Chapter Text

Graduating pastry school is what Megan is most proud of herself for. That and asking Daniela out on a date, of course. It’s a few days after graduation and the girls–that being Daniela, Manon, Lara, Yoonchae and Sophia–took her out for dinner. They’re at a fancy Italian restaurant and if it weren’t for Sophia, Megan would feel totally out of place.

Everything has been great so far! Normal except for the fact that Manon and Lara walked in holding hands. No one’s said anything about it and Megan’s beginning to wonder if she imagined it.

“Remember, I’m paying!” Sophia says with a grin. “Get whatever you want. Especially you, Meg.”

Under most circumstances, Megan would try and get the cheapest thing on the menu but you can’t do that with Sophia. She gets mad if she notices and yes, she does check, taking photos of the menu and everything.

“I’m thinking of getting gnocchi.” Daniela leans close to Megan’s ear. “Do you want to share some with me?”

“You’re not going to finish it?” Megan asks.

“I was thinking we each get something and share.”

Megan smiles. “Sure! I was going to get the vodka pasta.”

“Yum.” Daniela grabs Megan’s hand, their fingers intertwining. The atmosphere is incredibly romantic and for a second Megan forgets the rest of their friends are here. “We should come here alone sometime.”

“Maybe for our two-year anniversary?”

“I’d love that.”

The waitress comes over and everyone orders. Upon hearing Megan has never tried calamari, Sophia ordered some as an appetizer. Yoonchae said it’s squid so Megan is expecting not to like it but it’ll be interesting to try nonetheless.

The group make small talk until their food comes and the second Megan takes a bite of her pasta, she decides it’s the best pasta she’s ever tried. When she has some of Daniela’s food, she decides this is the best Italian restaurant she’s ever been to.

“I’m going to be so bloated after this,” Megan says.

“No!” Daniela says. “You’re, like, the skinniest person I know.” She brings her hands up to Megan’s face, pinching her cheek.

Megan glares at her. “You’re embarrassing me.”

Daniela giggles before letting go.

“So!” Sophia says, getting everyone’s attention. “I think we need to address the elephant in the room. Manon, Lara, care to explain what’s going on with you two?”

Lara goes wide-eyed while Manon laughs. She shakes her head. “Don’t make this about us. It’s Megan’s day.”

“This will make my entire year!” Megan exclaims.

The maybe-couple exchange looks before Lara shrugs and says, “yeah, we’re dating. Don’t make a big deal out of it, okay?”

“I’m going to make a huge deal out of this!” Daniela says despite already knowing they were fuck-buddies. Megan did indeed tell her because of course she did! They’re practically the same person at this point.

“Why is everyone dating each other?” Yoonchae asks. “Is there something in the air?”

“We’re going to move in together soon,” Manon says. “Outside of college; we don’t really want to live there anymore.” Megan knew about Manon moving but she had no idea Lara was going to join her.

“Take us all with you,” Sophia says.

Yoonchae nods. “I’m getting sick of my roommate.”

Sophia gasps which makes Yoonchae laugh.

The rest of dinner goes well and Manon and Lara seem less on edge the entire time. The group gets an assortment of desserts, trying each one, Megan’s favorite being the tiramisu. Sophia pays the bill and before they walk outside, Megan pulls her to the side and thanks her, giving her a hug.

“Anytime!” Sophia beams, squeezing her. She pulls away. “I’m really proud of you. I know it must’ve been hard uprooting your life like that.”

Megan nods. “I’m glad I did it, though.”

The two head outside. Before Megan can go to Daniela, she’s approached by Manon, who says, “I need to talk to you about something.”

A pit forms in Megan’s stomach. Is she in trouble? Did she do something? Surely not. She follows Manon a few feet away from the rest of the group.

Manon clears her throat. “Me and Lara need a third.”

“What?”

“The–”

“I have a girlfriend!” Megan says. Not only does she have no interest in Manon or Lara, but she also has no interest in cheating. Why wouldn’t they invite Daniela, too? Is four too many?

“Not like that!” Manon exclaims. “Ew.”

“Oh, sorry,” Megan says.

“I meant roommate,” she sighs. “There’s an extra room. Rent would be cheap because my uncle owns it.”

“You have a big family.” Megan knows almost everyone Manon is related to at this point. There’s her cousin, her uncle, her mom, her dad, that one random aunt that came to her graduation, the–

“It’s a few minutes from campus and like fifteen from the bakery. We thought it’d be convenient for you.”

“That’s not bad.” The entire thing sounds extremely promising which has her a little worried since nothing ever goes her way. When things seem too good to be true they usually are. Except for Daniela but she doesn’t count when Megan talks about her misfortune.

“Dani can come whenever she wants, by the way!” She says, throwing her arms out. “She can practically live there for free, if you want.”

Even better. “Can I look at it?”

“Yep. We move in next week so you can come look then.”

This may be exactly what Megan needs. She starts working at Manon’s cousin’s bakery soon, meaning she’ll most likely have enough money to live on her own. She’ll be working quite a bit; Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00-3:00. It’d be nice living closer to Daniela and being on her own again; she has nothing against her mom but after being independent for a year it’s hard living at home. Also, living with Manon and Lara sounds like a lot of fun. As long as they don’t break up, that is.

