“Mom!! I got an email come quick!” Brooks yelled to his mom. “Oh honey! Go on then open it up.” This was the moment that he and his mom had been waiting for. The email that could change an average americans future. Brooks slowly clicked the email labeled, Teito University of JAPAN”. Gasps and laughter spread from the two, “ I got in! I can’t believe this, i’m actually going to Japan!” This was the moment Brooks has been thinking about since the was a kid. Growing up and studying hard, to eventually live abroad. “I’m so proud of you honey, i know you’re gonna do great! You’ve been on your Duolingo right? I want to make sure you know how to get around that place.” his mom said. Brooks let out a small chuckle, “Yes mom, I’ve been studying my Japanese don’t worry.”
(Timseskip) A month after graduating highschool.
Brooks was quick to pack his bags and search for an apartment close to the school. He learned the quickest routes, the trains, Suica, the vending machines, and even the best foods to grab in the 7-Elevens. He was ready…or so he thought. Brooks was soon told he would be sharing his apartment with someone going to the same university as him. he didn’t mind sharing..what’s the worst that could happen…*Ring ring ring*, Brook’s phone buzzed with the name of “Mama” flashing. “Hey mom, what’s up?”
“Hey honey, was the flight okay?” his mom said wearily..the time difference was definitely something the two would have to adjust to. “Yeah the flight was good, i got to my apartment and it’s bigger than i expected. I have a roommate coming soon to so that will be interesting.” “Good good, just let me know if you need anything or some money okay baby? Mom loves you so much. I’m gonna head to bed now okay?” “Alright mom, I love you too.” As soon as the call ended, the door opened. in the door way stood oliver’s roommate..he was tall, maybe 6’2, jet black hair, a sharp gaze with an almost pointed jawline, medium tone brown eyes, and a tattoo with some kanji characters on his left hand..”英語？(english?) the man said, questioning what language works best for the American dude in the apartment. Brooks responds with a calm tone, “english preferably, but i can speak both..to some extent..my names Brooks, nice to meet you.”
the man didn’t respond at first, almost as if he was translating the words in his head..”Brooks..? hm..my name is Kiro.” oliver nodded in acknowledgment, “どうぞよろしく。(nice too meet you)”, then Brooks bowed a bit, Kiro put on a small smile, happy that the foreigner knew some Japanese. Brooks gave a small smile back, he just knew this was gonna be a great two semesters.
