Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

Vi was just incapable to place the exact moment when everything just got fucked.

It could be when those fuckers leaded by Deckard tried to assault her and her brothers when they go to rob the place that little man had talked to them. Maybe it was the moment when that fucker, after being beated by Vi tried to take some vial with a strange purple shit, not even capable to remove the cap before Vi snatch it. maybe was the moment when she decided keep that vial at her pocket before keep going topside to try to get a good haul. It could be the moment when the heist got interrupted by that girl.

Vi just saw her for a few seconds but still remember her. So unmistakably piltie, a little prim and prissy doll, lean, delicate, drapped in fine clean clothes, looking her with shocked blue eyes, her clean and somehow cute face, framed by her dark blue hair with an astonished expression, like if she was incapable to understand what she was seeing.

Then come the explosion, the strange stone falling off Powder's hand, hitting the floor, Vi saw just in a moment how the thing seems iluminate and sparkled before the instinct kicked, and she moved fast, so fast that she couldnt see the vial falling off her jacket's pocket, breaking against the floor, the purple liquid somehow being absorbed by the brilliant stone, while Vi tried to cover her sister with her own body. shouting at her brothers to run away.

The stone exploded just then, a blinding light hitting her and Powder, whithe light with some purple strands, making her like her body was being burned in a furnace. It passed fast, and when she oppened her eyes she was weirdly intact, her body aching but apparently intact, her sister alive and fine, wincing like if she fells the same burning at her body. Looking back Vi could see that piltie girl lying at the floor trying to stand, after being hitted by the blast. She didn't stay there, just take her sister and started to run, her sister following her and her brothers leading the way. The enforcers were at their trail no late enough but they manage to lost them and return to the lanes.

Maybe was the moment when she saw confined in the room where Vander locked her how that monster killed the sheriff and Benzo, and toke Vander away with that guy with the weird eye giving the orders (Silco, Benzo named him Silco).

Or maybe was the moment when she saw her brothers die at that warehouse, after that second bright explosion. The explosion that Powder ,ade trying to save them, she knew that, of course that she knew that. But in that moment Vi was incapable to stop herself. Just was impossible, contain all that rage, all that pain, and she simply turned against her sister. For first and only time at her life, just for a few seconds, she really thought that she hated her sister, and she just let out that hate against a child who just had been trapped in a situation too big, and too hard for her.

The feeling passed quickly, like a breeze, and all that left in her was shame, and consequences. The last thing that she saw that night before someone grabbed from behind and put her to sleep with some drug was the pain and sorrow in the curled body of her sister, who she had failled.

Vi was living her third month at Stillwater, after she just wake up at a dark and dirty cell, just a child of fifteen years old trapped there until her death. At first she just lost it, despairing for being trapped in the always feared hellhole. She learned soon that shouting and pleading didn't make her any favors. The guards response was the same for any thing that bothered them, they hit her, hard, many times, with their batons, their boots, until she was incapable to make a sound. First times she tried fight back, always was worse, until she learned to keep quiet. After the second month she almost lose all hope, just punching the walls to let out her fear and anguish, condemned to be always under Piltover's boot. Until thae day when all changed, the day when for first time at her life Vi was capable to return the hit.

The day started the same, three months trapped there, Vi was just hitting the wall to let out her pain and rage, feeling lost and angry, when she feel the change, just was a intense rage burning into her soul, just only one punch launched without contain herself, without caring about hurt herself. And the world changed. Vi could see how the stone wall just broke, her punch tearing a hole at the previously unbreakable stone.

She hadn't time to even think, before she heard the steps of the corridor's guard, reaching her cell.

"What the heck? You! Hands up and move away from that hole, NOW!" Screamed the fuckface reaching the keys.

The guard opened the cell weilding the baton. It was so familiar to Vi now, he just didn't wait any response from her before starting to hit her without restraint his strength. But when the first hit reach Vi's head, She didn't feet pain, just a strange fleeting sensation, like her head was heavier for a second, and Vi just reacted.

Vi could remember all of those days being mauled by those guys, the way that they seem bask in her pain. She could feel again the same rage, no, the hate for all that they represent, all the pain that their army, their weapons enabled them to pouring at her people. She just didn't tink, just clenched her fist and throw a punch, against his chest, covered by a body armor. It was a strange sensation, when she left her fist fly she feel lighter and faster that ever, her fist coliding against metal. But the sound of her own fist breaking didn't reach her. Instead she saw how the body of the guard just bursted. The armor and chest collapsing and the guard flying like a bullet against the bars, the impact almost breaking them.

Vi just saw the scene incapable of believe what was happening, looking at her feets she could see cracks, spider web-like at the stone floor, the corridor so quiet that seems dead. the few prisioners who could see the hit pale and strangely mesmerized seeing the girl who had made someting impossible. But this was her only chance, so Vi choose go big. Closing to the guard the searched the body and toke the key, and started to open all the corridor's cells.

