Chapter Text
Dedicated to the summer I always dreamed of but never got the chance to experience.
🌊🌲
Beomgyu shrugged on a light sweater and opened the front door of the guest house to the sound of a rumbling green pickup truck. He wasn’t quite adapted to small town life yet, but Soobin and Madrid were helping. They were easy and fun, always willing to go for a drive, or walk down to the beach to smoke a bowl. They didn’t stop Beomgyu from missing his friends in the city, but he was grateful to have found such cool people to keep him occupied for the last couple weeks.
“Sup losers?” He said as he hopped into the back seat of the truck, buckling himself in behind Madrid, who was in the passenger seat.
Madrid turned in her seat to look at him. “Soobin thinks that ritzy kid that’s been hanging out with us is gonna piss himself tonight.”
“And why exactly do you think that, Soobin?”
Soobin put the truck in gear and glanced up at Beomgyu through the rearview mirror by way of saying hello. “Well last weekend he passed out facedown in the Eaton’s garden. He’s escalating. Maybe not tonight. But it’ll happen, mark my words.”
Beomgyu chuckled. “To his credit, everyone was egging him on at that party.”
Soobin flashed Beomgyu a smile in the rearview, his pretty brown eyes sparkling.
They chatted about whatever during the ride down to Sunday Cove. Beomgyu glanced at Soobin now and then, thinking his hair looked particularly shiny that evening, his eyes particularly bright. He wore a plain white t-shirt with a pale-green button up over it, unbuttoned, and light washed jeans with holes in the knees; real holes that had worn naturally, not the purposefully distressed kind. The way Soobin’s arm muscles moved beneath his skin when he shifted the truck into park was as mesmerizing as the first time Beomgyu had seem them.
It was true, Beomgyu wanted to tap that. But from all he’d gathered in the past weeks of knowing Soobin, he was your average straight dude. So annoying.
They piled out of the truck and the evening’s east-sea air was unbelievably clean, laced with the scent of brine and rich, heady foliage. Beomgyu linked arms with Madrid as they walked the grassy path down to the beach, Soobin carrying the cooler, and various shouts greeted them as they approached.
Tonight, Beomgyu was resolved to put all his missing aside–his city friends, his favorite restaurants, the sounds of sirens and beeping car horns. Yesterday his Auntie Jim had lectured him about “living in the moment” and as cliché as it was, Beomgyu wanted to at least try.
He graciously accepted the beer Soobin offered him and though Beomgyu was tempted to cling to the tall, kind man, he didn’t want to seem like some kind of lost, clingy orphan.
As he was wont to do, Beomgyu settled into place amongst the girls. The way people sex-segregated at social gatherings around here was fascinating. It wasn’t so much that Beomgyu had a lot in common with the girls, but rather that he had absolutely nothing in common with the guys. He felt like a shrimp swimming amongst sharks whenever he tried to join in their conversations. They were all so big… and hairy. And loud.
“So how long are you staying in Anson, then?” Carmine, one of Madrid’s coworkers, asked.
“I don’t really know,” Beomgyu shrugged. “Another week or so? Not long.”
Beomgyu sipped his beer, noting that it was getting low. He looked over at the pile of coolers up by the grass, squinting to try and make out the colors as it was getting dark. He couldn’t even begin to remember which one was Soobin’s.
Beomgyu heard the crunching of boots on rocks, and Soobin appeared between him and Madrid.
“Hey,” Soobin said, the scent of whisky on the word. “Anybody need another beer?”
“I’m good,” Madrid drawled.
“Yes, please.” Beomgyu tossed his now empty bottle into the fire, because that was what everyone else seemed to be doing. When he’d asked about it the others had said something about slag glass, whatever the hell that was.
Soobin vanished as quickly as he had come.
Beomgyu blinked at the fire and turned to Madrid. “He’s so sweet. Is he this nice to everyone?”
Madrid shrugged noncommittally. “He takes good care of the people he loves.”
“Well I don’t think he loves me, he’s only known me for like, two weeks.”
