Chapter Text
It was a fairly normal day at the firehouse, no unusual calls. Just the regular old kid stuck in a tree, kitchen fire, and someone choking on a tampon. Normal.
It had been unusually qui- peaceful, no fire alarms through breakfast, no midworkout calls. Just silent. That’s until Athena barged in.
Bobby was in the middle of making his world famous spaghetti sauce, when Athena had barged into the kitchen. She let out a groan clutching at her back, raising her arms she let out a yawn.
“Hey honey,” She finally said as she turned across the island to hug Bobby. “I need a favor.”. She said, pressing a kiss to Bobby's mouth.
He quickly glanced around the firehouse, the rest of the team was sat downstairs watching television. Letting a small gasp come from his mouth he turned to her.
“We’re in a firehouse!” He said, looking shocked.
“Oh my lord,” She sighed and brought her hand to head. “Not that kind of favor.”. Bobby’s face changed to relief.
“What kind of favor would you need then?” He asked.
“It’s kind of a longshot, but-”.
————————
“Ok, we’re up stairs now. What did you need Cap?” Hen let out a tired sigh, she turned her head backwards at the rowdy group behind her.
Behind her was Chimney, Ravi, and of course BuckEddie. The five were all pushing past each other. All too excited at the smell of the kitchen.
And another group, a less rowdy group came up behind them.
“Do we get to eat the food now.” Buck said looking past Bobby to the almost finished spaghetti, it was a mouth watering dish.
“Close your mouth, buddie.” Eddie said, nudging Buck in the shoulder while also looking past Bobby.
Bobby shook his head, “No, no one’s eating yet, it’s not finished.”.
“Then why’d you call us up.” Chimney asked while maneuvering his hand at where they all stood.
Bobby snuck a quick glance at Athena who was sitting next to the table, and already eating the spaghetti. Buck also looked in the direction, and made a jealous face. He nudged Eddie to look, but Eddie was frozen still.
Buck looked around behind him, they were also frozen still. He looked forward. Bobby was glaring at him. Buck gave an awkward smile and scooted away from Eddie.
Athena sat up bringing her plate with her, glancing at the group. She stared at each one of them giving them a fair look down. She started pointing.
“You, you…. You!” She pointed at three of the firefighters, “You three can go. And… You, you, you.” She pointed at some more. “You guys can go too.”.
Athena picked off some more of the group.
The people left up there were Eddie, Buck, and Hen. The three stood glancing at each other, what were they doing up there and why only them?
And Hen was the only one brave enough to question it, “So, why are we the only ones up here?”. A confused smile plastered onto her face.
“Yeah.” The two behind her chimed in sync. She rolled her eyes at the two, who were looking at each other like they struck gold.
“Sit.” Athena insisted, “I’ll explain.”. They all nodded sitting across from her.
“Okay, here's the deal.”
————————
“YOU WANT US TO WHAT?” Eddie gasped.
“Yeah what he said!” Buck stood, sharing Eddie’s expression.
Buck and Eddie were sat next to each other looking at 3 different files all of the same person, David Hovhannisyan. They’re eyes almost popping out of their head, Buck was flipping through the first file while Eddie was staring into Athena’s head.
“So from what you're saying,” Hen grabbed one of the files. “You want these two to pose as a couple to get to know the suspect and his wife?”. Hen looked at the two, “That actually might work.”.
“That’s what I was thinking.” Athena chuckled looking at the two men, “Those two will do perfectly.”. Buck and Eddie both rolled their eyes, though Eddie’s face was starting to turn a dark shade of crimson.
“What’s wrong Edmundo,” Hen chuckled. “This should be easy for you two.”. Eddie glared at her, then glanced at Buck. Stop it, he mouthed. Hen laughed, a big laugh.
Buck glanced at her, “What’s funny?” He said staring at her and then Eddie who was covering his face with one of the files. “Wait, I wanna know the joke.”. That made Hen laugh even louder.
“Can we just get back to this?” Eddie asked, rubbing his face with his hand.
“Ok, ok.” Athena sighed, “Ok some more stuff you guys need to know are in this file, go home and read it, study it. We can’t mess this up.”.
