They thought they were failing her personally.
Mina shook her head, eyes burning.
“You do not owe me compensation for your survival,” Mina said softly.
Shikaku’s gaze sharpened at that. Tsunade’s eyes narrowed slightly, attentive.
Mina continued anyway, because it needed to be said.
“I am not your judge,” Mina said. “I am not the person you have to apologise to for making it out of there alive.”
Her voice softened.
“I am grateful you are alive,” Mina said, and now her gaze moved across them again, deliberate. “Because if you had died, that would have been failure. Not yours. Mine. Every adult in this village who let children carry the weight of adult monsters."
Shizune made a small sound, hand rising to her mouth. Tsunade’s jaw tightened.
Kakashi’s visible eye closed briefly, like the words hit something deep.