She chuckled. “It doesn’t take him long. He’s like a puppy.”
“A large puppy,” Beomgyu commented. Soobin wasn’t quite as big and burly as the other men around here, but he was still a lot bigger and stronger than Beomgyu. Something Beomgyu found himself thinking about far too often. Mhm.
As much as he missed his friends, Beomgyu really did like Madrid and Soobin more every day. They were just so easy to be around. In many ways, they were a lot easier to be around than his usual friends were, except maybe for his roommate, Yeonjun.
But Madrid and Soobin didn’t care if he wore sweatpants out or didn’t accesorise properly. Not once had they picked apart something Beomgyu said in order to critique it or tell him his hair looked like shit. It was really quite a relief.
Beomgyu told himself he was just in the new-friend honeymoon phase, that was all.
Soobin returned with Beomgyu’s beer, but he didn’t sit down with them right away.
“D’you wanna smoke?” he asked, and now that Madrid had said the word puppy, Beomgyu saw it clear as day. A large puppy indeed. A big, fluffy, friendly, handsome one.
“Yesss,” Beomgyu hissed.
“Mmmnn nah I’ve had enough for now,” Madrid waved them off.
Beomgyu stood from the beach chair he’d been occupying, dusting off his jeans though there really was nothing on them. He refused to sit on the actual beach.
Beomgyu had learned early on that smoking weed on the nighttime beach was never easy. Soobin had to crouch behind a big-ass rock to get the joint lit. Cute.
But windy as Maine was, it was also pretty as hell, Beomgyu couldn’t deny that for one second. The moon was almost full and illuminating the slow waves of the bay and without the city lights, the sky was littered with bright, twinkling stars. Beomgyu couldn’t see any boats on the dark ocean, but he could hear the gentle clang of ropes bumping against masts in the wind; wind that was moist and warm and felt like a sultry dream blowing over Beomgyu’s face. The night was the kind that wrapped you in light arms, where for a few blissful hours there was no need to think about the rest of the world.
Hm. The weed was making him romantic.
The next time Soobin handed the joint over, Beomgyu took it reluctantly. One more hit couldn’t hurt. Except it did, because he pulled a little too hard and ended up with a burning throat, coughing. He handed it back to Soobin and managed to squeak out, “I’m good on that.”
Soobin smiled good-naturedly. “Damn, you okay?”
Beomgyu nodded. “I’m not used to smoking joints. Eugh.” He took a big sip of beer with false hope that it would help.
“You’re so dainty,” Soobin laughed softly, but then cleared his throat. “I mean. I didn’t mean that in a bad way.”
Beomgyu pushed his shoulder, causing him to list sideways a little. “Dainty. The worst insult you can throw at someone.”
Soobin cast his eyes down with a bashful smile. He really was cute. Beomgyu felt like an idiot. He hadn’t gotten a crush on a straight guy since he was twelve years old.
Now that they were done smoking, they walked back towards the fire, where the two apparent sexes had finally decided to blend. There was a handle of whisky being passed around. Beomgyu had to hand it to them, the people of Anson, Maine were generous if nothing else.
He returned to the lawn-chair he’d been in and Soobin plopped down on the pebbles between them. Soobin didn’t care if he got seaweed or dirt or corpse-of-crab or whatever the hell else was creepy-crawling around here on the ass of his jeans. He was an earthy boy.
Beomgyu wasn’t the biggest fan of whisky but it was what they had so he took an obligatory pull from the handle when it was offered to him.
As the night wore on, Beomgyu achieved his goal. He didn’t think about his friends or the city lights. He was just having good, clean, simple fun. Soobin stayed close to him most of the time, which was probably just because Beomgyu was still new and Soobin didn’t want him to feel left out, but regardless, it made Beomgyu happy. He wanted Soobin to be like, heteroflexible at the least. It was so annoying.
Because that was what Beomgyu needed, right? A light, fun, easy summer fling. No emotions, no heartbreak. Just someone with a dick for Beomgyu to ride regularly who is also cool and not an asshole.
