I looked down at my arm, eerily aware of the mark on the other side of my wrist. On the day of your sixteenth birthday, you get what should be the pleasure of seeing what your soulmate thought or will think about you the first time they see you. But I’d never been one for the tradition, too many horror stories about gay people getting a soulmate who they knew they could never be attracted to, all the stories I’d read about people who’d attempted to end their own lives because even their soulmate thought so lowly of them at some point. I was certain I’d be one of them, just another part of a statistic that I wanted nothing to do with.
