Work Text:
Really it was just a fluke. Wild hadn’t meant to bash into a cliff face. And honestly, he is perfectly fine , thank you very much Twilight! He is perhaps a tad winded and a little (very) bruised all over his back but there would be no permanent damage. Certainly nothing that can’t be fixed with a hearty dinner and good night's sleep.
So needless to say, Wild is completely baffled as to why his brothers are utterly losing their minds.
“I mean maybe it just has to do with him getting resurrected? He isn’t showing signs of concussion and I can’t find evidence of any internal bleeding. But I can’t figure out any reason why the potion wouldn’t have worked!” The poor captain looks like he is about two seconds away from pulling all his hair out while stress rambling (not so quietly) to Time.
“I’m not dying, you know!” Wild calls out across the clearing. Honestly this is getting ridiculous! He isn’t even allowed to move from the tree he had been sat down at earlier. If everyone could respectfully stop staring at Wild like he is on the verge of collapse he would be immensely grateful. “I mean, really you all! It’s not like magic works particularly well anyways! The potion is probably just a dud or something.” Wild waves his hand through the air for emphasis as if such a conclusion were the most obvious thing on the planet.
Twilight turns to look at Wild from his spot near the younger boy. “What do you mean magic doesn’t work particularly well… No one else here has that problem.”
“I mean that magic just doesn’t really work! It doesn't work particularly well for anyone back home. Purah said it probably has something to do with the fact that almost everyone is part human or something .” Upon seeing Twilight’s exasperated face he continued, “Don’t ask me, that’s just what I was told.”
Twilight lets out a long, suffering sigh and mumbles under his breath, “I… Yeah, that would do it I guess,” before walking over to Time and Warriors. “Don’t worry Wild is fine. The idiot just forgot to mention that he’s part human. Magic just isn’t going to work as well on him.”
“And you are certain that this is the reason the potion didn’t work, how rancher?” The captain side eyes him.
“Grew up in Ordon. Everyone there is human but me.”
“I… okay. Okay cool. Just another thing I need to keep track of for this team. You’d think not having healing magic work effectively would be rather important information to share!” The captain shouts the last part over his shoulder.
“Well if it makes you feel better, Wild is probably right that he’s not dying right now.” Twilight consoles half heartedly patting Wars on the back.
“I just thought of something…” Warriors seem to look deeply horrified. “Is this why Wild makes the fairy tonic? I mean… It would make sense if no other forms of magic were strong enough– Oh by the three…” and with that the captain trails off into stressed ramblings.
“But how do you do your flurry stab thing if you can’t hardly use magic?” Wind chirps up popping out from his rather conspicuous eavesdropping spot behind the tree. (Honestly it's baffling how neither Twilight or Warriors saw him.)
Wild turns around to address Wind, “Well I mean I probably got to be able to use some magic? But it’s not like I really move any faster. It’s just that everything moves slower and my reactions are quicker. Oh! And I get stronger too!”
“Oh cool! How does it activate?”
“Well, I’ve only ever had it activate when I’m like super stressed. Kind of like when I get slammed into the side of a cliff!” Wild says brightly.
Twilight blinks at that statement before butting in dryly, “Wild that’s literally just an adrenaline rush. It’s not magic.”
“Yes it is!” the younger boy gasps dramatically, jumping to his feet. “Neither Flora or Purah have it! You’re just sad you’re not special.”
“Are either Flora or Purah part human?”
“No…”
“Exactly.”
“So, do you know how it works?”
Twilight hesitated for a moment. Admittedly while he did know that it was a thing that happened with humans he wasn’t really sure how it worked. (Twilight would never forget the time when he was little and a wagon flipped on him before Uli lifted it all on her own to get him out with seeming ease. When he had asked Rusl, Link was only told that it was Uli’s maternal instincts.) “Honestly I’m not entirely sure. Back home I was never really able to get a prope–”
“So that means we should experiment!” Wind cuts off excitedly.
Warriors’s head snaps up from his doom spiraling with a look of horror, “No, no ! Absolutely not! You two will be doing no such thing! I know what your idea of ‘let’s experiment ’ is sailor and that is not happening.”
Wind pointedly ignores Warriors and whispers conspiratorially to Wild, “You go left and I’ll go right. He can’t catch the both of us. We reconvene over the hill.”
Wild lets out a snicker and whispers back, “Sounds like a plan.” Surreptitiously the champion glances up to see Warriors still chewing them out. The teen holds up three fingers, “Three, two, one… Go !” And both teens are off like a shot in opposite directions.
Warriors just turns to Twilight, murder in his eyes, “This is all your fault.” Then he just turns away and begins walking off in the direction of Wild and Wind.
“I– Well– That’s not entirely fair! How was I supposed to know they would react like that ?” Twilight sputters before trailing after Warriors. Mostly to run damage control. (Who’s damage is he controlling? Wonderful question! For their own sake, hopefully just Wild and Wind’s!)
Wish him luck…