They left Soobin’s truck at the beach and walked home, since it wasn’t too far and Soobin was nowhere near being able to drive. Madrid’s tiny beach-house was closest, so she bid them a drunken goodnight.
“It is so fucking dark here, jesus.” Beomgyu kicked a black rock off the center of the dirt road.
“Are you kidding we have like. Almost a whole full moon to see by.” Soobins slurred.
“If you weren’t wearing a white shirt we’d have to hold hands so I don’t get lost.”
Soobin tsked softly. “Damn. I should have worn something else.”
Beomgyu was so caught off guard by the sudden flirtation that he nearly stopped in his tracks. “Okay well then wear a differ'nt shirt next time.”
“Okay then I will.”
“Y’re a real gennleman, y’know that?” Beomgyu mumbled, too tired and tipsy to form correct words. God, it felt like they’d already been walking for an eternity. And the damn road was so uneven. He swayed a little too hard to one side and despite Soobin having drank a fair bit more whisky, he caught Beomgyu before he could fall. “I rest my case.”
“Costs nothin’ to be kind,” Soobin mused. He kept his arm around Beomgyu’s shoulders to keep him balanced and Beomgyu was distinctly aware of this.
“But I thought nice guys finish last.”
They went back and forth like this for another ten minutes until Soobin successfully deposited Beomgyu into the guest house at his aunt’s.
As he dropped into his bed in a drunken haze, Beomgyu wondered what the fuck he was going to do about his goddamn stupid life.
🌊🌲
A few days later, Beomgyu walked with Madrid down to the fishing docks. It wasn’t his favorite place; it smelled like fish-ass and some of the grumbly old fishermen gave him weird looks like they’d never seen a twink before, which, to be fair, they probably hadn’t. But he and Madrid had recently formed a habit of getting together early afternoon, smoking a joint, and then walking down to meet Soobin as he came off the boat, despite the fact that Soobin almost always had to go home and take a shower before actually hanging out. Since he smelled like fish-ass, and all.
Today, Soobin had only just tied onto the dock when they arrived. His grandfather ambled off the boat, moving slow but well for a man in his late sixties. Beomgyu had encountered him before, and he didn’t usually pay him or Madrid much mind.
The main pier was painted green probably a century ago based on the wear and tear, but at least the railings had some upkeep. The pier was a solid twenty feet above the water at low tide, with lots of ramps leading down to lots of docks. At the dock closest to shore, everyone stored their dinghy boats, the small ones they used to get to the bigger boats. Another dock was where the rich folk came and went with their chartered rides. Most of the docks, though, were used for the coming and going of the fishing boats.
Beomgyu couldn’t believe how much he’d learned about boats in the last two and a half weeks. Ugh.
Beomgyu climbed up on the railing and shouted down to Soobin. “Hey! There’s a starfish stuck on your ass.”
At the sound of Beomgyu’s voice, Soobin’s head snapped up, and he broke into a smile bright enough to rival the sun. He waved, but didn’t yell back. Grandpa Choi was already making his way up the ramp. He grunted at Beomgyu and Madrid by way of saying hello, and kept on towards his truck. Beomgyu hopped down from the railing and followed Madrid down the ramp, where Soobin was washing the filthy boat.
“What the hell are those?” Beomgyu asked, pointing to the wide, flat railings of the boat. All of the flat surfaces were covered with what looked like evil little seaweedy balls of tan jelly.
“Sea squirts,” Soobin said as if the things were normal and not horrific.
Beomgyu made a face of disgust, his voice incredulous. “Sea squirts? Are you kidding me?”
Soobin was unphased by Beomgyu’s revulsion. “Yeah they started showing up a year or two ago, they cling onto frigging everything. Climate change thing I guess.”
