“What the hell are you doing?”
Eddie sounded furious as he charged across the patio and Buck groaned to himself. He barely had time to open his mouth before Eddie had knocked the hose from his hands and slammed the grill shut.
“I had it under control,” Buck said, and from the way Eddie’s face flushed redder, that was absolutely the wrong thing to say. Even if it was true.
He’d been having a great day off, even with his boyfriends out of the house. Tommy was on his last shift before his 48 off and Eddie was chaperoning a field trip to start theirs, so Buck got to tidy things up his way, get an undistracted workout in, and have time to try some new recipes.
It was the perfect kind of day to be outside, so he decided to try grilling a new dessert, too. And that’s where things took a turn.
He was a firefighter, it was his damned job to know how to put out a grease fire. Smother it. They had multiple fire extinguishers around the house and by the grill if needed after that. He had told countless people to never use water.
But today, the flames refused to be smothered. He’d pop open the lid and it’d just flare back up. It was small, but stubborn.
He could use the extinguisher, clean the rack, clean the body and grease trap, which apparently none of them had done for a while. But then there wouldn’t be time to finish dessert.
So he’d decided to try the hose in a controlled way. He wouldn’t let it splatter or spread, he was ready to slam the lid down again if it started. And he was pretty sure the fire had gone out entirely just as Eddie saw what he was doing.
Of course.
He tried to explain that, but Eddie wouldn’t have any of it.
“Of all the stupid fucking things I’ve ever seen you do,” he said, incensed. “I can’t even–Buck, I am so–” He shook his head. “Go put your face against the wall,” he said. “I need a break before we deal with this.”
Buck bit his lip. “Uh, what-what wall?” he asked. This was really not looking good for his ass. Or dessert.
Eddie pointed towards the house. “Right there. We don’t have a corner out here, but the siding will do just fine.”
Buck glanced around, and Eddie smacked his ass, hard.
“Now,” he said so firmly that Buck took off, and hoped like hell the neighbors weren’t home. He knew there was a week coming where they were on vacation, and he’d really like it if it was this one.
Eddie smacked him one more time as he passed to go inside, and Buck yelped, rising up on to his toes.
If he’d just tried dousing it from the start, instead of trying to smother it the last few times, he could have been finished grilling when Eddie got home. He’d been so close.
Arms flung around him and he jumped as Eddie squeezed him in a tight hug. “I can’t believe you were so stupid,” he said, which wasn’t really fair. “You scared the hell out of me, don’t do that.”
Buck turned and hugged him back. That he felt bad about. “I’m sorry,” he said sincerely.
Eddie held him a moment longer and let go with a kiss. “Good. Now turn back around.”
Buck turned and slumped against the wall, fully expecting the harsh swat that landed as Eddie went back inside. He glanced through the glass door. Eddie had his back to him, so he reached back and rubbed at the stinging ache.
“Hands down,” Eddie called and Buck made a face as he obeyed.
He could hear Eddie moving around a little, sometimes fading as he went deeper into the house and came back close again. Nerves started to pool in his belly. He knew he’d had it under control—but anything with fire was risky. They had all agreed to keep each other accountable for staying safe to the best of their ability, and he could see how Eddie would be upset just walking in on it like that.
“Face the wall,” Eddie said sternly as the door closed behind him.
Buck twisted back, realizing he’d gone past listening for Eddie and had turned towards the door. Eddie was moving things behind him, and his toes tapped anxiously as he wondered what he was doing.
“Okay, come over here,” Eddie finally said, and Buck turned in relief. He hated corner time, even if it was just a wall. But then he saw what Eddie had gathered.
“Uh, what’s all that for?” he asked. He was unquestionably moving towards Eddie, but as slowly as he could.
Eddie held up the hose. “Water doesn’t always help, which I didn’t think you needed to be reminded of, but here we are.” He held up their bamboo grill brush, and Buck’s stomach dropped. “And this is going to remind you of what you should do next time, and what you will be doing soon. Stop stalling, and come here.”
Buck glanced at the door. “Out here?” he asked.
“This is where you fucked up, this is where you pay the price,” Eddie said. “I’m not going to tell you again, so get over here before I have to get you.”
That got Buck moving, because one time was enough.
“Thank you,” Eddie said. “Pants down, over my lap.”
Buck slowly slid his joggers down. “Are the neighbors gone this week?” he asked hopefully.
“Yes,” Eddie said, helping him as he leaned down. “No one can see you except me. Whether anyone hears you is up to you.”
“R-right,” he said. He wasn’t exactly known for being stoic, but he was going to try his hardest.
“So why are we here, Buck?” Eddie asked, smoothing his hand over Buck’s bare ass.
