Work Text:
Tim is already cautious, he always has been. He is always alert and he always has his cop eyes on and his cop ears.
It’s why he is angry that he let his guard down on the beach and he put Lucy in danger. He’s angry that he couldn’t do a damn thing to keep her safe.
They were separated and put in different rooms. Tim was still on alert, he heard them talking and then Lucy screaming and it was like all the hair on his body was standing up.
He couldn’t do anything.
And he hated it.
Now that they were back home and getting back to their usual routine. Tim is still cautious and he’s still on alert. It’s probably from the trauma and the stress of being kidnapped but—
It’s more than usual, it’s more than before.
He hears a noise in the hallway and he freezes. He keeps his eye on the hallway until Lucy emerges. She has a dress on, one that highlights her curves. He licks his lips and makes his way to her.
“You look—” he trails off his hands going to her waist. She was his, she was all his. “Amazing.”
“Thank you.” She says standing on her toes to kiss him. She cups his face and he feels the metal of her ring which makes this night all the more real.
They were finally celebrating their engagement with their friends and family. Angela insisted. Genny insisted. And together they made it happen.
“Are you ready?” He asks. Lucy nods and gives him another kiss.
“I am.”
“I love you.“ He says and maybe this wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do but he was with Lucy and that all that matters to him.
“I love you too.” She replies. “I’m happy we are doing this.” Tim nods his head and gives him a kiss.
“Angela wouldn’t leave us alone if we said no.” He says. Lucy laughs and tugs on his hand.
This might be a good night after all.

Tim holds Lucy’s hand as they approach the bar. “Just remember all the attention will be on us.” Lucy says. She puts a hand on his arm. “Try to relax.” There’s a noise behind them and he jumps a little.
“Tim—”
But Tim is turning around and searching the area. But there’s no one there. He takes a step forward pulling Lucy with him.
“Do you feel like someone is watching us?” He whispers.
“No.” Lucy replies but she’s scanning the area too. “Come on let’s go inside.” She pushes open the door and takes a step inside. Tim does too and he relaxes a little. They were inside, surrounded by people.
Nothing would happen tonight. Nothing would happen.
***
Tim steps out into the alleyway, he’s sweating and feels like he’s going to tip over. It’s not from the alcohol or being in public.
He just feels like someone is watching him. Them. Maybe he’s paranoid.
“Tim?” The door opens and Lucy steps out. Her cheeks are flushed and her hair is a little bit more messy than from when they got here. But she looks beautiful. “Are you okay?”
“Just needed some air.” He says and she steps closer to him. “Are you having fun?”
“Yes but it’s better with you by my side.” She says softly. “I know this isn’t your favorite thing but I am glad you agreed to do it.”
“Of course,” Tim says and he thinks he would do anything for her. He proposed on the damn beach. He would move heaven and earth for her. “It was just a little loud.”
“I understand.”
“Do you—”
“You aren’t going anywhere.” A voice says and Tim freezes. Lucy does too and he reaches out and pulls her in. He turns around and sees Chris Sanford. And right next to him is Ashley McGrady.
“What are you two doing here?” Lucy asks. “And why are you both here?”
“You two never cared about us,” Chris says. “You two were always about each other and we were good to you.”
Tim looks at them in disbelief. Chris was a selfish bastard and Ashley was so self absorbed he’s surprised she even remembers him.
“You wanted me to be someone I wasn’t.” Tim says to Ashley but she just rolls her eyes.
“You were pressuring me into buying a house when I was clearly not interested.” Lucy says. “Or ready but you couldn’t see past your own self interest.”
Their words clearly have no impact on Chris or Ashley because they move forward. Tim sees the needle this time and is pushes Lucy behind him but she is faster. Ashley moves towards her but Lucy grabs her and twists her arm behind her back. The needle falls to the ground. Tim moves towards Chris and knocks the needle out of his hands. He knocks him to the ground with a kick to the legs.
“You both are stupid.” Lucy says. “What did you think you would get out of this? Money? Did you think it would tear us apart and we would get back with you two?”
“We just wanted to get even with you.” Chris says. He’s still on the ground and he looks like he wants to jump up and attack them both.
Ashley is on her knees and Lucy has let go of her but she is standing above her like she is daring Ashley to move.
“Get even with us?” Lucy asks and there’s amusement in her voice. “What the hell does that mean?”
“It means you both moved on and left us in the dust.” Chris says. “We are tired of seeing you happy.” He jumps up but Tim shoves him down hard.
“Don’t you dare.” Lucy hisses at Ashley. “So you wanted to kidnap us because you both are miserable and you want everyone to be miserable too?”
We just—” Chris starts and then looks up when he sees Tim on the phone. “What are you doing?”
“Calling the police.” Tim says. “You will be taken into custody for attempted assault and kidnapping. And then you will want to stay very, very far away from us.”
Lucy smiles at him as he recites his badge number, their location and the situation. He hangs up but doesn’t move away from Chris.
“Maybe you should think twice before you try and kidnap a sergeant and the watch commander.” Lucy says.
“It happened once.” Ashley sneers. “You two aren’t that powerful.” Tim blinks at her, and of course their kidnapping was big news.
Of course their exes had read about it.
Of course.
But Tim wasn’t going to let his guard down again. He wasn’t going to let them be taken again.
(Especially by two idiots)
Tim hears the sirens in the distance and he can’t wait to get away from these two. Now he wants to go back in and celebrate.
The shops pull up and Lucy pulls Ashley up. Tim pulls Chris up roughly and then pushes him at the officer. The other officer takes Chris and Tim pulls on Lucy’s hand. He pulls her back into the bar and stops again.
“Do you feel better?” She asks. Tim nods but he looks distracted.
“Can you believe those idiots actually thought they could one up us?” Tim asks.
“They thought wrong.” Lucy says. She stands on her toes to kiss his cheek. “I wasn’t about to get kidnapped for the third time.”
Tim just shakes his head, and leads her back into the bar where their friends are waiting.
To celebrate them.
To celebrate their love.
And that is exactly what they need.
