It had been so long since Steve had an actual meal, he couldn't take it anymore. His stomach ached with hunger, he had to find something to eat, and quick.
As Steve walked back to base to look for food, he tripped over an unknown object, falling flat on his face. He grumbled to himself and scrambled to his feet, looking over his shoulder to find... Bill's corpse?
It wasn't ideal, but it was Steve's only option. He dropped onto his knees and removed Bill's chest guard and proceeded to unzip the top of his uniform.
"Sorry to do this, bud..." Steve sighed, ripping the gloves off of his hands, revealing his sharp, pointed claws. He began clawing at Bill's chest, tearing his flesh apart in order to get to what was inside. Once he finished digging around he pulled Bill's heart out of his open chest, lifting it up into the air.
Steve gazed up at Bill's still heart in adoration, as if it were the finest delicacy. He stuck his tongue out, allowing a drop of blood to fall into his mouth. He savoured the metallic, yet strangely sweet taste, ready to go in for more.
But before Steve could even begin to enjoy his meal, he caught sight of a black and white blur in the distance. And it seemed to be rapidly getting closer. Was that a bird? "Please tell me that's not-" he started, right before said blur slammed right into him, knocking him onto his back.
Of course it was Captain. He just had to get involved in everything. "What on earth are you doing?!" He shrieked, smacking the heart out of Steve's hand.
"I had to eat something. He was already dead anyways," Steve informed, as if that made any difference.
Captain lifted himself off of Steve, pulling himself back onto his feet. "I could have bought you lunch, you idiot! That was a horrible thing you did, we don't eat our friends!" Captain scolded, deeply disappointed with Steve's behaviour. He yanked on Steve's tail, shaking his head. "And how many times have I told you to hide this? Do you want to be hunted for sport?"
"Yeah, whatever. But you get to flaunt those massive wings of yours whenever you want? Show off," Steve accused, clearly envious that Captain had the freedom to express his true self.
"You're just hungry. Come on, I'll get you some lunch," and with that, Captain wrapped one arm around Steve's waist and tucked the other beneath his legs, lifting him into the air.
Steve huffed and crossed his arms, still grumpy about being told off. He pointed towards a nearby McDonald's and looked up at the Captain, tilting his head on a slight angle.
"Fine, we can go to McDonald's. You're lucky I don't just feed you vegetables," Captain chortled, amused by his own joke.
Captain carried Steve into the building and made his way towards the cashier, setting Steve down next to him.
Steve leaned down to whisper into Captain's ear, telling him what to order. Captain nodded and turned to the cashier, repeating Steve's order to them.
After a little while of waiting, the cashier handed Steve several bags of food, a look of concern on their face. "And... This is all just for the two of you?" They questioned, surely that can't be healthy for the two.
Captain shook his head and laughed. "Nope, all for him," he corrected, gesturing towards Steve. He reached up and grabbed the bags of food before he handed them to Steve.
Steve and Captain headed towards the nearest booth and sat across from each other, leaving the poor cashier bewildered.
Captain watched as Steve scarfed his food down like a starved animal. He really was hungry. Captain rested his chin in his hands, patiently waiting for Steve to finish off his lunch.
Steve dabbed at the corner of his mouth with a napkin, signalling that he'd had enough.
"Steve... We need to talk about your recent behaviour," Captain stated, concerned about Steve's earlier actions.
Steve glanced up, looking into his Captain's eyes. "Hm?" He tilted his head in curiosity.
"Well, you made a promise a few weeks ago. You said you'd make an effort to get better. No more violence, no more... Feasting on the dead..." Captain shuddered in disgust at the thought of Steve doing something so nasty.
Steve sighed and rolled his eyes, he knew this conversation would come sooner or later. "Look, I'm not gonna lie to you. I don't think I can get better, it's against my nature. I wouldn't even know where to start! I think you should just give up on me. It's no use," he reached out and held his hand against Captain's cheek, praying that he wouldn't take it too hard.
Captain leaned away from Steve's touch as tears welled up in his eyes. He frantically blinked to keep himself from crying, far too ashamed to let the other man catch him crying.
Steve decided it was probably best to leave Captain alone for now and set a 100 dollar bill on the table to pay for the food. He stood up and walked out of the building, leaving Captain at the table.
The moment that Steve had left, Captain completely fell apart. Was this Steve's way of breaking up with him? He covered his eyes with his hands, silently sobbing into them. He couldn't believe that Steve had just given up so easily, surely they could've worked something out?