“How long have you guys been dating?” Megan asks.

“About a month.”

Megan chuckles to herself, thinking about the U-Haul lesbians joke.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing! I’m going to go talk to Dani. Let me know when I can check the place out!” She rushes off, finding her girlfriend almost immediately. Daniela is waiting by her Mustang and the two kiss before going inside.

“Manon said I could room with her and Lara if I wanted.”

“Really?” Daniela says, turning the car on. “That’s cool. Are you going to?”

Megan shrugs. “I need to look at the place and stuff. Would you want me to? It’s super close, apparently.”

“I’d love it if you were closer to me.” She pushes a strand of hair behind Megan’s ear before pulling out of the parking lot. “If you want to, I say go for it. Don’t be surprised if you have to hear them fucking all the time, though.”

“Oh god, I didn’t think of that,” Megan whispers. “We can just out-fuck them.”

Daniela laughs. “That’ll show ‘em!”

“Manon said you could come over whenever you’d want.”

“I’ll be there every fucking night. I can’t get enough of you.”

***

Daniela pulls away from their kiss, smiling as she looks at Megan. “Let me know if you need anything, okay?”

“I will, promise. I love you.”

“Love you, too!” Daniela backs away, blowing Megan a kiss. Megan rolls her eyes but does the same, watching as her girlfriend walks down the hallway. Once she’s out of sight, Megan closes the door and takes a deep breath.

The first thing she notices is the silence. For some reason, she expected Manon and Lara to be louder. They were for a bit, but the later it got the less they spoke and they’ve been in their room for about an hour now. Megan doesn’t know what to do with herself; she doesn’t want to disrupt them in any way. The idea of them getting sick of her makes her feel ill.

Their apartment is still rather unfurnished, along with white. All that’s in the living room is one lone couch and a TV. The kitchen is much more modern than Megan expected, which she’s thankful for since she’ll be in there a lot.

She tiptoes her way into her new bedroom, starting to unpack some more. Daniela helped her for about two hours before Megan insisted she wanted to do it herself. She felt pressured with Daniela around. Her girlfriend didn’t do anything wrong, she simply overthinks everything when it comes to unpacking, which Megan wasn’t aware of until now.

Are you sure it should go on the left and not the right? Maybe we should angle the dresser to give you more space? You should totally put a mirror here. Don’t worry, I’ll buy one for you! I feel like the closet is smaller now. It is smaller, right? I’m not losing it?

Megan doesn’t even want to imagine what it’ll be like when the two inevitably move in together.

She feels on edge by herself. She’s not used to her surroundings or having two roommates. Sure, back at home she had her mom and her brother and yeah, she shared a dorm with Lara for a bit, but this is different. There’s something about her being a new addition to Manon and Lara’s place that unsettles her.

Before she unpacks her suitcase, Megan admires her bedroom. She hasn’t hung any photos up except for the polaroid of her and Daniela that’s on her mirror. When she has time she’s going to make a little collage on her wall with all her friends. The only thing she brought from her childhood bedroom is her lamp and bed. Daniela bought her a new dresser that she insisted on making herself since Megan is apparently bad at furniture making. The second she’s financially stable she’s going to buy a TV so she can play on her X-Box without bothering anyone in the living room.

She grabs some of her clothes, going to the closet Daniela thinks is too small. She carefully hangs them up, trying not to make much noise when the hanger hits the metal pole.

“I had a feeling you were being extra careful.” The voice startles Megan, making her jump.

Manon laughs, leaning against the doorframe. “Are you really that on edge?”

“No!” Megan spits out. “This is just how I always am. I mean, this is our first time living together, y’know? You’re not used to my quirks! And stuff.”

She stares at her for a brief moment. “You live here now, make noise. It’s weird when you don’t.”

“I was worried you guys were napping or something,” Megan says, though she’d be quiet either way. “You’ve been really quiet.”

“We’re not like Dani, we actually have energy,” Manon says. “We were going to order some takeout as a move-in-day celebration. Does pizza sound good to you?”

Megan nods. “Yeah, totally!”

Manon hesitates before turning around and exiting Megan’s bedroom. It’s not long after Megan hears her say, “Lara, your best friend is walking on eggshells!”

“Oh my god, Megan!” Lara exclaims. “Loosen up a bit! We’re your friends.”

Megan rolls her eyes, going back to unpacking, trying not to worry about how much noise she’s making. Once she’s done she heads into the kitchen, looking through their cabinets to see if they have any baking materials. Baking always calms her down and she’s rather stressed at the moment.

“Box mix, really?” Megan whines, finally giving up.

Lara, who is in the living room, looks up from her phone. “Not everyone is a master baker like you, Meiyok!”

“You’ll never need another box mix now that I’m living here.” She shuts the cabinet, leaning back on the counter.

