Wishbone

Summary:

Dear Will,

How's California? Is it totally tubular? (Max keeps telling me no one actually says that, but I don't care.) I hope you're doing good though, honest.
The Party's been okay. Honestly, everything has been kind of quiet since you guys have left. Dustin spends all his time hanging out with Steve and that crazy girl Robin. It's mostly been me, Max, and Mike, well when he's not pouting in his room. He really misses you, and El- sorry, Jane. Max is doing alright. She has her good days and her bad ones. I'm mostly trying to keep her company and distracted from everything that happened. I feel super shitty for getting her involved in all this, but she keeps insisting it's not my fault. I think she's actually angry at me because she won't ever actually talk about what happened. It's whatever. This letter isn't supposed to be me venting.
I've started practicing basketball to pass the time and it's not too bad, I think I'm pretty terrible to be honest. Erica keeps laughing at me. That's really it. Write back soon because I'm kind of going stir crazy here without you. (You'd at least tell me I'm okay at basketball.)

Sincerely,
Lucas

Chapter 1: Preface

Chapter Text

Lucas Sinclair is a good friend. He always has been. He's always been the one the Party comes to in times of need. However, after the Byers & Eleven moved to California, he began to feel himself drift further and further from the rest of them. At first, he tries to maintain some semblance of a connection. He writes to Will and El respectively, even calls them once in a blue-moon. But the gap only widens with the start of freshman year. Moreover, he had stopped writing Will. He didn't even mean to, it just sort of happened. Then, he receives a letter on February 4th which causes him to question how good of a friend he truly is. Will writes about what's really been going on in California, and what a mess everything's been since they left... and since Lucas stopped writing. Now knowing how Will really feels, Lucas is left with a choice to make. And he's positive it's the hardest choice he's ever made in his life.