Buck raised his hand, “Umm, question… Why us?” he pointed his arm between him and Eddie.
“Good question, we already have a bunch of UC's working on another case, so I needed to find some people I can trust and have enough training for it too.”. Athena looked at the three, “Hen you’re also in this so if they mess anything up you can intertwine.”.
“Wait, what do you mean?” Hen asked.
“If anything goes wrong you can run up to the two and pull them out, you’re going to act as their babysitter.”. Athena answered.
————————
Eddie pulled Hen aside, he knew what she knew and he wasn’t about to let her ruin what he had going.
“Hen what the hell was that?!” he whispered, “He’s not stupid, he’s going to figure out if you keep being obvious.”. Eddie's face was back to crimson red.
“Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, it’s so obvious you’re in love with him. Your eyes literally turn into hearts when you see him.” She let out a soft chuckle.
Eddie had told Hen about 4 weeks ago that he was gay, and then admitted he was in love with Buck. And since then Hen has been making teasing smirks at Eddie every time Buck was near him.
“I-I, don’t do that.” He stared at her, she smirked “Ok, I might do that, but you're gonna make it obvious and I can’t have that happen. If he finds out that could ruin everything, our friendship, our partnership, and he probably won’t come over to see Chris. And you know how much Chris and I care for him.” He wore a soft smile, he glanced up at Hen. She stood there wide eyed and a knowing grin growing.
“You two are so adorable, and you should know he won’t ever do that. He loves the both of you so much.” She reached out to rub Eddie's shoulder.
————————
Buck decided it would be a good idea for him to just come over with Eddie so they could study the files and make a good backstory for their covers.
Eddie sat in the passenger seat, it was almost like a protocol if Buck was with him then Buck would drive. The air conditioning felt cold on Eddie’s skin, he stared out the window at the dark clouds forming, a storm is coming in.
“Eddie, you see that?” Buck asked, looking through the windshield. He had also seen the dark clouds. “You think it’s going to be a bad storm?”.
Eddie glanced in Buck's direction, he knew why Buck was so worried about the storm. He knew Buck didn’t want to be caught in a storm, “Hey, you can stay over till the storm blows over.”. Buck glanced over.
“Really? You’d do that? “Buck asked with a smile tugging at his mouth.
“Of course I would.”Eddie's heart eyes came out again. “You’re always welcome here.”.
Small taps hit the car, it had started to rain. The sound was almost soothing as the two were looking out into the traffic, which was crowding. “Shit, looks like we're gonna be stuck in some traffic.” Buck let out a sigh.
Eddie pulled out one of the files from his bag, “If we’re going to be stuck in traffic let’s at least go through some of the details.”.
Buck let out an annoyed sigh “Alright lets do that.”.
Eddie opened the file, “Ok, the couple is David and Mariam Hovhannisyan,” he flipped the page. “Drug trafficking, distribution and money laundering, blah, blah. Oh here’s something, they have two daughters, twins, their only six.”.
The car fell shallow, two six year olds and they would do something this horrible.
“Ok, some more. They never do anything ‘suspicious’ at the house or restaurant or secret-” Eddie choked. “They probably do the deals at the pa-”.
“Oh my, that’s sick.” Buck interrupted. “How could they do that at the same park their kids play in?”.
“Yeah, that's sick.” Eddie agreed.
“I have a concern.” Buck continued quickly.
“Only one?”
“Our cover.”
Eddie closed the file and leaned back into the seat. “Athena already gave us the basics.”
“Right, but the basics might not be enough. Real couples know stuff about each other.”
“You’ve thought a lot about this.”
“I watched six seasons of White Collar, Eddie. I know things.” He said ominously.
“That explains a lot.” Eddie let out a chuckle.
Buck rolled his eyes. “We need details,” he glanced at Eddie, “We need to be believable.”.
“We have details.”
“Those are too vague, that could be dangerous.”.
Eddie sighed in surrender. “Fine, what do you want to know, fake husband.”.
“You’re enjoying this way too much.”
“A little.” Eddie smirked.
Traffic crawled forward by like 8 feet. Buck slumped lower in his seat. “Ok, let’s start with history. Ummm, how did we meet?”.
Eddie thought for a second. “Mutual friends.”.
