Chapter Text
When the moon revolution happened Mars and Venus left Earth alone for the simple reason that they hated how egocentric and narcissistic Earth's personality was. They weren't aware of the fact that Earth was struggling after they left him. They didn't know that Earth tried to kill himself by throwing himself into the sun.
But after the moon revolution happened, after Earth and Titan made amends with each other, Earth seemed fine. He actually changed for the better you could say.
But one day when Mars wanted to talk with earth, maybe even play asteroid dodgeball, when he came to earth's orbit he only saw his moon. Luna or what Mars always called him, Earth's moon. Luna was sleeping in his orbit unaware of the fact his planet wasn't here.
„Uhh...Earth's moon? You awake?" Mars asked, knowing that Luna was indeed asleep but still asked in hope of him waking up.
„Huh...Mars? What are you doing here? And for the 100th time it's Lu-„ before he could complete his sentence Mars quickly cut him off.
„I wanted to talk with Earth and maybe even okay asteroid dodgeball with him but uh, he isn't here?? Did he perhaps go hang out with someone?" Mars questioned curiously.
„He didn't? The last time I saw him was before I went to sleep, he was by my side till I actually fell asleep. I thought this whole time he was here by my side?" Luna responded worried. What if Earth was doing something stupid again? What if Earth was doing something that may harm him?
„I think mercury could maybe help us. He know's Earth well and maybe knows where Earth may have gone off to." Luna continued. He sounded so worried that it made Mars question Luna's behavior. Why was he that worried? Earth could have just went somewhere a little farther away from us.
„...yeah sure. Let's go." Mars kept his answer short already suspicious of Luna's behavior. He had now decided to confront Luna when they arrived but before that he would see if mercury somehow also had his part in this.
When they were heading towards Mercury, Mars couldn't help but notice how stressed and worried Luna was. Too worried. Too stressed. A simple situation like this shouldn't be that stressful right? Earth could be just on the other side of the sun too, can't he?
After a while both of them arrived. Luna quickly came up to Mercury and whispered something in his ear which made now Mercury look worried. „Something's up" Mars thought to himself. He then decided to confront them both.
„Okay can you two explain to me at least what's going on? You two seem really worried! Couldn't Earth just be on the other side of the sun? Why is it that worrying to you two?" Mars demanded answers. Luna looked at Mercury who gave a simple nod in response.
„There's something that we haven't told anyone yet. Earth, when he was left alone he wasn't in his right mind you could say. He was just...off, you know?" Luna explained and continued.
„I left him alone for a while to talk with mercury about why he is like this...he seemed so depressed. He even told me he didn't deserve me! Crazy right? But yeah...after we left him he tried...he uhm....tried to kill himself by throwing himself into the sun." Luna stated, sounding uncomfortable having to tell that.
Mars stood there in shock and disbelief. He wondered to himself, „I'm supposed to be his best friend and I couldn't help him on his lowest point in life?". Mars felt like he was the worst person in the world. Mercury then broke the uncomfortable silence.
„Mars just- just remember that it is not your fault. It wasn't your fault at all. Let's just be happy he didn't do it in the end" Mercury assured his friend who looked like he was about to break down in front of them.
Mars just looked at Mercury and nodded. Mercury sighed a sigh of relief glad that He didn't have to calm Mars down even more. Mercury then spoke up again.
„But let's focus on finding Earth Since it is our first priority right now and because you two came to me because of that!" Mercury reminded them both which made Luna and Mars aware of what they came to Mercury with.
Then they all started heading to Earth's orbit to look for him. They asked Venus on the way to look around and see if he had spotted Earth somewhere.
After what felt like eternity of searching they finally decided to ask Jupiter to help them find Earth, since they couldn't find him, Venus also told them he couldn't spot Earth anywhere.
Mars was the one who decided to ask Jupiter for help in finding his best friend, so Mars then came to the asteroid belt and Spoke up.
„Hey Jupiter? Could you come here and chat with me for a bit? It's serious." Mars asked Jupiter who looked up from his book.
„Yeah what's up Mars? Something happened?" Jupiter responded looking curious. He then put down his book and got closer to the asteroid belt.
„Well it's about the Earth..." Mars began. Jupiter looked like he knew what Mars was gonna say, even though it wasn't about Earth being narcissistic or egoistic.
„He's...gone. Me, mercury and Luna can't find him. We already asked Venus to search his orbit for Earth but he told us he couldn't find him. And we were wondering if you could maybe help us?" Mars asked. Jupiter looked surprised and confused, but at the same time worried.
