“I wasn’t a fan of that drink, by the way,” Shane tells him absently, bending to slip the last plate into the dishwasher.
“What drink,” Ilya says.
“It was the one you left in the gym. I told you I was going to workout while you were gone, I figured you put it there when you were finished before you left.”
Ilya frowns. “Shane. I did not leave a drink for you.”
Somewhat exasperatedly, Shane sets the machine to go and then reaches for the hand towel, dries his palms as he leans against the counter opposite him. “It was the green bottle. That’s the one you always use for that stuff.”
“The green bottle,” Ilya echoes slowly, thick brows furrowed. “Where was it?”
“Between the treadmills. On the mat.”
The memory slams into Ilya like a check to the boards.
“Oh,” he says plainly. And then, distinctly more intrigued the second time, “Oh.”