“No, that’s boring.”
“It’s believable.”
“We need charm!”
“No we don’t.”
“That attitude is why our fake relationship lacks emotional depth.”
Eddie rolled his eyes, “Fine you come up with it then.”.
Buck grinned immediately, “I have some ideas already!”. Eddie sighed dramatically. “We met at a dog park.”
“You don’t have a dog.”
“We’re pretending, remember.”
Eddie crossed his arms “Next idea.”
Buck thought for a moment, “Ooh we hate each other at first-”
“Because you were so annoying.” Eddie chuckled.
Buck gasped “I’m charming!”.
Eddie shook his head, but Buck caught the tiny smile trying to escape.
Victory.
“Okay, realistically we should keep it simple.”
Buck let out a sigh, “Fine.”
“We met through,” Eddie stopped for a moment. “Christopher’s school.”
Buck nodded slowly.
“You helped me after my son accidentally hit another kid with a dodgeball.”
Buck blinked, “Christopher would never do that!”
“Yeah that’s why it’s pretend. Duh.”
Buck grinned. “See? Now we sound like parents.”
Eddie froze for half a second, he could imagine it. The image hit harder than it should’ve. Eddie opened the file back up.
“So,” he kept his eyes on the file, “How long have we been together?”
Buck glanced at Eddie, “Three years?”
“Too short.”
“You think?”
Eddie gave him a look, “Eight years.”
Buck gave a slow nod, “That’s okay. What else?”
“We lived together for… Two years.”
“We live in an apartment or house?”
“House.”
Buck smirked, “I cook in the house.”
“You’re impossible,” Eddie said.
God, this assignment was going to kill him.
Buck smiled before he could stop himself. Eddie stared at Buck, heat crawling up his neck.
Traffic moved another couple feet.
Eddie cleared his throat, “The Hovhannisyans’ daughters are named Ara and Maria.”
Buck nodded.
“The two are in private school-” He looked down at the file, “That is an expensive sounding school.”
“Well, yeah they're going to go to an expensive school.”
Eddie laughed, shaking his head.
Buck looked at him.
“Okay,” he said, voice quieter now. “One more important question.”
“What?”
“Who said ‘I love you’ first?”
Eddie stared at him. Then barked out one stunned laugh.
“Oh my god.”
“It matters!”
“No, it absolutely does not.”
“What if someone asks?”
“No one is going to ask that at a park, Buck.”
“You never know, Eddie.”
Eddie rubbed his hand over his face, still laughing under his breath. He looked over at Buck, who was now looking strictly at the cars in front of them.
“You did,” he said.
Buck blinked. “What?”.
“In the cover story,” Eddie clarified, still looking at him. “You said it first.”
Buck’s heartbeat faltered.
“Oh.”
“You’re the verbal one.”
Buck swallowed hard. “Right.”
Traffic finally started moving again.
————————
By the time they reached Eddie’s house, the rain had come to a stop. Buck followed Eddie up the walkway carrying three overflowing files and two cups of coffee.
Eddie stopped for a moment, looking back at Buck. “Let me carry the coffees, you’re going to spill them if you carry all that.”
“I’m fine-” He said as he almost tripped on a pebble.
“Nope I want to have coffee so I’m taking them.” He reached out to grab the cups, their hands brushing for a moment.
Eddie continued walking a flutter rising in his chest, Eddie reached for his key and unlocked the door.
Christopher looked up from the couch immediately when they walked in.
“Buck!”
Buck barely made it into the living room before Chris launched himself across the room, Buck did not know Chris could move that fast.
“Hey, Superman.” Buck grinned, steadying himself. “Miss me already?”
Christopher rolled his eyes in a way that was so much like Eddie.
“You’re weird.”
“Correct!” Eddie shouted from in the kitchen.
Chris stopped for a moment noticing the folders in his arms, “What’s that?”.
Buck hesitated, they obviously couldn’t tell him details.
“Work stuff.”
Eddie returned carrying drinks and gave Buck a warning look that meant do not accidentally reveal federal operations to my child.
Buck saluted. Eddie let out a sigh and tossed him a beer.
————————
An hour later Christopher disappeared into his room to do homework. While Buck and Eddie spread files across the dining room table. Or attempted to.
