Summary
Dennis laughs, then falls silent as he watches Robby tilt his head back and look up into the trees overhead.
There is the burble of water running, leaves rustling, and the far-off noises from other hikers on the trail. His eyes slip closed, and the flickering sun dances across his eyelids. Dennis breathes in and out.
“I’m going to miss you when you’re away,” he admits quietly, not opening his eyes.
He doesn’t expect a response.
