Crownless

Summary:

New ficlet for the Lord of the Mysteries Big Bang mini event.

The theme this time was Yang (darkness within the light and such).

The quote to use: You can't be serious

Notes:

So the event time was 05:30am for me, and I woke up after 6. So after getting all the details, theme and my quote it was 06:15, 20 minutes already down on the timer and my mind chose violence.

So proceed with caution and enjoy!

ALSO, this was partially inspired by the song Crownless by Micolai and some lyrics have been used!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"You can't be serious?!" John looked to his friend.

"I am! I'm really considering converting to the Church of the Fool. Just look at all the good they are doing! The Fool looks to be a God who really does care about the world." He easily replied.

"I know, Steve, but something about that church doesn't feel right."

Steve snorted at that, "You're just being paranoid. Tell you what, why don't you attend mass with me and see what they're all about?"

The two men didn't notice the man who walked past them, the fog shrouding Backlund easy covered him. He was a man who wore a formal suit, a crystal hanging on a chain around his left wrist and cane in his right hand.

And an overly large smile on his face.

Klein was smiling, why wouldn't he? He had just heard two men talking about joining his church.

At least one more anchor for him.

At least one less anchor for Them.

When he arrived in this world he was shocked to find the Gods here truly were real. But then he looked at the state of the world. Poverty, wars, the pain and suffering in everyone's lives.

When he accidentally started the Tarot Club he was shocked at how quickly they agreed to join, how each member had latched onto him when given the opportunity.

It didn't take him long to figure out the cruel truth in the promises of the True Gods. People prayed more when they were going through hardship, so in hardship they were kept.

And he was going to change that.

He was not going to bleed for lies, for the Gods and their hollow eyes.

Starving children filling their graves where not order or grace.

Their mercy was a chain binding the people and he was going to unshackle everyone.

He had seen their kingdoms and how they were built on bones.

He crack his would be halo, letting his light dim to black, because if justice dies behind their walls then he would let the 'guilty' hear his his call.

He will be the monster in Their stories, he will burn all they created to the ground if it means he could spare at least a few from their suffering.

Even if darkness was the price of peace, even if they tried to turn his mercy into hate, even as he wears Their guilt like flames, a holy curse that knows no shame…

Freedom always starts in sin.

And nothing changes when monsters are slain, for the kings on the thrones never change.

But he's coming for the kings.

He's coming for the so-called Orthodox Gods.

With a single step forward he arrived at a pair of graves underneath a tree far from any city. With a flick of his wrist he stole some flowers from a nobleman's garden and placed them on the grave.

"Hello Melissa and Benson, I've been well."

Notes:

As the tags said, I regret nothing.

You can use your imagination to figure out how Melissa and Benson ended up dead, but Klein blames the Orthodox Gods and is doing everything to bring them down.
