Any time, Anywhere

Summary:

Ten years into his relationship with Steve Rogers and six months into his third pregnancy, Tony Stark is sent to the past, where he spends three months with preserum Steve, causing Steve to fall in love with him. When Tony returns to the future, Steve is devastated and is ready to wait as long as it takes to see Tony again. Little does he know that it would take 70 years before he would see him again. Once in 2012, Steve learns of Tony Stark and finds out that he and his Tony Stark are one and the same. He races to meet him, and finds out that they are true mates. Things have changed, and forces of evil are much more easily defeated with Steve and Tony capable of basic communication, all while Steve and Tony grow their family.

Or the sweetest, most in love Steve and Tony I've ever written.

Notes:

Please note that any negative opinions that Steve or Tony think or say about themselves are not my opinions; they are simply what I think they think about themselves. Tony is my favorite fictional character of all time, so trust that I will not disrespect him. And Steve is there too I guess. I'm kidding, but really trust that the negative opinions are their own and not mine. Expert for a few moments, where I throw a little bit of shade at canon Steve and Natasha specifically for their actions in CACW, but I still love them lol.

Chapter Text

Tony Stark was six months pregnant when he got sent into the past. The Avengers, with Tony remote piloting the suit, were fighting Loki at the tower when Loki realized that Tony wasn't in the suit. He then distracted the rest of the team with clones of himself, the real one racing down the stairs to the lab. In the mere seconds it took for the team to realize that they were fakes, Loki had reached the lab and Tony.

Loki paused when he saw Tony's belly, but quickly shook himself once he smelled Steve on him, smirking, Loki asked,

“I wonder if your captain will still love you if he doesn't even know who you are.” Before Tony had a chance to reply, no doubt ready with a scathing remark, there was a flash of green, and he was gone. As the green glow faded, the rest of the Avengers rushed into the room. Thor grabbed Loki by the collar and demanded to know where he had sent his friend, but it was Steve who answered.

“I know where or when he is.”

“Well, where did he send him, Steve?” Clint asked, worried for his friend.

“To the past, or rather, my past.”

Steve was sketching when the knock on the door that would change his life came. Bucky was closer to the door, so he went and answered it. There was a moment of silence before Bucky yelled,

“STEVE” Steve sighed and got up, walking to the door. He assumed it was just the police there to talk to him about one of his fights again, but there was a note of confusion in Bucky's voice that shouldn't be there if it was simply the police.

When Steve got to the door, he was in for quite the shock when he saw just who was at the door. It was an omega, a pregnant, very clearly bonded omega, his bite mark scarred deep; the alpha who bit him had to have been in a near frenzy of desire. The omega was beautiful, and Steve couldn't tear his eyes away from him, freezing in the hall as soon as he laid eyes on him. Steve shook himself. This omega was bonded and pregnant, and even if he wasn't, he wouldn't go for Steve.

It was then that the scent of the omega, or rather the omega's alpha, hit him. Every person has their own unique scent, like a fingerprint, but bonded omegas and especially pregnant ones often have their scent overridden by that of their alpha. So when Steve smelled the scent on the omega, he knew he was smelling the man's alpha, so he was more than a little surprised to smell his own scent on the man.

“What the…” Steve trailed off into stunned silence.

“That's exactly what I was about to ask you, when the hell did you go out and get him pregnant, and bond with him?” Bucky asked, but it was the omega who answered,

“Because he didn't, not yet at least, my name is Tony, I'm from the future.”

Bucky scoffed, “No, really, when did you and Steve bond, and why have I never met you before?”

“I'm being serious," Tony said, “ask Steve, he’ll tell you he's never met me before, but I couldn't fake his scent even if I tried.”

Bucky turned to Steve, who said, “He's right, I’ve never seen him before.”

But he wasn't looking at Bucky he was too busy staring into Tony's eyes, those warm brown eyes staring at him with what could only be love, Tony was gorgeous and smelled like him and was most likely pregnant with his baby, and his alpha instincts were going crazy, telling Steve to bring him inside and out of the cold, he was starting to shiver.