They had ordered Chinese. And Buck had been trying to take some of Eddie’s orange chicken.
“You have your own food, Buck.”
“Well yours taste better.”
“Then you should’ve bought some orange chicken.”
Buck let out a pout, “Just one more.” He begged.
Eddie leaned back in his chair, watching Buck with quiet amusement. He had a staring problem.
Eddie gave in, “Here.”. He gave Buck the rest of his orange chicken.
“Thank you, fake husband.” He let out a soft smile and then stuffed one into his mouth.
Eddie froze for a second. “Okay,” Eddie said, pulling the operation back on track. “We need specifics.”
Buck let out a chuckle, “I thought you didn’t want specifics.”.
“Well, I realized, we’re building fake lives.”
Buck rolled his eyes, flicking a chopstick at him.
Eddie grabbed it and threw the chopstick back, “Favorite movie.”
“For the cover?”
“Yes, Buck.”
“Oh, easy. Yours is Gladiator.”
Eddie frowned “Why?”.
“It just seems right.”
Eddie rolled his eyes, “Your favorite movie is probably something embarrassing.”
Buck looked offended, “First of all-”
Eddie shook his head, smiling despite himself.
“Your favorite movie is Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.” Eddie laughed.
Buck lunged at Eddie, cupping his hand over Eddie’s mouth. “You said you’d never say that out loud! You traitor!”.
Eddie leaned backward almost falling off the chair, he was laughing so hard.
“You think this is funny?” Buck let out a dramatic gasp. “This is what you get traitor!”
Buck pushed his hand further onto Eddie’s face, tipping Eddie’s chair back enough to fall which made Buck fall too.
Shit.
“You dumbass,” Eddie let out a big laugh, he was sprawled on the floor with Buck on top of him. “You’re going to break my ribs, get off of me!”.
Buck lifted himself slightly off the ground, peering down at Eddie. “You're a traitor.”
“And if you don’t get off me, I’m going to be a dead traitor.”
They glared at each other, and for a split second it felt like there was no one else in the world. Eddie could feel the heat rising up his neck, he looked away trying to stop making eye contact.
“We should–” Buck started to get up, “get some sleep. The operations in 3 days.”.
Eddie let out an awkward chuckle, “Yep! We need some beauty sleep.”
Why’d he say that, that’s so stupid he thought almost immediately.
————————
“Okay be honest,” Buck said standing in the middle of Eddie’s bedroom. “Does this look dad-like or does this one?”
Eddie didn’t even glance up, “They both could work fine, it doesn’t really matter what we wear.”
“You’re so rude.” Buck pouted while putting the shirts back in the rack.
“You asked.”
Buck tossed a dark flannel onto Eddie's head, then reached for a different one. “What about this?”
Eddie finally looked up from his phone– and immediately regretted it because somehow Buck had managed to button the shirt wrong.
“You missed a button.”
Buck looked down. “Oh my god.”
“You’re hopeless.”
“And yet,” Buck said smugly while fixing the button, “Athena picked me for this assignment.”
Eddie snorted. “Athena picked us both for this assignment, not just you.”
“Ok, ok.” Buck leaned against the dresser. “Run the operation one more time.”
Eddie sighed like he’d already explained it fifty times. “We arrive at the park around three, Athena and the detectives will stay nearby just in case. Hen will be across the park watching us also just in case. We keep an eye on the Hovhannisyan family until the contact shows up.”
“And if our cover gets questioned?”
Eddie opened the room door, “You stop talking.”
“That’s fair.”
They walked to the front door, Buck still rambled on. That’s when Buck froze.
“What’s wrong?” Eddie asked, looking back.
“We don’t have an anniversary date.”
Eddie groaned. “Buck–”
“I’m serious! What if someone asks?”
“They won’t.”
“But what if they do?”
Eddie looked at him flatly. “May twenty-ninth.”
Buck stared at him, “You made a fake anniversary that fast?”
Eddie shrugged, suddenly very interested in getting into the truck. “The first date was probably a spring one, you like flowers.”
“Wpw,” Buck said quietly. “You really thought this through.”
Eddie immediately regretted saying anything.
“Shut up and get into the truck.”