Beomgyu couldn’t stand looking at the gross little creatures for one more second so he turned his eyes to Soobin. While he and Madrid chatted about the day’s haul (it was crazy how much time people here spent talking about lobsters) Beomgyu couldn’t help eating some of the eye-candy. Soobin’s shirt today wasn’t white but forest-green, pulling tight against his chest and snug over his biceps. His biceps, which just so happened to be glistening with seawater and sparkling with salt, flexed as he moved the hose around to wash off the… sea squirts. God damn that man’s arms… but just as he was about to think about grinding against one of those strong, veiny arms, he heard someone say his name.
Beomgyu blinked himself back to reality. “Hmm?”
Soobin gave him a funny look, which meant he must have noticed Beomgyu staring. Drooling on himself probably would’ve been less obvious.
“We wondered if you wanna ride over to Huntress Island. Go for a quick hike.”
“Ugh.” Beomgyu crossed his arms over his chest. “Sea squirts, boat rides, hiking? No thanks. You guys can come find me after.”
“Oh c’mon city boy, it’ll be fun,” Madrid teased, while Soobin just smiled quietly to himself.
“Sometimes I don’t think you guys realize how small these boats are. Like, have you seen that ocean? How can you possibly feel safe out there.” Beomgyu added some drama by gesturing to the wide open water.
“If you’re smart, you never feel safe out there,” Soobin said with less levity than they’d all been exchanging.
“Then why go out in the first place?”
Soobin shrugged a shoulder. “Because we love it.”
“Mnh. Love should feel safe,” Beomgyu commented. Not that he knew, anyway. He’d never been in love. He glanced down and saw one of the sea squirts horrifically close to his shoe and moved away quickly.
“We can find something else to do,” Madrid offered.
“Nah I don’t want to screw up your guys’s plans,” Beomgyu said.
They went back and forth for a minute before they compromised by planning to re-convene at Courier’s Cove in one hour. Soobin needed to go shower, Madrid wanted to pack a picnic, and Beomgyu still felt a little stony and was thinking about a nap in the sunroom.
But he didn’t nap. He spent however many minutes day-dreaming about Soobin’s arms. Thinking about how Soobin could probably throw him around like a ragdoll. Thinking about how good his skin must smell after a shower. When Gyu felt himself getting hard he smacked himself on the forehead and tried to chill himself with a deep breath. He really needed to find a more viable squeeze for the summer.
To route off his indecent thoughts, Beomgyu did what he usually did when he had time to think. He tried to figure out what to do about his fucking life. But no matter how much he thought about it, his brain just went in circles, circles, no solutions, just repetitions. Just the things he’d done wrong; the things he’d missed when he should have been helping. He wanted to go back to the city, but every time he tried to picture it there was some strange, dark, sad film all over everything. He told himself it was because he wasn’t ready yet; he told himself it wasn’t because of what had happened. He’d come here because he knew on some intuitive level that he needed this quiet. He needed to be somewhere silent enough that he could run those circles in his mind until the track crumbled and he found some kind of solution for his grief.
By the time he went down to Courier’s Cove, he’d worked himself into a crappy mood. Madrid and Soobin were already there, a bottle of wine laying on the blanket between them. They sipped from little blue glasses but it didn’t look like they’d dug into the food yet. Soobin’s hair was still damp from his shower, giving it a little more wave than usual, and he was wearing a thin short-sleeveflannel, with no tank top underneath, only three or four buttons done up in the middle… god. Soobin was too hot for the world.
And yet, for all his hotness, here he was, day after day, with Madrid and Beomgyu. Sure, when they partied he was sociable and friends with lots of people, but for whatever reason Soobin did not have a girlfriend. And as far as Beomgyu could tell, he spent all his free time with Madrid and/or Beomgyu. Beomgyu wondered what it was that kept Soobin single, what might be wrong with him that Beomgyu couldn’t see yet.
Though, the dating options were few around these parts. Beomgyu had installed Tinder when he’d first arrived, only to find exactly two matches within an eighty-mile radius. One of them a 48-year-old man. Not that Beomgyu was above hooking up with a 48-year-old man if he was desperate enough.
