Chapter Text
When Dennis pressed in Max's number again later in the afternoon, he was ready to hear it go to voicemail again.
Honestly, it would serve him right for being so goddamn clingy. He was just a parasite to Max. An energy vampire. Honestly, everyone would be better off if he just-
"Hey, Den" the familiar voice of Max Bennett came through the phone. Dennis almost couldn't believe what he was hearing. Before he could find any words to say, Max continued. "I'm so sorry I haven't been answering your calls or reaching out. I haven't had my phone on me all that much"
"Oh"
"I'm here with Jonathan, by the way"
"Oh" Dennis said again, still feeling a bit dumbfounded. "Hi, Jonathan"
"Hey, man" Jonathan replied. "How're you holding up? I heard you were in the hospital"
"Psych ward" Dennis corrected.
"Oh, shit"
"I'm okay, though" Dennis reassured. "I'll be okay. I'm on new meds and stuff"
"Well, hey, I'm glad you're getting help"
"I've missed you" Max spoke up. Dennis felt a part of his heart heal at those words. "I've been sending you texts and memes for when you get your phone back"
"Oh, thank you" Dennis said, feeling incredibly small. "I've missed you too"
The three men spoke for a bit longer before ending the call, leaving Dennis feeling a bit better than he had in a while.
Max didn't hate him, nothing was ruined, and he had friends who cared about him.
Everything's gonna be A-okay.