————————
The park was quite crowded, it was just enough to make surveillance difficult.
Kids were running across the grass, while their parents sat sipping coffee on the benches. It was loud and chaotic, it was perfect for not trying to get noticed.
Athena’s voice came through Eddie’s earpiece the second they entered.
“Targets arrived ten minutes ago. West picnic tables.”
Buck peered from behind Eddie scanning the area.
David Hovhannisyan was sitting on a bench beside a picnic blanket, Mariam stood beside, her hand resting sharp on his shoulder. Their daughters were running around the park, they looked almost identical. The only difference was the different color bows, Maria had a blue bow and Ara had a pink one.
“I still can’t believe they bring their kids to this.” Buck muttered.
“Stay focused,” Athena replied through the earpiece.
Buck and Eddie settled onto a nearby bench close enough that they could hear what they were talking about.
Eddie pulled out his phone pretending to scroll, Buck had his hands in his lap. Nothing was really happening, the Hovhannisyans’ were just sitting watching their kids, nothing out of the ordinary.
That’s when they heard it. “... New buyers…”
Buck slowly turned his head to Eddie, trying to mask his excitement. Finally something was happening.
That’s when Mariam looked up and towards them.
“Shit, she noticed us.” Eddie murmured.
Buck leaned into Eddie pretending to whisper something in his ear, he was trying to look at Hovhannisyans’. Mariam had started to whisper to David.
David’s eyes flicked towards them.
Athena’s voice tightened. “Be careful.”
Buck forced himself to relax back on the bench. Throwing his arm behind Eddie.
“Act natural,” Buck muttered from the corner of his mouth.
“I’m trying.”
Eddie shifted his posture closer to Buck, David continued speaking he kept switching from English to Armenian.
Buck leaned into Eddie trying to hear more of the conversation.
“...Warehouse contact has paid…”
“...Border routes…”
They heard some moving from behind them.
“You’re leaning on me.” Eddie muttered looking away from Buck.
“That’s what couples do.”
Eddie could feel the suspicion building.
But the worst part?
They couldn’t stop listening now, not when the conversation was getting somewhere.
“...Money transfer…”
“...More loads tonight…”
David’s gaze sharpened.
David whispered something to Mariam, Mariam looked at the two.
Athena whispered, “We need another minute.”
Buck tightened his smile, “They think we’re listening.”
“We are listening.”
“Yeah, but they can’t know that.”
That’s when they heard the Hovhannisyans’ getting up.
“Crap,” Eddie muttered.
They couldn’t just walk away now, they would have to talk to them.
The couple walked up to Buck and Eddie, Buck reached out and gripped tight onto Eddie’s hand.
David stood in front of them, it felt like he was staring through their skull.
“Hey, you two. We haven’t seen you two around here before.” He was getting suspicious, this could blow the operation.
Eddie spoke before the silence could get suspicious. “It’s our first time here, that might be why.”
Mariam clung to David's arm, “That’s nice, which ones yours?”. She was trying to get them to slip up.
Eddie spoke again, “We’re here alone actually, we wanted to see if the park is safe before letting our son play here.”
“Is that right?” David looked down at Mariam, a smile growing on his face.
Now Buck was talking, “Yeah,” he said softly, glancing at Eddie. “He has Cerebral Palsy, we don’t want him to get hurt.”
The couple looked at each other, the suspicion was disappearing. “That must be hard.” Mariam replied.
Eddie smiled at Buck, “It is, but he’s one of the best things in our lives. And with my husband here by my side it’s the best life I could ever have.”
Buck was staring at Eddie, like he just got shot with a cupid's arrow. He hadn’t ever been told something like that.
“Awww, you two are so cute.” Mariam fawned, she didn’t show any suspicion of them any more. But David on the other hand looked like at any moment he would pull a gun out on them.
Mariam walked closer and sat next Buck, “Me and David have two little girls. There they are.” She pointed at the two girls, “Ara and Maria, they're only six years old.”
“They're so adorable, they must be the light of your life.” He smiled fondly at the girls, they were running around. Buck always had a soft spot for kids and he’s always wanted a daughter.