After a little while of munching on snacks and wine-sipping, Madrid nudged Beomgyu with her bare foot.
“You seem uncharacteristically grumpy. What’s wrong?”
“Bad nap,” Gyu replied around a mouthful of cheese and cracker.
“Nap gone wrong,” Soobin teased, and Beomgyu almost felt guilty. He wondered just how weirded out Soobin would be if he’d known just how wrong the nap had gone.
Gyu looked out at the water for a minute and turned back towards them.
“Honestly I don’t really feel like I fit in around here but I also am just… not ready to go back to the city.” He wasn’t usually insecure about such things, but given his Aunt and Soobin’s grandmother had set up their first meeting, he couldn’t help wondering if they really wanted him around. A play-date at age twenty-two wasn’t the most normal way to meet new friends.
“You fit in just fine!” Madrid protested.
Soobin’s eyes were heavy on Beomgyu’s face, but he didn’t say anything.
Gyu sighed, leaning back on his hands, legs outstretched. “I don’t really think I do, Madrid.”
“You fit in with us,” Soobin said, tossing a gummy bear into his mouth. “We don’t fit in around here either, so.”
“Yes you do!” Beomgyu said, incredulous.
“Not really,” Soobin insisted, though his tone was casual. He was destroying those gummy bears, pretty lips and nose reminding Beomgyu more of a bunny than a puppy at that moment.
“People are really nice around here, but fitting in, in terms of like, actually wanting to hang out and spend time like this with people? Nah.” Madrid pushed her curly hair out of her face.
Beomgyu squinted at both of them. From what he’d gathered, both of them were committed to living in this town, or Maine at least, “Is this the same thing as the whole, ‘we still love the ocean even though we fear it’ thing?”
Soobin gave an adorable smile and nodded. Beomgyu couldn’t help but smile back.
🌊🌲
Another night, another party. There really wasn’t that much else to do around here. Beomgyu wasn’t sure how much a part of “clearing his head” all the drinking and smoking weed was but, whatever. It was summer! He wanted to have fun, and now that he more or less trusted that Madrid and Soobin didn’t find him to be an annoying pest, he felt more relaxed.
Despite it being summer, the day was on the cooler side. Beomgyu dug through his clothes for what felt like an eternity until he found a viable outfit. He didn’t know why he was even bothering though, because there wasn’t really anyone to impress around here. At the least, he was hoping to look cute enough to maybe trigger a gay awakening for one of the stupid guys around here. Maybe Soobin. Ha. Beomgyu was not used to going this long without regular sex and his own hands and the fuckass dildo he’d brought with him were not keeping him satisfied in the slightest.
So, he managed to look cute, he hoped. Slim light-washed jeans, a tight-fitting tanktop with a little cropped sweater to keep him warm but show off his waist. Cute pink converse.
The house where tonight’s party was being held was close to Beomgyu’s aunt’s, so he’d planned to meet Soobin and Madrid there. He needed a little walk to clear his head, anyway. He’d woken up feeling bleak, and confused, and tired despite having gotten more sleep in the last month than he had in the last year combined.
His friends were already starting to give him shit for being gone so long. They’d never liked the idea of him coming here in the first place. But there was something in their tone that bothered Beomgyu, though he couldn’t pin down exactly what.
Oh well. At least he had another night of drinking and smoking weed and watching dumb men make assholes of themselves to distract himself from the horrors.
He didn’t exactly sort anything out by the end of his walk, but he was ignoring the truth that was thrumming in his core.
He just wanted to stay here a little longer. There was still plenty of summer left. It was fine.
Beomgyu found the house, a pretty big one with three stories and faded blue paint, white trim. He could already hear excitable voices out in the backyard, and he debated for a second if he should go in through the front door or just walk around back. But before he could decide, a familiar shape emerged from the side of the house.
Soobin broke into that gorgeous smile that seemed to be his way of saying hello, and he trotted over.
“Hey! How’s it goin’?”
Beomgyu couldn’t help but notice that Soobin subtly looked him up and down as he approached. Maybe he just thought the pink sneakers were dumb.
