Work Text:
Sweat dripped down Mizi’s chin as she looked out to the artificial sky. She was 17 now, and had feelings for her fellow Alien Stage singer, Sua. She had for a long time now, but was too much of a coward to say anything, lest it change the way things were. Sua’s was the best part of this rotten place; she couldn’t afford to lose her. And yet, there was budding hope inside her chest. It grew day by day, longing to swallow her whole and lose herself in that high. She had a bouquet in her chest, and every flower represented the love she has for Sua. Her universe, her God, her everything.
Mizi started walking through the hills, looking at the rest of the teenagers lounging around in the grass. She was unaware that in a few years, all of these people would be dead. She looked around, noticing Till and Ivan sitting not too far from where she was walking. Smiling, she changed course, prolonging her confession further.
“Hey losers! What’s up?” Mizi butt in cheerfully.
“I’m not a loser…” Till scowled, but with a lightness in his face that came from Mizi, while Ivan greeted her.
“Nothing much, we were just practicing some lyrics, seeing how they fit. What’s up with you-?” Ivan asked back.
At this, Mizi froze, finding a pink blush spread across her cheeks.
“N-nothing! Just.. off to see Sua, is all! Nothing weird! Okay bye–” Mizi ran off after finishing her sentence, too embarrassed to face the both of them. Ivan and Till looked at each puzzlingly before shrugging and going back to their song.
Mizi ran through Anakt Garden. She stumbled through the hills, trying to cool the heat from her face. Of course, at this moment, Sua finds her and surprises Mizi with a hug from behind. This does not help. Mizi yelped, turning herself slightly to see delicately trimmed black hair. She wasn’t ready yet, but she’d have to be now that Sua was here.
“Mizi! I was looking everywhere for you!”
“You were…?” Mizi was baffled.
“Of course! Sit down, please.” At Sua’s command, Mizi sat with her, and she placed a red clematis crown on Mizi’s head. The petals were vibrant and soft, glowing even against Mizi’s pink hair. The girl never thought of herself to be a queen of anything, yet the love of her life had just crowned her. She’d have to accept, if only to be a ruler of Sua’s heart. The flowers themselves felt so familiar. She almost couldn’t place it until…
“These are the same as from our childhood… Sua..” Mizi started to tear up, and Sua held both of her hands with her own.
“They are. Do you like it?” Sua simply smiled; that damn smile, Sua could kill with just a glance.
Mizi only nodded, rubbing her eyes under her glasses with a whimper. Sua wrapped her arms around the girl again, and for a few moments, it was just them. Mizi and Sua and love.
“Sua… it’s beautiful, just like you.” Mizi smiled, pulling back to place a hand on Sua’s right cheek. Sua’s breath hitched, her red glow bright against her pale skin.
“Oh.. thank you, Mizi. You’re even more beautiful.”
“There’s more.. I-I have no idea how to say this, haha!” Mizi laughed awkwardly, fidgeting with Sua’s fingers. It was a habit she started to develop, and Sua just went with it.
She took a deep breath, returning Sua’s gaze with passionate intent.
“Ever since we were kids, I knew you were pretty. Everyone knew it, but that’s not the reason that I- well, I just love the way you smile, I love when you mess with your feet, I love the jokes you tell and the quiet moments and how I can trust you with everything and you’d never tell a soul! You’re so wonderful and so humble about it!! Sua… I love you!"
And there it was. Out in the open, a beating heart, ready to be smashed into tiny glass shards if Sua willed it. Sua paused, dipping her head, and Mizi feared the worst. Then she laughed, so joyful and extraordinary. Mizi’s sadness turned to confusion as she moved her own hands to grab Sua’s shoulders as she continued to giggle.
“Why.. Why are you laughing-? Do you not love me too?” Mizi questioned, the hurt evident in her eyes.
“Hahahaha… No, Mizi! I love you, I love you so much!” Sua confessed, and Mizi was shocked, still as she let go of the breath she held. As the lights flicked on in her brain, a huge smile grew on her face, and she immediately melted into Sua’s arms.
“Hahah, you scared me!!!” Mizi complained happily
“I’m sorry.. Ah, it’s just that, well, I’ve loved you for so long! With this flowercrown, I was gonna confess to you, Mizi-!”
Hearing this, Mizi burst into giggles, hugging Sua tighter and tighter, her laughter turning into wheezing as she tried to control herself. The girls were a clump of laughter and love, relishing all of this time to themselves.
“I’m just so happy you feel the same..” Mizi said softly, rubbing on Sua’s arm with her pointer finger.
“And I, you, love.” Sua caressed Mizi’s hair as she responded.
The night turned late, with only artificial bugs chirping in the night. Mizi and Sua were the only ones out; they glanced at their lover, LED lights bathing the both of them in a pale glow. Cupping each other’s faces, they kissed, enveloping the other in gentle warmth. Their vines twisted with each other, bulbs spreading their petals and searching for that warmth. In their blooming youth, they found each other. It may be hell, but they are a small patch of flowers looking up towards heaven, forsaking their gods for their love and their love alone.