Buck hesitated. He knew what Eddie wanted to hear. “I took a risk with the grill and it scared you,” he said. That covered it nicely.
Eddie landed half a dozen smacks on his thighs and Buck tried to swallow his gasp as he kicked out. Eddie had never started on his thighs or without a warning before.
“You took a risk?” Eddie asked. “Is that what you’re going with?”
“I had it–” Buck began, but cut himself off when water suddenly sprayed on his ass. “Eddie, what the hell?” He twisted around to look.
Eddie held the hose in his hand, grimly squeezing the nozzle over his ass and thighs. Buck twitched as it uncomfortably dripped down his skin. “You used water, I’m using water,” he said.
After one last blast from the hose, Eddie set it down and immediately started spanking Buck. The rhythmic swats landed hard and sharp and loud, and he almost jumped out of his skin as he yelped. It hurt, it hurt so much more than Eddie’s hand ever had, and the noise!
Each crack rang out and Buck couldn’t keep still. He squirmed, trying to avoid Eddie’s hand, but it was impossible. Eddie had no problem keeping him where he wanted him, not missing a single beat. He rained swats up and down Buck’s ass and his thighs, the sting igniting into a burn. Buck forgot about trying to keep quiet, gasping and groaning as it kept building.
After what felt like an eternity, Eddie stopped. Buck tried to catch his breath, his face feeling as hot as his ass.
“So, is this water making your punishment better?” Eddie asked.
“No!” Buck said, his voice shaking a little. “What the–the hell, Eddie?”
“How many grill fires have we seen?” Eddie asked. “One moment and the grass is on fire, the trees, the house. People. One gust of wind, one look away. Is that an acceptable risk?”
Buck wanted to say yes. He had experience! He’d had it under control.
But he couldn’t get it out. Because fire didn’t care how experienced you were.
“No!” he cried out as Eddie started spraying him again. His skin had dried under Eddie’s onslaught, but now the cool water dripped and slid back down, wetting him all over again. “Eddie, no!”
“No, it’s not an acceptable risk?” Eddie asked. “Or no, you don’t want to keep getting spanked wet? Because only one of those is the right answer.”
“Not-not acceptable,” Buck said unevenly. “But no more water, please, Eddie.”
Eddie turned the water off, but patted Buck’s ass. “We’re not done yet, mi vida. You’re damn straight it wasn’t an acceptable risk, and I can’t even believe we have to have this conversation. I’ll be damned if we ever have to again.”
Without warning, he started spanking again, harder and faster than before. Buck tried to cross his ankles to keep his legs from kicking out as Eddie focused on his thighs and the undercurve of his ass. Tears were swimming in his eyes as the stinging pain bloomed under Eddie’s hand. Buck was no stranger to being spanked, but he never ever wanted water involved again.
Eddie landed two heavy swats to his sit spots and Buck jerked hard, biting his lip to avoid crying out.
“Well, this is sure one hell of a welcome home,” Tommy said.
Buck blinked away tears and turned his head. Tommy had his arms folded across his chest, eyebrows raised as he leaned against the door.
“Hey, babe,” Eddie said, tilting his face for a kiss.
Tommy stepped over and obliged. He crouched down and rested a hand on Buck’s ass. “So what happened here?”
Buck winced at the weight and warmth, and squeezed his eyes closed. Tommy was definitely going to have something to say about this, too.
“Someone decided to put out a grease fire on the grill with the garden hose,” Eddie said.
“Evan!” Tommy said, shocked. “What on earth–what were you thinking?”
“I wanted to make dessert,” Buck said miserably. “It wouldn’t go out so I was being careful!” His voice rose as Tommy smacked his hand down hard. “I shouldn’t have done it!” he yelped.
“I can’t believe you would do something so incredibly foolish,” Tommy said. He sounded disappointed, and Buck’s stomach twisted. “Any firefighter, but you of all people. You put yourself, the house, and the neighborhood at risk, for dessert?”
“I really did think I was making it as safe as I could,” Buck said. Tears leaked and he jerked and cried out when they both swatted down hard at that. “But I-I know I shouldn’t have, it wasn’t safe.” He sniffled. What the hell had he been thinking? He would have yelled at anyone else who tried it.
“Want to finish us off?” Eddie asked.
“Absolutely,” Tommy said. He sat next to Eddie and Buck was shifted so that his chest was draped over Eddie’s lap and his ass on Tommy’s.
Tommy rubbed his back and Eddie ran his fingers through Buck’s curls as they talked softly above him. Now that the tears had started, Buck couldn’t stop them. He sniffled and breathed shakily as he took the comfort while it lasted.
“All right, Evan,” Tommy said, patting his ass. “Twenty with the brush.”
Buck heard the hose being picked up before he felt the spray again. “No,” he moaned, trying to pull away. “Please.”