“Fine. What’re you doing?”
Soobin was still holding eye contact, and he took a few seconds to answer. “Um. Yeah, I was gonna go get some beer from the house. You want something?”
“Lead the way, lobsterboy,” Beomgyu gestured towards the porch, feeling strangely nervous and lost but also excited though he didn’t really know why. He followed Soobin, and realized that he had also dressed a little finer that night; no holes in his dark jeans, a black button-up shirt with a white tank underneath, a simple silver chain around his neck and some kind of braided bracelet on his wrist. And had he blow-dried his hair back? Fuck. Goddamn. He looked so good.
When Soobin opened the door for Beomgyu like a perfect gentleman, Beomgyu felt like he was actually going to freak the fuck out. Was he going crazy? Was Soobin looking at him like that? Or was Beomgyu just so horny that his testosterone-soaked brain was imagining that Soobin was into him? By the time they reach the kitchen, he hadn’t figured anything out.
“Did you have a good day?” Soobin asked.
Beomgyu shrugs. “It was all right. You?”
“Terrible. The pot hauler kept jamming and my Grandpa has zero patience for that shit.”
“Oh, you poor darling,” Beomgyu said, and Soobin looked back to shoot him another smile; looking at him a little longer than normal, again.
“What do you want to drink?”
Fuck it, Beomgyu thought. Let’s go for it.
He moved closer to Soobin, closer than normal, looking a little coy. “Something mixed, maybe?”
Soobin didn’t move away as he opened the fridge and squinted. “Hmmn. There is orange juice and half a bottle of Coke, but to be honest the Coke looks… not right.”
“A screwdriver then?”
“Sure.”
Beomgyu expected Soobin to hand him the orange juice and then grab his own beer. But nope. Soobin closed the fridge and started banging around the kitchen like he lived here. He filled a mason jar with ice, even grabbed a damn shot glass to measure the vodka.
“Grenadine?”
“Sure.”
Soobin finished his bartending and patted the counter next to the drink. “There you go.”
Beomgyu made sure to meet his eyes. “Thanks.”
“Anytime.” Soobin returned to the fridge for his drink. His ears looked a little red.
It occurred to Beomgyu that none of the guys he’d ever dated had mixed him a drink before.
Outside, the party was already raging despite the early hour. Day drinking was very much a thing here. There was a game of apparently very serious beer pong going on, dudes yelling at each other across the table, aggressively throwing their baseball caps to the ground when they lost. Beomgyu was glad when Soobin led him to the opposite side of the lawn, where Madrid and a few much more relaxed people were standing and sitting around a tiny fire pit.
When Madrid spotted them, her arms opened wide and she swayed over to them.
“BEOMGYUUUUU!” She hugged him tightly and then pulled away to smile at him. Her pupils were fucking huge.
“Are you tripping balls?” Beomgyu asked with a smirk.
Madrid nodded happily.
“Is there any left?”
Her smile dropped. “Noooo Gyu I’m so sorry… Next time I swear. I swear.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Beomgyu laughed. He wasn’t trying to visit a different world tonight, though the thought was tempting.
She hugged him again and then tottered back to the girl she was clearly tripping with, coworker apparently turned friend Carmine.
He looked up at Soobin. “No shrooms for you?”
Soobin shook his head with a smile. “It’s strictly a beer night for me. Gotta be on the dock at five-thirty.”
“Eugh,” Beomgyu made a noise of true disgust and took a haul off his perfectly mixed drink. “Why the fuck so early? I thought 6 was your take-off time.”
Soobin shrugged. “That’s just when Gramps wants to go out.”
“Soobin, really… how do you do it?”
“I get to sleep in the rest of the year.”
“Except when you’re on your freaky Deadliest Catch trip,” Beomgyu commented. He felt a strange prickle of anxiety. Soobin really was crazy, spending all summer out there and then taking up a deep-sea job or two during the winter. So much time on that merciless ocean.
