Chapter Text
“I have to tell you something.” Sunny says looking at his friends. It’s finally time after all this time they can finally hear the truth. Sunny's heart races as he looks at all of them. He knows what he has to do. Sunny’s friends all look at him concerned.
“Sunny, you need to get back into bed! Your wound is still healing!” Kel says surprised to see Sunny awake.
“Ya, once you're better then we can talk all you want.” Hero says, looking at Sunny with concern.
“No, there is something you need to know. Something I should have told you from the start.” Sunny says as everyone’s attention is on him. Basil sleeps soundly unaware of what Sunny is doing. Sunny wonders how Basil will feel when he wakes up and everyone knows the truth. Sunny knows everyone will hate them and will never forgive them. But Sunny knows they deserve to know.
“Mari didn’t hang herself.” Sunny manages to say as everyone looks at him in shock as the room falls silent.
“Sunny. You know that isn’t true. We all found Mari like that. It was no one’s fault.” Hero says trying to reason with Sunny.
“It’s going to be ok Sunny. We know how much Mari meant to you.” Kel says chiming in.
“No! She didn’t kill herself, it was me!” Everyone looks at Sunny with disbelief and they look shaken. Hero looks like he is about to object but Sunny continues.
“It’s true. We had an argument the day of the recital. I was tired, I thought I was going to fail! I just wanted to be with you all again!” Sunny says as he begins to cry. He wipes the tears off from his face near his remaining eye as he continues.
“I threw my violin down the stairs! When Mari saw she freaked! I never saw her so mad before!” Sunny says as he feels the truth all pouring out. Hero looks pale. Aubrey is shaking as she listens to every word. Kel eyes are wide as he listens.
“I wanted to leave! I was scared! She grabbed me as I was heading towards the stairs! So I- I pushed her!” Sunny tries to keep his composure so he can continue. His friends look like they're going to be sick. Hero is frozen as he looks at Sunny with a foreign look. Aubrey has a hand over her mouth and her other hand has tightened into a fist. Kel looks at Sunny with disbelief in his eyes.
“She fell down the stairs! I told myself she was just unconscious, but I knew deep down! She was dead!” Sunny says as the horrifying memory plays back in his head. Mari laying at the bottom of the staircase. Her laying on top of the violin.
“But- we found her! She was hanging!” Aubrey shouts in disbelief as tears flow down her face.
“I brought her to bed! But Basil saw everything and he knew she was dead! He wanted to protect me! So, we brought her to the back yard, and the next thing I knew she was hanging!” Sunny says, fully breaking down as the full truth comes out.
“YOU! DO YOU KNOW WHAT-” Aubrey begins to shout in pure rage but she stops mid sentence as she closes her eyes as tears pure down her face. Hero is frozen. He is looking at Sunny right in his eye. The look is asking why. Kel is standing there and he looks shocked. Suddenly Hero snaps out of his trace.
“You killed her. You murdered her.” He says while he isn’t shouting the anger is still there. He loved Mari, and now he knows the truth. His voice is breaking as he approaches Sunny.
“Hero.” Kel says as he puts a hand on Hero’s shoulder. What is Kel doing. There is no way he is defending Sunny after what Sunny did.
“Kel! Do you know what he did! He took Mari from us!” Hero shouts now the rage pure in his voice.
“It wasn’t murder. It was an accident.” Kel says, trying to calm Hero down. Sunny just stands there in pure shock. Kel is actually defending Sunny. Sunny never imagined any of his friends would still like him after hearing the truth. To see Kel like this has left Sunny frozen.
“I DON’T CARE! HE STILL-!” Hero shouts as he starts crying into his hands.
“GET OUT OF HERE! LEAVE US ALONE! I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN! MARI LOVED YOU! SHE LOVED ALL OF US! AND YOU TOOK HER FROM US! GET OUT!” Aubrey shouts violently. She looks at Basil with pure rage and then back at Sunny. She then rushes out of the room.
After a moment Sunny leaves as well. On his way out he sees Hero still looking at him angrily and betrayed.
Sunny has tears streaming down his face as he heads back to his hospital room. Nothing will ever be the same again.
Sunny and his mom have moved away from Faraway town. After Sunny was discharged they left and headed to their new neighborhood. While Sunny was still in the hospital Kel would visit him. He told him while Hero and Aubrey still needed time, that he had forgiven him. He said that he’ll keep in contact and that Sunny should call often.
Sunny tried to tell him that he doesn’t deserve his kindness. Sunny told him that everyone is right about him and that Kel should just treat him like the murder he is. Kel just hugged Sunny and told him that everything was going to be ok.
They have been living in the new house for a week now. Sunny’s mom is currently at work. She had left steak in the freezer for Sunny for whenever he gets hungry. Sunny doesn’t feel like eating though.
He hasn’t been able to enter his headspace since he finally addressed the truth. Omori has been gone as well. But Sunny has been thinking more and more lately about how Omori was right. Sunny should have ended it all years ago. But he’s still here.
There is a mountain nearby that has a local legend about it. It’s about monsters hidden inside it and how anyone who climbs the mountain will die. When Sunny first heard the legend he knew. It was perfect.
Sunny gets up from his chair. Going into his room he grabs Basil’s photo album. He wants to have it on him when the end comes. At least he can die with something important to him. Sunny heads to the door and opens it. He looks off in the distance and sees the mountain.
It’s time.
Sunny walks down the street and continues until he reaches the forest. It takes about five fifteen minutes until he finally reaches the mountain. He stands at the base of it and looks up at it. He starts to walk up the mountain.
After a while he reaches the top. He sees a small cave. Going inside it he sees a large hole in the center of the cave.
He sits down as his legs dangle over the edge. He pulls out the photo album and looks through it. All the memories and good times enter his mind as tears start to fall down his face. He knows that those memories are in the past and he will never make new ones with his friends. He puts the photo album back in his pocket before looking into the darkness of the hole.
With a blank expression Sunny stands up. He jumps into the hole as he feels himself start to fall. Sunny thinks about his former friends and the last time he saw them. Now that he is going to die they can finally have peace.
