okay seriously i love this i love it when he intends to use her for something snd constantly flirts but ends up falling for her instead and i love how genuinely sweet he is at the end
I have to snap out of it, was the one coherent thought Lyney’s brain was capable of forming in that moment.
Unfortunately, she was upon him before he could do just that.
“What?” She folded her arms, eyebrow raised in judgment. “Nothing to say? I’ll have you know I spent the whole carriage ride here coming up with responses to your witty remarks. I’d hate to see my efforts wasted.”
“You’re breathtaking,” Lyney blurted.
Mona blinked. “Huh?”
“I mean,” he quickly saved himself, forcing that practised smile of his to return. “You look exquisite tonight, Miss Megistus. And I agree—to have the efforts of a woman like yourself wasted is a terrible thing. I’ll have you know I’ve been thinking of wittier remarks, so you don’t need to worry about that.”
She shook her head, amused—maybe even fond.