“Yeah, that month I just don’t sleep at all.”
“That seems dangerous.”
Soobin elbowed him gently, barely a touch. “I’m kidding. They let us sleep for like, an hour.”
Beomgyu elbowed Soobin back, a little rougher because he knew Soobin could handle it. “You’re insane.”
And thus ensued another night of merriment, revelry, and Beomgyu coming up with any excuse he could to touch Soobin. There were a lot of people at the party Beomgyu didn’t know and by eight pm Madrid was in the wind, but Soobin never left his side. He offered to mix Beomgyu more drinks, but Beomgyu switched to beer after two. Beers Soobin insisted on fetching. If he was not hallucinating and there was even the slightest, smallest, most infinitesimal chance Soobin was going to fuck him tonight, Beomgyu didn’t want to be too boozed up. He literally didn’t even care if he was Soobin’s experimentation phase, he just wanted to get it in.
The second screwdriver had definitely made him giggly, though. Soobin’s arm felt way too good under his hands. There were many times he looked up at Soobin to find those rich, deep-brown eyes already on him and it put goosebumps on his skin. There was one time they were chatting with separate groups and Beomgyu glanced over to see Soobin’s eyes lingering on him again, but this time with a glistening hunger. He didn’t immediately look away, but rather held Beomgyu’s gaze for a few seconds, looking him up and down again, before slowly turning his head back to the group. It sent chills down Beomgyu's spine.
But despite the familiar signals, he still feared he was being horny-delusional.
Not long after that moment, Soobin returned to Beomgyu’s side and stood so close he could feel the warmth of his body, smell his faint, salty cologne. It made him shiver.
“I uh… gotta go soon.” There was something unspoken in the words.
Beomgyu ignored a pang of disappointment and looked up at him, pouting. “How soon?”
“A few minutes. Don’t feel like you need to leave, though, if you’re having fun.”
Beomgyu was having fun; he was getting over his reactive fear of the ‘dudes,’ realizing that once he talked to a few of them, everyone was really nice. But he didn’t want to stay without Soobin there.
“Nooo I’ll walk with you. Maybe if Madrid wasn’t in another dimension I would stay but an early night won’t kill me.”
Soobin just nodded, still standing so damn close.
They found Madrid upstairs in the bathtub with Carmine. One of their phones was between them on the floor of the tub, playing some chill music.
Madrid greeted them much like she did earlier. “BEOMGYUUUUU, SOOOBIIIN.”
“We’re heading out,” Beomgyu got down on his knees to hug her goodbye. She squeezed him and kissed his cheek, a little sloppily. “Please don’t get hurt,” Beomgyu chided.
“Oh, pfffft, we’re fine,” she shook her head, waving them off. “Goodniiiiight,” Carmine chimed in.
Soobin and Beomgyu waved goodbye to both of them, and they were off.
Beomgyu had had just the right amount of alcohol to make it impossible to shut up. He talked Soobin’s ear off for the duration of the short walk to the guest house. Beomgyu was trying to figure out if the tension he was feeling was totally within himself or was really stretching between the two of them. As they approached the porch, Beomgyu hopped up onto the bottom step, and turned to face Soobin. It felt funny being eye level with him for a change.
Beomgyu decided it was now or never. He oh-so-casually threw his arms around Soobin’s neck. Soobin didn’t seem bothered at all, didn’t even flinch. Just kept looking at him with sultry brown eyes.
“So… just gonna go home and go to sleep, huh?” Beomgyu tilted his head, turning his pout on.
Soobin hesitated, swallowed with difficulty. “Not if I get a better offer.”
“You could… come hang out with me for a little bit.”
Soobin nibbled his bottom lip. “Sure.”
Beomgyu kinda understood how those idiot football players feel when they score a touchdown and start acting ridiculous. But instead of punching the air and hollering like the beer pong players he just hiked his shoulder to his chin, coy. “Okay Soobinnie.”