David and Eddie were just having a stare off, Mariam noticed so she brought him up. “David, come here.” She reached her hand out to him. He hesitantly reached out and stood beside her.
“Me and him have been together for twelve years, some of my best memories are with him.” She brought his hand to her face, “When did you guys meet?”.
Buck gave Eddie a smirk, he knew someone was going to ask. Buck answered while still smiling at Eddie, “We met eight years ago.”.
Mariam was invested at that point, “Awww, our first date was amazing!” She stared at Buck expectantly. “What’s your guy's first date?”.
Shit.
They hadn’t thought of the first date thoroughly enough, they might break their cover. That’s when out of nowhere Eddie wrapped his arm around Bucks shoulders. And started to speak.
“He worked as a secretary at our son's school. I had to rush to the school because my son had accidentally hit a dodgeball into a student. I was kinda frantic so I got mad at him, till I realized my son was in the nurses office. And then we met again when I had to pick up my son early, and that's when he made the first move and gave me his number on a sticky note. And our first date was at this restaurant he had been talking about for a week-”.
Buck knew this story, this was about a month ago, he had been talking about a restaurant to Eddie, and Eddie surprised him by taking him there a week later.
“It was amazing, they had these delicious soup bowls. I told him he should get one, but he didn’t get one and instead got spaghetti. Which he ended up hating so I let him eat my soup instead and he ended up loving it. So now every anniversary we go there and we both order the soup bowl, but he always ends up eating from mine.”
Eddie looked fondly at Buck, their eyes meeting. Buck felt something fluttering in his chest, what Eddie was saying felt real, too real.
The couple stood in front of them watching intently, till a rustle came behind them. That’s when the couple hurried back to their spot, Athena’s voice crackled through the earphones, “That’s the guy they’re exchanging with.”
Buck quickly shot his head in a different direction then Eddie. “Looks like that’s our cue to start listening in.”, Buck whispered while still looking away from Eddie.
Eddie still sat gazing at Buck, his face was surely a red color, but he couldn’t care. He could not help staring at Buck's beautiful face. The way his hair curls every which way or the way Buck smiled whenever he got complimented.
Eddie couldn’t hide his feelings forever, but he promised himself that he would hide it as long as he could. But he could feel the words ‘I’m in love with you’ tugging at his lips.
Eddie stood up and reached his hand out to Buck, Buck looked up confused.
“What are you doing?”
“Trust me.”
Buck took a deep breath, looking into Eddie's eyes he couldn’t say no even if he tried. “Fine.”, Buck reached out his hand to Eddie and was yanked forward.
“What the hell,” he whispered. “What are you doing?”
Eddie slowly guided Buck towards a tree that sat almost 10 feet from the Hovhannisyans’ and the guy they’re exchanging with, Eddie swiveled Buck forward, pushing Bucks’ back onto the tree.
Buck looked awkwardly at Eddie who was staring right back at him, “What you doing Eds?”.
Eddie’s gaze switched to the picnic table where the guy now sat on the table, but also covered the view of their hands.
“Shhh,” Eddie pointed to his mouth. “We need to hear what they’re saying.”
“Ok.”
They listened in, quietly hoping that they wouldn’t blow their cover.
“...I’ve got the stuff…”
“...Anybody watching?...”
“...10 kilos…”
The listening was going perfectly, but like how everything was for Buck and Eddie it all went South. The group had become silent, and were starting to get up. That’s when the guy who sat on the table started to turn his head toward them.
Shit.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie whispered.
“For wha-”. That’s when Eddie lunged forward and pressed his lips straight onto Bucks, a gasp escaped from Buck mouth as he stood frozen. What the heck was happening.
Eddie opened one of his eyes slightly to peek at the group, they still were looking in the direction.
Eddie pulled away an inch, just to let some words slip out. “They’re still looking, we need to make this look rea–”, Buck lunged forward this time, pulling onto Eddie hoodie. They were back to kissing, but this time it was an actual kiss.
Eddie shut his eyes, leaning into the kiss. This is a feeling he hadn’t quite felt ever. It was amazing, fireworks exploded through his brain. He wanted this kiss to last forever. He wanted to be able to kiss Buck forever.
He wrapped his arms around Buck's neck, slowly lifting one hand into Buck’s hair.
