart pounding uncontrollably.

I find it difficult to speak the truth I desperately want to tell.

I desire more than mere companionship from you.

I hope my love brings you immense happiness."

Sincerely yours, Two Time.

Azure was stunned by the poem. The depth of emotion woven into those words was almost too overwhelming to capture. Such a beautiful work of art! Yet, what puzzled them was the line about desiring more than friendship—weren’t they already friends? Perhaps they longed to be more than just friends… Ah, now it made sense—they were hoping to become his best friends, or maybe even more. Why hadn’t they expressed that before? He decided to ask them about it in his next letter, quickly beginning to write.

"My dear friend, I humbly thank you for this heartfelt poem. I truly appreciate your words and would be honored to accept your request to be best friends! I would also love to see more of your poetry—you have quite a gift."

He signed the letter, calling himself their best friend.

After reading the letter from Lily, their heart sank. Did he really think they only wanted to be best friends? Was that all he saw? Or did he simply prefer friendship? They shook their head rapidly, determined to confront him and clear up the misunderstanding. Deciding to wait until tomorrow, as their schedule was too full today, they resolved to make sure he knew how they truly felt—without any doubts or confusion.
