Chapter Text
His darling fledgling was making himself right at home, settling into the castle with ease.
Honestly he thought it would take more convincing to get him to agree to stay with him, but all he did was mention that Shelby and Drift could visit and Avid was already planning out his own room.
This was how things should be, just him and his fledglings (he would get Shelby soon enough… maybe he would even ask her this time. They had been upset about that before).
Building up the castle by himself took less time than he had expected. Having a clear plan for it fresh in his memories helped. It was oddly quiet without Shelby's chatter and the other vampires'… existence, but not lonely. Scott Goldsmith does not get lonely.
Still, it's a relief to have Avid around. His fledgling is excitable, more so than he ever remembers seeing him. Without the fear and the pain he seems almost child-like, immature. Scott wants to show him the world, he'd have to be careful to make sure his Avid didn't try to bring back some odd creature again but he was certain he could convince him to leave them be.
With a hum, he pulls out what he was looking for. It's a little dusty, but no worse for wear. Exactly as he had seen it mere weeks ago, in a time that no longer existed. He found his burning rose in his new room, greeting him with his usual enthusiasm. Scott just smiled in response, coming up to him. He carefully draped the fabric around his fledgling's neck, clasping the gold buckle in front. Avid just watched him curiously, blindly trusting him as always "What's this?" he asked.
Scott looked over the outfit appraisingly "One of my old cloaks" he revealed "I thought it might suit you more".
Avid took a curious sniff, eyes dilated adorably at the scent "This is blood!" He realised excitedly.
His sire huffs a laugh "Yes, I thought you would like it" he says. I knew you would. You did before.
"I love it!" Avid cheered, lunging forward to wrap his arms around him in a tight hug. Scott loosely held him back, still unused to physical affection like this. Avid leaned out of the embrace slightly "Thank you" he said sincerely, leaning up to press their lips together. Scott grabbed the back of his fledgling's head when he tried to move away, coaxing him into a longer kiss.
Avid's eyes were twinkling when they separated, the gleaming red pooling with adoration, revering Scott like he was his whole world.
Yes, this was how things should be.