„Gone? I hope he isn't around the orbits of the ice giants then...his life will freeze up and die. But I'll do ask Saturn to get this message to the ice giants so they could also search the area. But if they won't find him I'll just talk to the sun about this." Jupiter responded sounding serious. He knew this wasnt some kind of a sick joke, at least he hoped it wasn't.
Mars just nodded and went back to his own orbit. Luna and mercury already went back to their orbits after they discussed who would ask Jupiter for help.
Mars just looked into the deep vacuum of space filled with galaxies, stars, and so many planets. There are so much galaxies, stars and planets yet they're still oh so far away.
Mars then decided to just go sleep his stress off. It was better than having to stay awake and deal with all the stress of Earth being missing and possibly even dead. He wished that his best friend wasn't dead. What would he do in that situation?
Mars then slowly drifted off to sleep still wondering if he will see his best friend once again. He wished that before Earth went missing that he just at least hugged him one more time. Held him one more time.
But his thoughts all came to an end when he succeeded in falling asleep. His thoughts were then replaced by his sweet dreams he loved. They were always oh so peaceful and comfortable. That's why he loved them.
But he loved them even more when Earth was in them. When they were playing together, playing asteroid dodgeball. He swore he always felt his heart race and melt whenever he got his eyes on him. His face would BUTN up to the point his face was all red. He would become awkward and nervous around him. But that's what Best friend's feel, right?
he couldn’t think too much of it since he was already too tired. He felt as happy as he could be seeing Earth okay here.
they were in a field that only had grass, it seemed to go on forever. But Earth was standing under a willow tree waving and smiling.
mars began smilling too, starting to run in Earth’s direction. He wanted to hold him. To know he was okay. To know he wasn’t dead.
finally Mars arrived and literally jumped on Earth, making them both fall on the ground with a thud.
Mars was on top of earth laughing, while Earth was under him laughing along with his best friend.
soon Mars finally stood up to walk to the pine of the willow tree and sit down, leaning into it. Earth soon followed, sitting next to mars. They sat under the willow tree enjoying he moment until Mars spoke up.
”Earth…I need to ask you something— it’s important.” Mars asked, his eyes starting to sadden, and his whole happy mood suddenly disappearing and getting replaced with sorrow.
„Yeah? Did— did something happen? Are you upset at someone?” Earth replied, eyes widening with worry, his smile fading into a worried frown.
”no— no! It’s not that! It’s mostly— uhm…about you…” mars choked out, looking at the grass, unable to face his best friend.
”about— me? Did I mess up? Tell me what happened! I don’t want to hurt you— not again…” He desperately choked out, He knew he had made Mars feel hurt in the past, and he didn’t want it to happen again.
Mars looked over at Earth, who was visibly sweating and looking like he just committed the worst crime a planet could have committed. Finally Mars had the courage to speak up.
”I know this is a dream. I figured it halfway through, but…where are you? You disappeared without a trace. I’m worried Earth. I’m so fucking worried. I don’t want to lose you.” Mars begged for an answer, an explanation from his best friend regarding his disappearance.
Earth seemed surprised by Mars figuring it out but quickly looked away before sighing.
”I don’t have a clear answer Mars. Heh— I’m not even real here— I was made by your brain to comfort you. The only answer I have is that he isn’t dead. No matter what they say— he ISNT dead.” Earth said in response, his wings twitching slightly, clearly a bit distressed.
the answer made him confused. What could he possibly mean by what he said? He wanted to ask more but suddenly the peaceful field they were sitting in began cracking, shaking.
and so did Earth. He smiled through it before exploding into nothing. Mars screamed in despair, he knew this was a dream but he hated when he thought about earth dying, let alone exploding right Here in front of him.
he cried out for his best friend before the whole world collapsed swallowing him too. He was falling into the void which had nothing but darkness. When he thought he would hit the ground he finally woke up.
he grabbed the collar of his shirt, at the verge of tears. He wanted to call Earth. Just like he always did to ease up the stress after a bad nightmare but he was missing.
Mars could just quietly cry into his shirt, no blue light slowly appearing by his side to comfort him. No comforting words that would immediately calm him down. No jokes that would lighten up the atmosphere. Nothing. It was only him and the dark vastness of space, and the other sleeping planets far away from him.
Mars had never actually paid attention to how big of a role Earth played in his life. Thanks to Earth he had someone to trust. He loved earth, platonically. But sometimes he even questioned it. But now with Earth nowhere to be found, he could just sob.
he just has to resort to imagining Earth being here by his side comforting him, telling those awful yet funny jokes, his comforting presence. But even that didn’t help because he couldn’t feel those warm arms wrapping around his body in a comforting manner.
he slowly began drifting off to sleep once again, crying himself to sleep. This time he had no dream, simply for the reason he now didn’t remember it. But one thing was clear.
he missed him deeply.
