He closes his eyes before the jump takes him. The deep abyss of a glistening sea opens up before him in the center of empty space, the haunting cadence of an echo calling out to him from the light shimmering just above muddy waters as they wash up to shore in between the rocks.
He’s heard her voice a thousand times—across the sea and time itself, a lilting influence, calling to him.
He never meant to answer it, and yet he always had.
