His fingers ghosted along the exposed wire inside Jay's body, a soft current running through him, tickling gently like wild grass in the summer against bare legs in a field.
"Ah— ah, Matt—"
Not this again. They weren't going to get Jay fixed at this rate.
"Bird, chill, I'll be done soon."
"It's uh—"
"Just muscle through it, dude." He pinched the end of the wire with his fingers to reposition it. He roughly entwined it with its other half.
"Matt!" Jay cried out, loud, full-bodied, and this finally made Matt take notice.

In the infinite reflection, Matt saw himself shift uncomfortably, one of his many selves miserably and openly smitten, perceived by an outsider that was simultaneously himself, an Other Self, and how all the Jays in the mirror held him more tightly.
And then all the Jays smiled and laughed and Matt watched as his own reflection — all of them, all of the Matts — laughed too.
