“I’m Phainon,” he blurted, before the man could turn away, taking his attention, and his gaze, with him. The name surfaced from his memories, a bubble rising and popping into sudden clarity. Had he used it in life? Maybe. “At least let me buy my savior some food, as thank you. There’s a diner that has good reviews near here.”
For a few agonizing moments, Khaslana thought the man would refuse him. He would turn and walk away, and this chance would slip between his fingers. But then he sighed and shrugged a shoulder.
“Sure. They have great pancakes there.”The death of a vampire Lord leaves a power vacuum in Okhema, and Nanook sends their youngest to claim it for their clan. Khaslana is, allegedly, one of their favored, but he doesn't feel like it; he is sent with no warning and little backup, into a city swarming with vampires looking to claim the empty throne left behind, all while the ruthless and dangerous vampire hunter Aglaea works to cut the darkness out of the city entirely.
He expects violence and scheming in the city's thin shadows. He does not expect Mydei, or his own decision to fake humanity in a bit to strike up an alliance with the vampire hunter.
