Summary
“Good night, Mike,” he hummed, softly. There was something satisfying about the way he said my name. I liked the way it sounded. All of the trepidation we both felt only minutes earlier seemed to have been forgotten– pushed back into the recesses of our minds by the covenant that we would talk to each other again. Or maybe that was just how I felt.
“Good night, Will,” I offered. Maybe it was the mystery of it all– the promise of adventure and intrigue. Maybe it was my curiosity about Will. Whatever it was, it was potent. Almost addictive. And I was already starting to suffer from withdrawal.
----------------OR; The Wheeler family moves to Hawkins, Indiana in the fall of 2017. Sixteen year old Mike hates everything about his new life. He just wants things to go back to the way they were. Until he finds an old rotary phone in the attic of his new house.
When the phone rings out of the blue one night, Mike is wholly unprepared for the dramatic turn his life is about to take.
----------------OR; Mike finds a phone that allows him to talk to some guy named Will, who claims to be calling from the year 1987.

With a fierce tug, I pulled the receiver off the hook and held it to my ear. I could feel my hand shaking. I tried to convince myself that it was probably just some malfunctioning part, making the ringer go off on its own. But that was bullshit, I knew it the moment I thought it; the ringer couldn’t work without power.
“H-hello?” I found myself asking- hoping to whatever god that might be listening that no one actually answered me. There was complete silence over the line for a few blissful seconds. And then my entire world was torn right out of my ass. . .
“Hello?” A voice replied.
