    Summary

Forced to fake it. Bound to break it.

When Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley are magically bound to play the part of star-crossed lovers, it’s not for romance—it’s for survival. Under orders from the Ministry and shadowed by Rita Skeeter’s quill, they must convince the world their fabricated love is real… or watch their fathers rot in Azkaban.

As the public swoons over their "perfect" relationship, Hogwarts fractures—half buying into the illusion, half crying fraud. Behind the headlines and staged smiles, Draco and Ron can barely stand each other. Draco follows the script. Ron wants nothing to do with it.

But the longer they pretend, the blurrier the line between performance and reality becomes.

And Harry can’t help but ask: When does the lie become the truth?

“He seems like the type who’d want to experiment, if only for the sake of keeping an even tighter hold on your leash.”

“What is your obsession with leashes, Malfoy?” Ron taunted, falling back onto the use of Draco’s last name ironically.

“Well,” Draco said, tilting his head and raising an eyebrow, “I think we’ve already established my thing for ownership-”

    “Clearly,” Ron said wryly.

“So,” Draco continued over him, “Currently my only issue is that I don’t think I fully have one on you yet.”

Again, Ron rolled his eyes. But he didn’t argue. In fact, he just gave Draco a once over and then took a step to the right. “No,” he said, “You don’t. And I have a practice to get to-”

Draco matched his step and reached out to grab his arm. He’d moved too quickly. Ron flinched just slightly before he relaxed.

“Breathe,” Draco whispered, his heart getting a nervous flutter, “Just smile.” And Ron did. The same way he had all day when Draco told him to. He could smile nervously, he could smile flirtatiously, he could smile in amusement, he could smile and look irritated all at once. He was so good at all these offhanded smiles that Draco sometimes had to believe that they weren’t all fake, even if perfectly on cue.

“Sorry,” Ron said quietly. He smoothly dropped his arm from Draco’s grip and slid his hand into his fingers. Draco could still feel his pulse racing.
