And logically—a small part of him knew this would happen, it was bound to. He's not stupid. The world isn't big enough, not really. Not Hawkins, with its one diner and two gas stations and too many ghosts. It's just a handful of streets dressed up like a town. So yeah, maybe he knew. Maybe some night, some drop, the universe would fold in on itself for a third time and bring the two of them together again.
But Steve doesn't even has time to sweat, to breathe before Eddie's voice is cutting the air in two, sharp and angry.