Should she go to the store? That would be somewhat rude, wouldn’t it? Since Manon and Lara are going to order pizza. Maybe she could ask Daniela to buy some ingredients. She’d be happy to; she loves doing things for Megan. Plus, she’d be able to have some pizza when she gets back.

She pulls out her phone and texts her. ‘do u love me enough to go to the grocery store and grab some stuff? <3 :)’

Daniela responds almost right away. She has a specific notification for her texts and everything; a little bell. ‘if you send me a selfie of u then yes’

Megan poses and then takes a quick selfie, sending it to Daniela without much thought.

“Did you just take a picture of yourself?” Lara asks.

“Shut up! It’s for Dani.”

“Oh, how romantic!” She teases.

‘i’m convinced. send me the list and i’ll grab everything’

“Is it alright if Dani comes back over?” Megan asks as she begins to make Daniela a list of ingredients. It’s rather specific and she hopes Daniela’s able to get everything. If one thing is wrong everything will come out terribly. “She’ll probably want some pizza.”

“Ew, your girlfriend of two years? Who I’m friends with? Coming over? Again?” She scoffs. “Disgusting!”

Megan rolls her eyes. “You’re so annoying.”

“Why’d you kick her out only to invite her over again?” Lara asks.

Megan doesn’t answer because she honestly doesn’t know.

When Daniela is finally back, Megan checks out everything she got and she surprisingly did everything right. After checking if it’s okay with Manon and Lara she puts all the ingredients away in the kitchen, organizing everything the same way she had back at her mom’s place. By the time she’s finished the pizza has arrived and the four of them sit at the small table that’s in the dining room.

The group talk about a variety of things. College, moving out, how working at the bakery is going for Megan, which has been going well.

Despite how complicated and stressful it was to get to this point in Megan’s life, she’s glad she’s here. Being able to do what she’s passionate about every day brings new meaning to her existence. Having structure is what she needs and being able to be home at a reasonable time has helped her mental health a lot. Not only that, but she’s able to leave work in the workplace and go into a totally different mindset the second she’s home. All in all, she feels like things are finally working out for her.

The topic of Daniela dancing again also came up. This semester she’s rejoined the dance team she was on before. According to her, it’s going well, but she’s rusty. Megan has a hard time believing that; she’s always been a natural. Plus, her definition of ‘rusty’ is a lot different than most people’s.

The second everyone is done eating Manon and Lara disappear into their room, shutting the door behind them. It’s not long before Daniela and Megan do the same; Daniela is going to stay the night since it’s Saturday.

Megan goes to her full length mirror, checking her appearance before pulling her hoodie off; she’s hot. She feels hands wrap around her waist and when she tosses the hoodie to the ground she sees Daniela, who plants a kiss on her cheek.

“Hi,” Megan says, smiling at their reflection. They’re a cute couple.

“Hi.” Another kiss. “You’ve been staring at me all night.” She looks up, a smirk on her lips.

“That’s a lie,” Megan says, putting her hands to Daniela’s arms. Truthfully, she’s always staring at Daniela. She does it without knowing sometimes.

“You’re bad at lying.” Daniela brings her lips to Megan’s neck, sucking gently. She pulls away rather quickly, resting her chin on Megan’s shoulder.

“You’re very confident tonight.” Megan knows exactly what Daniela wants. Her mood tends to be infectious, but Megan’s not in the mood for anything at the moment. Maybe it’s because she’d had a long day or maybe it’s because she’s not comfortable in her new place yet.

All that being said, she doesn’t want to disappoint her needy girlfriend.

“I like the idea of my girlfriend being a few minutes away.” She rocks Megan back and forth, then kisses her neck once more. Her hands grab hold of Megan’s shirt, slowly pulling it up. “I also like the idea of this being off of you.”

“Did you take one of those horny pills?” Megan asks, trying to lighten the mood. She doesn’t want to have to reject Daniela and would much rather her get the idea.

Daniela laughs. “Horny pills?”

“You know.” Megan smirks. “The stuff at Spencer’s that, like, turns you on.”

“You turn me on,” Daniela whispers in her ear. Her hands trace up Megan’s stomach, landing below her breast.

Megan’s breath hitches; she pulls Daniela’s hands down. “I’m so sorry, Dani,” she says, pulling away. “I really wish I was in the mood right now but I’m not. I’m just way too fucking tired.”

“Oh.” Daniela’s expression becomes serious. “I didn’t mean to force you or anything.”

“You didn’t; you stopped.” Megan turns around, cupping Daniela’s face with her hands and kissing her. “Gentlewoman.”

“Only for you,” she says with a grin. “Did I make you uncomfortable?”

“Oh my god, Dani, no!” Megan says, pulling away. “I’m just totally out of it right now. You’re still hot, though. Always.”

“You’re hotter.”

“Can we cuddle instead?” Megan asks, grabbing Daniela’s wrist and dragging her to the bed. “If you’re not too disappointed.”

“Lucky for you,” Daniela begins, wrapping her arms around Megan and falling down on the bed, “I like cuddling just as much as I like fucking you.”

“Did you really have to word it like that?” Megan rests her head on Daniela’s chest, hearing the soft sound of her beating heart.

“Yep.”
