[Ca’senaar fully intended on living. A dozen conversations back home about what you’d do in an isekai had solidified that. Keep your head down, avoid as much of the main plot as you can (nasty, uncomfortable things, main plots - make you late to dinner!) and live life to the fullest.]

[“Our battles, our history, and our blood all live on within the beskar. You honor the past by learning from it, and by learning, the past protects you as this armor will.”

The woman hummed quietly as she took the pauldron, her eyes soft and almost distant, like she looked through the metal in her hands. Blowing out a slow and steady breath, she looked up from the armor at Verca and placed a fist above her sternum in salute.

“I am honored by our history for the wisdom I receive,” she said, the words of this old and little-used ritual coming easy to her. Verca gaped behind her buy’ce and wondered where a woman from Wild Space had learned these words. “I am honored by our people for the history that I receive. I am honored by my soul, for the people I receive.”

Verca smiled, she did like that way of phrasing it, even if it was a bit archaic. Of course, the full version of the ancient ritual involved the recipient studying the records until they could recite at least five hundred years of provenance, which wouldn’t be possible, but it was still strangely sweet that Ca’senaar had gone out of her way to learn this part.]

[“Ah,” Iviivian said, glancing away. “First time they came by, well, I was running with ‘treat it like an active shooter lockdown.’ Which for me, included a mantra of ‘Keep going, move along. No one here, no one at all. Just empty space, not worth checking. Nothing to see, nothing to hear. Move along, you don’t want to waste your time here.’ Which worked, a little too well. They didn’t give us rations that time. So, I switched to ‘Just obedient merchandise, no need to bother them. No problems with this cage,’ and that…seemed to work without costing the children their rations?”

“Most people had no better way to protect the children than to throw their bodies between danger and child. You were more skilled than that. You made it so the slavers didn’t even think of your charges to harm. I tried to figure it out on the ship, but I never could. I will have to practice using mantras and the Force together.”

“If I’d had to stand between the children and danger, I would have, but it seemed easier to simply make them overlook us if I could. I didn’t actually expect it to work that first time, but…a lot of things got a good deal stronger once we were off-planet. I tried to…to push it, a bit, at first. Once I realized it seemed to be working, at least. I ended up feeling dizzy pretty quickly, and had to pull back, I couldn’t seem to stretch much further than my immediate area.” Iviivian nibbled her lip for a moment. “I may have to practice, and see if I can improve the area of effect under less fraught circumstances.”]

[“Bed,” she said, with feeling. “And no kids until morning. Unless they just want cuddles. Cat rules, they can stay if they don’t kick or bite and just want snuggles.” She nodded as though that made perfect sense.]

[Kih’dabe was great. Compact enough to be easily walkable, a million things to look at and do, friendly people.

    Friendly, terribly adoption-happy people.

“Remember kids, Fae Rules,” she reminded her ade before they went out for a short trip to the nearest shops. They were practicing their Mando’a whenever they went out, but there wasn’t a good word for the Fae, so that part she said in English. “Do not give anyone your name, do not let the little kids give their names, and be careful with the food. It may not trap you for a hundred years, but until you know how to identify spices here you may burn your mouths, noses, or throats. Besides, I’m pretty sure Angeline wants to be the one to feed you as often as she can.”

“Did you seriously just compare the Mandos to the Fae?” Adenn asked with a gasping laugh.

“You can’t know someone’s name as your child if you don’t know their name,” Ca’senaar defended as they turned on to the main road.]

[I was raised on ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ and ‘use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without’ so I’m keeping them.”]

[She understood why Ahsoka used the code name Fulcrum. The Light Side made for a great lever if you were willing to let it use you to move the world.]

[“They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds,” someone sang softly in Mando’a. She thought it was one of her kids, but she didn’t slow down.]

[He’d about died laughing when after calling the Duchess a bitch, Sera had deadpanned that ‘bitches fought for their young, so don’t insult them that way’.]
