Vecna’s plan, that at long last he had begun, was going awfully. The group of literal children had somehow found their way into the Abyss — climbing a radio tower somehow, having waited for the planet to be right on top of them, which was the stupidest thing he’d ever heard since for all they knew the collision could’ve been instant (why’d he make it so slow again? Surely he could do faster.) — and were heading straight for him. He’d hoped to have an army of monsters meet them, but unfortunately he’d melted them to create the Mind Flayer. Oh well. He had a giant monster. They’d be crushed instantly, surely. He got back to crashing the Abyss into the Earth for reasons he would not specify to anyone.
And then suddenly the children were winning. Against the Mind Flayer. Why’d he give this thing a physical form again? It was far more useless than he’d expected. It could’ve possessed them all or he could’ve just torn them to pieces with Demogorgons. They were weaker than the Mind Flayer, sure, but there would’ve been so many it wouldn’t have mattered. But he hadn’t done any of those things, and now they were killing it with flares and water balloons and spears. Why did they think spears would hurt it when it took a lot of gunfire to kill one Demogorgon? Whatever, he was tired of this. He was just going to squish them all when Eleven showed up to fight him, and while fighting her he had to deal with Will trying to… redeem him? Or something? Hadn’t he killed a whole bunch of the group’s friends and ruined their lives and all that?
And also couldn’t he just straight up kill them all? He’d spent ages opening up a giant portal — that got bandaided over — by killing people with his mind. The torturing with bad memories beforehand was just for fun, really. And Eleven had exploded a bunch of people’s brains in season 1 — which he did not know about of course because he did not know it was a TV show — so why couldn’t he? Another water balloon exploded on the Mind Flayers head and he got really sick of it.
It didn’t take long to find everyone’s minds and just do the bone snapping thing. They were even in the same dimension — except Max and Vickie, who he got just in case — just to make it easier. He didn’t need to be hooked to the ceiling, he’d killed his whole family as a child, and he was way stronger now. Soon only Will and Eleven were left, trying to use their powers to stop him, but given Will had literally no training since he got his powers two days before he wasn’t much of an issue for Vecna. And given he’d just killed all her friends, and she was a lab experiment, et cetera, Eleven had plenty of trauma he could use against her. And finally there were no meddlesome children (he hated that he’d used meddlesome) left to stop his nefarious (he also hated that wording) plans. Which he was doing. For reasons. And could now actually carry out. So he crashed the Abyss into Earth and it all exploded. Because he wanted to do that. For reasons.
