Chapter Text
Vani, Lillian and Dallen watched the scene, eyes wide.
A few adults laying in the sand noticed the screams of the teens, and started shouting too.
Other people scrambled up and started running away.
But nobody actually did something to help.
The blue tail kept circling the group of teens, who were clingling together in fear.
Vani turned his head to the other two, a frantic look on his face.
"We have to do something! Everybody is running away and theres not a lifeguard in sight!"
Dallen listened to his friend with a stoic face for a moment, before letting out a small; "Come." and starting to race down the stairs.
Vani and Lillian shared a short glance before following him, this time moving down the stairs like they did it eveyday.
At the end of the stairs case, Dallen opened a backdoor that led directly to the beach, gesturing for them to go through.
"Ill stay here. Ill text one of you if i see some form of help come this way, Okay?"
Both Vani and Lillian gave a small nod before starting to run to the shore.
When they arrived, it was almost completely empty, aside from a few parents standing near the water with a look of distress, trying to signal the teenagers to quickly come this way, but they made not a move.
Another thing broke through the surface, and this time, it was the teen that had gotten pulled down.
Bleeding.
A large claw mark on his chest, the blood flowing out with force, almost his entire body covered in red.
The water around the, started to turn red aswell.
The group let out a cry of horror at the sight and the parents by shore started to scream in panic aswell.
Out of breath, Vani and Lillian watched the large tail come out of the water, the end of it a large tail fin with pointy edges and more eye patterns.
That certainly did not look like a mermaid tail. The size and colours proved that.
Lillian glanzed with slight panic at Vani.
"What are we supposed to do?! There isnt any form of help or medical equipment we can use!"
Vani thought for a moment, before giving her a determent look.
"You go get the medkit from Holly ´ s cafe. Ill jump in to get them."
Lillians eyes widened like the were about to pop out of theyre sockets.
"Wha- Are you crazy?! That kid just got killed!"
But Vani wasnt listening anymore.
In a rush of adrenaline, he ran to the shore and jumped in, starting to make his way over to the group.
A few parents gasped like he was crazy when he went in, and Lillian couldnt believe her eyes.
Vani was lucky he had trained to swim for his job, or else he wouldve drowned for sure in the cold water.
It took him a few strides to slowly get to the group.
Here, his feet couldnt touch the ground anymore and the water was darker. He couldnt see anything.
He called out to the group who were starting to get tired, and were extremely out of breath because of treading water the whole time. Their gaze staying fixated at the lifeless body of the boy drifting in the water.
"Kids! Try to slowly come over to me! Ill bring you back!"
The teens perked up at his voice, slowly nodding as they tried to slowly come his way, but the tail kept circling, making it difficult. It also didnt help that the kept on staring at their friends bleeding body.
One of the teens called out,
"We cant just leave him like that!"
Vani noticed that too.
"It will be okay! You four need to be same first! There will come help for him! Try to come my way when the tail isnt in the way!"
The group glanced at eachother, before listening, making deliberate stroked throught the water until the actually managed to get to Vani.
When they did, Vani started to slowly push them back to the shore.
The adults started to cheer as they came closer, and Lillian had come back the medkit, still staring almost dazed at how her friend managed to do that.
The teens slowly made their way to each of their parent as they started to cry from how thankfull they were to be back.
Vani let out a relieved sigh at the sight, making delibarate stroked throught the water to get back.
Though... he couldnt shake the feeling that this was just..too easy.
He glanced back at were the tail was.
Gone.
Vani stopped in his tracks and frowned.
Where did it...
He got cut off in his thoughts when he felt something grab his ankle.
His eyes widened and just when he tried to call out, he got pulled underwater.
Lillian, who was helping the teens with the medkit, saw Vani get pulled down in the corner of her eyes and gasped.
"VANI?!"
But it was too late.
While being pulled down, Vani tried to pull his ankle away, but the grip was very strong.
He struggled and struggled until the grip loosened, and he finally pulled away.
Just when he wanted to swim to the surface again, he heard a low growl.
He tensed up, feeling frozen as he watched a familiar tail wrapping around him.
He turned around.
And there it was.
A large leviathan.
The upperbody had a light blue skin colour, scales scattered across the body and arm fins on the lower arms.
A large crystal embedded in the middle of its bare chest. It looked like Vani ´ s necklace..but upside down.
The large earfins bobbed slightly in curiousity, and the long, dark blue and black hair and white bangs moved gently in the currents.
The tail was really large. Having colours such as dark blue, cyan, teal and other shades. The eye patterns were the most recognizable, with that hypnotic effect.
There were also two pairs of side fins on the tail, both looking like the large, sharp tailfin at the end.
And two slitted eyes with a strange birthmark on the left one stared Vani down with an intense but rather curious gaze.
But, despite all the terrifiyng features, the leviathan was still rather...
Pretty...
Vani watched despite his blurry gaze with wide eyes at it, feeling almost mesmirezed.
He tried to say something, but almost choked because of the water flowing into his mouth.
At that, the leviathan tilted its head slightly, watching Vani struggle.
It slowly reached out, its webbed hand touching Vani´s chest with curiousity.
...
That touch felt familiar.
The Vani realized.
He had dreamed about this the other day!
In disbelief he predicted it, he didnt realize how both of the leviathans hands were now on him, touching his shoulder, waist, arms..
When Vani pulled back from his thoughts, he couldnt help but let out a muffled chuckle at the ticklish feeling of the hands over him.
Vani gently tried to pull away, not wanting to choke again, but the leviathand seemes like it didnt want him to.
It grabbed Vani´s arm and pulled him closer, now cradling him in its arms, watching Vani´s dumbfounded and maybe even flustered expression.
It reached out to Vani´s necklace, moving the blue crystal at the end of it in its large hand, before out of nowhere pushing it against the upsidedown one on its chest.
Because of that, Vani got a little too close to the face of the leviathan to his comfort.
Vani was confused on why it did that, before he suddenly felt a familiar voice in his head.
"Hello? Can you understand me?"