“You’re the one who thought water was a good idea, sweetheart,” Tommy said. “We’re just following your lead.” But he kept rubbing Buck’s back, and didn’t spray as long as Eddie had.
Tommy tapped the back of the grill brush on Buck’s ass and he immediately tensed up. That thing was like a thick block of wood, way worse than their paddles.
“Relax, Evan,” Tommy reminded him, and he tried to unclench. “Why are we spanking you today?”
“Because I-I did something dangerous,” Buck said, squeezing his eyes closed as he waited for the brush to fall.
“And?” Tommy asked.
“And what?” Buck said, confused. Had he done anything else today? He could feel the weight of their gazes as he tried to remember, and–oh, Eddie had stopped combing his fingers through his hair. “I scared Eddie.”
“You did,” Tommy agreed. “Anything else?”
He couldn’t think of anything, but he couldn’t really think of anything beyond his burning ass and thighs right then. “Uh, no?”
Tommy clicked his tongue. “I think you’re missing one,” he said. “See if you can tell me after ten.”
The brush landed with a loud smack and Buck’s back arched with the shock of it. The next, equally hard, landed before he could wail out, and they just kept coming from there.
He couldn’t think, how could Tommy expect him to think? His mind was a whirl until Tommy snapped the brush down on one thigh and then the other, and he collapsed into sobs.
“That was ten, baby,” Tommy said gently, rubbing at his back.
Eddie was scratching gently at his scalp again, and Buck tried to get his shuddering breaths under control.
“Do you remember why we’re doing this?” Eddie asked.
Buck whimpered. He couldn’t, and he couldn’t stand the idea of needing any more punishment after the brush.
“It’s okay, Evan,” Tommy said. “We’ll help you. You did something dangerous,” he prompted.
Buck tried to nod. “Stupid,” he tried to say, but it came out kind of garbled. “Foolish.”
“Yep. So what would have happened if I hadn’t come home?” Eddie asked.
Buck still wasn’t sure what they wanted him to say, and shook his head.
“If your precautions had failed and the fire jumped, what would have happened?” Tommy asked. “To you.”
“H-hurt,” Buck said, realizing. “I could have gotten hurt.”
“That’s right,” Tommy said.
“And our rule is?” Eddie asked.
“Take care of ourselves. No extra risks. Stay safe,” Buck managed.
“Good job, sweetheart,” Tommy said, and Eddie agreed. “You did something dangerous, and put yourself at risk. And what happens when you do that?”
“I get sp-spanked,” Buck said. “Please–no water?” he begged
“No more water,” Eddie agreed, which somehow made Buck want to cry even more in relief.
“Ten more, and your spanking will be over,” Tommy said, rubbing the cool wood of the brush on his ass.
Buck barely even twitched; he just laid there, crying, waiting to get it over with.
Tommy laid the last ten down quickly, alternating cheeks without pause. He set the brush aside as Buck let himself go limp across his boyfriends.
“Good job, baby,” Eddie said, pressing a kiss to his hair.
Eddie and Tommy continued petting him and murmuring praise as Buck cried, letting their words wash over him. When he was ready, Tommy helped him kick off his joggers and get settled in his lap. Buck snuggled in, Tommy’s arms wrapped around him in a hug, and reached out his hand for Eddie to take while his breathing returned to normal.
“Tissue,” Eddie said, handing some over.
Buck wiped at his eyes and his nose, making a face. He hated getting snotty.
“No more playing with fire, right?” Eddie asked, squeezing his hand.
“Never,” Buck said quickly. God, what had he even been thinking? If this got out at the 118, he’d never hear the end of it.
“Glad to hear it,” Tommy said, kissing his cheek. “We all do dumb things sometimes. It’s over now.”
“Yeah,” Buck agreed, and sighed. “Mmm. I need to get dinner going,” he said reluctantly.
“Yeah, I think we’re going to do takeout tonight,” Eddie said, trading a look with Tommy. “Pizza and a movie?”
“I already–” Buck started, but Tommy gave him a squeeze.
“It’ll keep,” he said. “And after you clean the grill tomorrow, you can try the dessert, too.”
Buck had a feeling they would feel better keeping him away from flames right then, which, fine. That was fair. “Yeah, okay,” he agreed. “Can we stay here for a while, though?”
“Sure, Buck,” Eddie said. He’d let go of Buck to pull out his phone, but put it back in his pocket to take his hand again. “As long as you want.”
Buck closed his eyes, letting his boyfriends chat over him again. It had been a fucking terrible way to start their time off together, he couldn’t begin to guess when the throbbing and ache would settle, but it had been dealt with. They still had the whole night and next day to spend with each other, and he loved when they were all off together.
And the dessert was going to be fantastic.