Bucky seemed unconvinced, and Steve was having trouble believing it himself but more so that such an omega would go for him one day, yeah sure time travel seemed impossible but he knew for a fact that he had never seen Tony before and he also knew for a fact that scents cannot be faked, so what Tony was saying had to be the truth. Steve saw when Bucky did the same math in his head, and he turned back to Tony.

“What is it you need?”

“Time, I just need time, my team is going to reverse engineer what sent me here and get me back. It's only a matter of time, listen, I don't know what I can tell you without damaging the timeline irreparably, and I certainly don't think you'd believe me if I told you anyway, but really what I need is a place to stay and lay low and not fuck up the timeline until my team brings me home.”

Bucky looked ready to reply, but Steve stepped in then.

“Of course you can stay with us, for however long you need” Bucky shot him a look that said ‘are you crazy, you dont know this guy he could be a serial killer or something’ but Tony smiled at him then and with those warm brown eyes on him he felt like he had known him all his life, and he knew then that there was nothing to be lost by letting Tony in, only things to be gained, like love and a family.

Steve pushed Bucky aside and gestured for Tony to enter, ignoring Bucky's sharp look. Tony smiled at him, and god, what Steve would do to have that smile directed at him again. They gave Tony a brief tour once he was inside and he was very kind about the shabby small apartment, Steve saw the way he was dressed and if that didn't give it away that he had money his watch certainly would, but he didn't seem to be at all bothered by the place in which he would be staying, small and chilly as it might be. Steve smiled, feeling something he had never quite felt before in his life, alpha pride.
—----------------------------

Over dinner, Tony got to talking a little bit about what their futures looked like. He was very cagey and for good reason too; they didn't want this future that Tony spoke of to not come to pass after all. But he did mention that in the future, omegas work more often than not and that he's something of an eventor, he says that tells Bucky that while he has no kids of his own, he does end up mated too, an omega that, according to Tony, drives him up a wall in a good way. Tony then gives Steve some encouragement about joining the army, but hides behind a sip of water when interrogated further, saying nothing more. Steve was thrilled about the army thing, but even more so about the baby and the mating. He asks Tony about it.

“Well when we first met it was a little weird because you had knowledge of me ahead of time, but i had never met you before so you came on a little strong, but i warmed up to you eventually and well now a can't imagine a life without you” Tony smiled but it looked more like a grimice, “geez now im the one coming on strong” Steve felt like he hadn't stopped smiling all dinner and he didn't feel bad about it, there was an omega a brilliant gorgeous omega who was telling him that he loved him and that he would achieve everything he wanted in life, who wouldn't be pleased.

“So about the kid,” Bucky started. He had warmed up to Tony as dinner went on, “Is this your guys' first kid?”

“No, she's our third, we can tell the gender of the baby in utero in my time, we have two boys, Peter and Harley, and we were planning to call her Morgan.”

“Peter Harley and Morgan,” Steve mused, pondering over the names of his children. They sounded perfect, two boys and a girl, Steve had no preference for gender, original or secondary, but he knew the world was unfair to omegas, specifically female ones, so he asked,

“Have any of them presented?” Tony laughed slightly,

“No, they’re five and nine,” Steve pondered this information. If their kids were five and nine, and Tony looked to be in his forties, then he won't meet Tony for the first time until he's older, because why else would they wait that long to have children? It was dangerous for one, and there is no way Steve would risk his safety like this unless they had no other choice.

As dinner wrapped up, Tony was asked one more question.

“Are we happy?” Steve could gather from what Tony had said that he loved his children, but Tony had said nothing about their relationship at all. Now he could tell that Tony loved him; it was clear as day in those warm brown eyes, but love wasn't everything, and Tony clearly had money while Steve had none, so it was possible that there was resentment there. But Tony assuaged his fears with one sentence.

“More than I ever thought I could be.” To know that Tony was happy that Steve could make him happy was more than enough to make him beam, and almost as if he was responding to Steve's smile, Tony smiled back.
