Chapter 1: Mocha Amore

Chapter Text

"Woonhak... Woonhak, wake up!" Jaehyun shoves Woonhak slightly.

He groans. "Huh-? I- What happened?"

"Class is over, come on!" Jaehyun says while picking up his backpack.

Woonhak rubs his eyes, his vision clearing up as he sees his classmates leaving the classroom.

"Oh... okay, sorry."

Woonhak sloppily throws his notebook and laptop into his bag and stands up slowly, grunting on the way up.

"Yo! Can y'all hurry up? I'm hungry!" Sungho shouts to the two of them from the door. His other friends, his best friends, standing beside him.

Woonhak and Jaehyun hurry over to the door and exit with the others.

They've always moved as a pack. Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan, and of course, Woonhak. They've been inseparable since they first met, they even all moved into a house together in the second year of college.

They're walking towards to the parking lot of the school, ready to head home.

"Honestly, I'm kind of hungry..." Riwoo mentions off-hand.

"Now that you mention it- so am I. I haven't ate at all today." Taesan says, putting his hand over his stomach.

"I could go for some food, I've been craving ramen!" Jaehyun adds.

"Me too! I've been dying for some." Leehan piggybacks off of Jaehyun.

"Yeah, ramen sounds nice, but the closest spot is like 25 minutes away." Woonhak says, leading to groans and sighs of disappointment.

The group stands around thinking about where to eat, pondering on what's close by and could fill them up.

Riwoo snaps his fingers. "Why don't we hit up that new cafe that opened a few weeks ago?"

"What new cafe?" Sungho asks.

"It's called Love Shot, Sangwon told me about it. I've been like twice, it's so nice." Riwoo looked at the others. "It's like 5 minutes away?"

The others looked at each other in agreement.

"Is it cheap?" Taesan asked.

"It's a cafe... how expensive can it be?" Riwoo responded jokingly.

As they walked into the cafe, the aroma instantly sent chills down their spines. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and croissants filled the air, light chatter and keyboard typing surrounding the atmosphere.

"Told you it's nice." Riwoo turned his head up towards Leehan.

The boys step further into the cafe, taking in the warmth of the small business.

"I'm getting a Panini!" Sungho said, heading up to the cash register. "Ooh! And a hot chocolate!"

"Wait- make that two!" Leehan said following behind.

Woonhak questioned why they would get hot chocolate for a moment before remembering it's December. He just feels warmer than usual recently so the coldness of Korea and the snow hasn't fully hit him yet.

He follows behind the rest slowly.

Woonhak feels his phone vibrate in his pocket, so he pulls it out and looks down at his phone to see a text from Jaehyun in the group chat.

Jae-Jae: dude woonhak

Woonagi: why are we texting youre literally 3 feet away from me lol

Jae-Jae: yeah well maybe look up and see whos at the cash register dawg

Woonhak looks up and leans around Sungho's wide shoulders and above Riwoo's head straight to the register.

His eyes widen as he see's who's at the front register.

It's Hong Eunchae.

Woonhak swiftly drops his head back down and opens the group chat.

Woonagiwhen the fuck did she start working here???

Blubhan: Who? Eunchae?

Woonagi: duh Eunchae who else is at the front register.

Sing Ho!: Kazuha told me she started working her like when it opened.

Woonhak looked up from his phone in disbelief.

It's not like him and Eunchae were on bad terms even, it's just that they haven't really talked in a while.

Woonhak knows he's at fault, he should've reached out more. Granted, they did see each other around school and said hi a few times but that's about it really, never really a proper conversation in forever.

After the rest of the guys order their food and sit down, it's Woonhaks turn.

"Hello, welcome to Love Shot- Oh. Hi Woonhak." Eunchae said flatly.

Ouch. She's definitely not taking his appearance well.

"Hey Eunchae..." Woonhak responded awkwardly.

"What can I get you?"

"Uh... can I get a-" Woonhak looked up behind Eunchae at the menu. So many items.

"Can I get a croissant and a Mocha Amore?" Woonhak asked.

Eunchae looked down at the IPad and pressed a few buttons.

"With two shots of espresso as well please." He added.

Eunchae chuckled slightly. "Someone's trying to wake up, long night?" She said jokingly as she added the two shots to his order.

Woonhak grinned softly. "If by long night you mean cramming for finals then yes, it was a long night and I went hard."

"I'm sure you did." She looked back up at him. "Alright that's 6.79."

Woonhak fumbled through his wallet and pulled out 7 dollars then proceeded to hand it to her.

Eunchae put the money in the register and pulled out the remaining change. "Here you go."

Woonhak put his hand out, leaning back slightly. "Keep it, it's fine."

"Oh?" Eunchae brought her hand back. "Well aren't you generous?"

Woonhak threw his hands up and laughed quietly as he began to walk away. "Just trying to give back to the poor."

Eunchae's eyes widened as her smile grew wide. "Oh so I'm poor now?"

"Always gotta help those in need!" Woonhak said as he turned around and walked towards the table where the others were sitting, a smile still residing on his face.

Eunchae's gaze lingers a second longer on him before she shakes her head while laughing before turning back to the next customer.

Back at the table, the others debating about god knows what.

"Well someone looks like they don't wanna die anymore." Jaehyun teases.

Woonhak's face turns from a smile to confusion. "Huh?"

"You came over here all giddy as can be after talking to Eunchae." Jaehyun continues, wiggling his fingers in Woonhak's face.

"Man shut up." Woonhak pushes Jaehyun's hands out of his face. "I just ain't talk to her in a minute- it was nice."

"Oh, Woonhak happy as a clam after talking to Eunchae? I'm so sure." Leehan added into the teasing.

Woonhak rolled his eyes, but he can't entirely deny the fact that he was feeling a bit better after talking to her. It's nice to catch up with a friend.

"For Woonhak!" Eunchae calls out.

Woonhak gets up and walks towards the front counter, where Eunchae's standing with his mocha and croissant.

"Here ya' go." She hands the food over to him, their fingers brushing slightly as she passes him his mocha.

"Thanks-" Woonhak looks inside the little paper baggy as sees that there's 2 croissants instead of just one.

"Uh..." He started. "I think you gave me an extra croissant on accident."

"Oh- it wasn't an accident." Eunchae responds quietly while putting a finger up to her lips and winks before walking back to the register.

Woonhak looks back down at the croissants and then back up at Eunchae, whose talking to one of her coworkers. He smiles warmly before returning back to his seat.

"Does uh... does anyone want croissant?" He offers up to the group.

"Me!" Leehan says, taking the croissant out of Woonhak's hand.

"I thought you only got one?" Riwoo asked confused.

"I... uh... I did, but Eunchae... accidentally gave me a second one for free."

The boys pause their conversations and stare at Woonhak.

"...What?" He asks, nervous why all their eyes are suddenly on him.

"She gave you one... for free?" Taesan questioned.

Woonhak simply nodded his head.

The guys simply stared at each other before laughing loudly.

Woonhak flinches back at all the laughter. "What!? What am I missing?"

Jaehyun just shakes his head while laughing and looks back at Woonhak. "Nothing- it's just... a nice thing for her to do."

Woonhak took a beat, staring in confusion before turning in his chair to look back at Eunchae.

Yeah... that is a nice thing for her to do.