"Are we trying a prision riot?" asked one of the inmates.

"Well yeah, i suppose" answered Vi. "But if we want a chance we need more people. The guy didn't had a chance to raise the alarm, so maybe we have a chance. I guess that we could going to every corridors and liberate so much people as we can. And then trying to roll over the guards by numbers."

The other inmates were looking her and the dead guard, probably calculating their possibilities. "Duh, fuck it. Im in, it's better that rot her forever" said one of them shrugging. These seem awake the others, and from there they started to move. Vi toke the guard weapong, the baton and a handgun and give them to the inmate who just talked, and without a word she move to the elevator.

Things were smooth a few floors, Vi launching herself running faster that ever sha had been capable and hitting like a cannon. The guards were incapable to react in time, they were dead in a hit. After three floors they have the mumbers and the weapons to overwhelm the guards without Vi launching herself the first. But now the prison was on alert. And the guards were waiting them at every floor. They lose people trying to ascend to the exit. But every floor their numbers were bigger and there was not barricade that Vi was incapable to blast. After what seems hours of fighting, they reached the upper level, that was the bloodiest part. They got only one door to exit, making impossible capitalize their numbers and the rest of the prision guards were focusing their wepons there, until someone suggest take the corpses of the guards and use them like shields. Vi tried to take one, but strangely, the strength what seem capable to blast holes at walls was not enough to let her lift a body without a big effort. "strange, i'm not feeling weakened, and with that strength this should be easy" was Vi thinking, until oyher inmate, bigger and broather take the body fron her hands.

"Let me do it Hound, we have your back" said the man with a croocked smile.

Hound, the name made Vi's throat clenching, remembering Vander's death. "I'm not the Hound" said Vi with a coarse voice. "He died months ago."

The man just look at her "We knew. I mean, even here you can receive some word from the world. But the undercity always had a Hound. And you seem fit in the mold."

Vi just could think about her faillure, at save Vander, at protect her brothers, at fullfill the last promise at her dad. Take care off Powder... her eyes swealling with tears, tears at the worst moment when they were still at the tight rope. "I'm not the Hound, and this is not even the Undercity. This is just a fucking hellhole from we are going to escape." Vi returned to the last door, the other survivors prepared with the makeshift corpse shields, the freedom just at little more ahead. "If i'm crawling out from the hell, climbing over dead bodies, i'm a Hellhound, and i'm going to take this hell to all of them, all of those fucking monsters who thought that was fine destroy all my world." said clenching her fists, her mind burning with all their faces; Sevika, Silco, That enforcer bastard who work for him, and Piltover, above of all always Piltover. "I'm going to make them pay, until the last drop of blood that they owe me, that they owe to all of my people. And i'm starting here." Vi jus readies her stance and nod the others.

With a roar, the survivors charged to the guards across the bottleneck, some of them fall at first, bullets finding targets even with the cover of the corpses. But soon enough the balance tipped to the survivors, with their numbers overwhelming the guards, who fall to their own weapons or the fist and boots of the inmates. Vi herself saw the warden, that fat pig shouting orders and running away like a rabbit. Without much thinking she run, faster again and reach him in a few seconds, putting herself between him and the exit.

"Well, look at this; for a fucking whale you sure can run for your life" Said cracking her knuckles with a twisted grin at her face.

The warden was pale but not scared, he never saw what Vi was capable now, and only could see a fiftenn years old girl, a easy prey. Quickly he toke his baton "You should be gratefull that we let you live and be quiet, but what could be expected for a vermin like you. We should have killed all of you and save ourselves more problems." Said with a contorted face filled with despise and hate. The warden tried to hit Vi with the baton, and Vi reacted launching her fist against his hand. It was over in a breath, Vi's fist travel like a bullet and hit the warden's hand like a cannon, bursting it yn a splash of blood, flesh and bone. The warden saw his wrist, mangled and spurting blood, and a second later he was on his knees while grab the wrist with his remaining hand, screaming like a pig in a slaughterhouse. The man looked up to Vi, who was returning the look, face calm, eyes cold, the kind of look that you give at a some pebble in the road.

"Yes, you should have killed us" was Vi's response before launch a final punch at his head, bursting it like a melon.

The battle was over, the last guards were dead or being killed by the survivors, and the only thing that left was fleing to the Undercity. Vi looked around at the survivors who looked her like a mithycal figure, and just started to walk to the prison entrance. Crossing the door she saw the night sky over her head, and Piltover's lights at the distance. "Soon, but not now." Said in a whisper, thinking about the most important issue at the moment, a promise to mantain. "I'm going back Powder. I will find you"