That’s when the world around them erupted into sirens the two quickly jumped off each other. The two were standing staring into each other's eyes, and Eddie couldn’t help but smile. That’s when he realized what had happened, his face quickly turned from pure bliss to fear.
Shit. He just kissed his best friend, the best friend he had been in love with for however long.
Athena’s voice echoed into the earphones, “Good job you two, the suspects and the exchanger have all been apprehended.”
Eddie quickly stepped back, almost tripping over one of the loose roots from the tree. He turned around and flopped down onto the bench. He dropped his head into his hands, he knew might have just ruined his friendship and didn’t want to face it.
Buck stood starstruck back still pushed onto the tree, well that just happened. He didn’t know what to do or say, all his functions had jumped out of his body the moment Eddie had pressed his lips onto his.
He closed his eyes to evaluate what had just happened: His best friend kissed him, then he kissed him back, and it felt amazing.
Wait where had his best friend went. He opened his eye’s suddenly
There sat Eddie and he looked broken, Buck quickly bolted towards where Eddie was sat.
He didn’t know what was wrong, but he had to find out. “Eds, what’s wrong?”.
Silence.
“Eds?”
Eddie finally looked up, Buck’s blue eyes were staring right back at him again. And honestly Buck looked so hot and Eddie was trying his best to not kiss him again.
“Eds..?”. Eddie was now staring directly at him with this expression he couldn’t read. But now he was looking at him and that was all that mattered.
“Eddie are you ok–”
“I’m in love with you.”. Eddie said without turning from Buck’s gaze.
“Well hello to you two,” Athena was now standing behind Buck with a big grin spread across her face. “I was coming over to tell you guys that you did great, but maybe I should leave you guys alone for a bit.”.
Athena stepped back and walked the other way, as if she didn’t just hear Eddie confess he was in love with his best friend.
Eddie put his head back into his hands, and was ready to jump in front of traffic. Buck on the other hand was in even more shock, his list was now: His best friend kissed him, he kissed his best friend, he liked it, and his best friend was in love with him.
“Wow.” Was all Buck could say, Eddie let his head droop lower.
His friendship was about to go into a drain and he would now need to explain to Chris that Buck won’t be coming over anymore.
“I thought you were straight.”
What the fuck.
Eddie’s head shot up, “I just confessed I’m in love with you and all you can say is ‘I thought you were straight’.”.
Buck was looking at Eddie with genuine confusion, and Eddie, Eddie was staring right back at him. That’s when Eddie saw a glint in Buck’s eye, he knew Buck long enough to know what that glint meant.
Eddie’s head fell backwards towards the bench and he couldn’t stop laughing.
Buck was now even more confused and now he didn’t know what was truth and what was lies. Eddie’s laugh echoed through the playground, even Hen was looking in the direction.
Eddie finally caught his breath still chuckling under his breath. He knew what Buck was thinking even if Buck hadn’t said anything he knew what that look meant. That was the same look he always had on his face when he said ‘Really, me?’.
Eddie pounced forward grabbing Buck by the shoulders, “Yes Buck, I’m in love with you.”. He was smiling, knowing that he didn’t need to tell Chris anything.
Bucks’ face lit up with happiness the same happiness he felt when Eddie kissed him.
“Now can I kiss you aga–”
Before Eddie could finish Buck had his hand cupping Eddie's face and they were back to kissing, all the words they didn’t have the courage to say was put into that kiss.
“Ummm..?”
Buck shot his head to the side, there stood Hen who had her phone out and was obviously recording.
Buck still felt the kiss lingering on his lips he wanted to continue, but they had a little visitor.
Eddie opened his eyes, a smitten smile plastered on his face, “Hi Hen.”. His face burning with passion.
Hen let out an elongated sigh, “You guys are idiots. You do realize this is a public park with children everywhere.” She pointed at a group of children whose parents were guiding them away.
Eddie grinned like an idiot, “Sorry Hen.” He didn’t really mean it, the only thing he meant in this moment was the love he felt for Buck.
“Get a room.”
Eddie smirked, “Are you paying for it?”
“Okay, nope—” Buck laughed, quickly covering Eddie’s mouth with his hand.