He led Soobin into the house, and Beomgyu was glad he had tidied up earlier. His bed looked nice and cozy, and he turned on his fairy lights instead of the main switch. He turned to Soobin and was surprised when Soobin grabbed his waist and pulled him in, hesitating only slightly before bringing their lips together. In an instant Beomgyu felt like his whole world and existence and brain were coated in warm honey. Soobin’s lips were so soft, so much softer than he’d imagined, and Beomgyu happily parted his own when he felt a slip of tongue.
It seemed Beomgyu wasn’t the only one who was starving. Soobin kissed him in a way he had never been kissed, passionate and desperate but somehow not shallow; romantic even. One big hand stayed on Beomgyu’s waist, while the other held the back of his neck with just the right amount of pressure.
Somehow they made it to the bed with lips locked. It was only once Beomgyu was lying down, Soobin hovering above him, that Soobin hesitated, a light wash of nervousness brushing over him. Beomgyu recognized it and reached up, pulling Soobin in again, assuring him that this was exactly what he wanted and exactly what they were supposed to be doing tonight and if Soobin didn’t know exactly how to fuck a guy that was fine.
As the air between them grew more heated, Beomgyu reached his quota of dry humping. He unhooked Soobin’s belt and undid the button of his jeans. He could feel Soobin’s hard cock against his own through their jeans, but he wanted his hand on it.
Soobin’s breath hitched when Beomgyu touched him, his eager motions slowing.
“Oh,” Beomgyu puffed with realization. Big. It was big.
“W-what?”
Beomgyu just smiled up at Soobin, brushing their noses. “You didn’t tell me you had a horse-cock.”
“Why would I tell you that!” Soobin laughed, burying his head in the crook of Beomgyu’s neck. But his laughter devolved quickly into a moan when Beomgyu started stroking him through his boxer-briefs, slow and steady.
As big and strong as Soobin was, he was more than pliable in Beomgyu’s hands. Gyu rolled them over so he could straddle Soobin, and the other man looked up at him with sweet, earnest doe-eyes.
Oh, I want to ruin him, Beomgyu thought.
So he did. And as it turned out, Soobin did know how to fuck a guy. Beomgyu prepped himself while Soobin sucked his cock like a starving man, and the alcohol made everything just a little quicker and easier. By the time Beomgyu started sliding down onto Soobin’s dick he thought Soobin could possibly ruin him, too.
Then he thought of nothing except the incredible slick feeling of Soobin’s heat sliding in and out as he rode him mercilessly. And jesus, weren’t the sounds coming out of Soobin’s mouth sweet-–needy moans and grunts, heavy breath, keening as his head threw back into the blankets and pillows. He gripped Beomgyu’s thighs like they were the only thing keeping him on the earth, fucking up into him like his cunt was the gates of heaven itself. It was easy to tell when he was about to cum and Beomgyu thanked God because he’d nearly spurted everywhere the moment Soobin was entirely inside him.
All in all, the actual sex lasted a devastatingly short amount of time. They were both just too pent up.
Beomgyu rolled off of Soobin with a groan, quickly grabbing his discarded undies to try and prevent what felt like a fucking gallon of semen from dumping onto his bed. They lay there without speaking for a little while, catching their breath. Beomgyu was the first to talk.
“I thought you were straight.”
Soobin cleared his throat. “Nope.”
Beomgyu chuckled and then cursed when he felt the cum drip out of his ass. “Well yippee for me. Wish you’d been more obvious a little earlier.” He heard a brush of fabric, Soobin’s shrug in response.
“I wasn’t sure I was your type.”
Beomgyu flopped his arm over and gave Soobin’s now-soft cock a firm pat, which had Soobin curling up, hands shooting down to defend his vulnerable dick, which in turn gave Beomgyu another laugh. “You are. C’mon. Let’s shower.”
Once they were washed up and back in the bedroom, Soobin put on his boxers, then sat on the edge of the bed while he pulled his shirt back on. “I guess uh. I should head home.”
Beomgyu waved his hand. Both of their voices were sleepy and scratchy, words a little slower than usual. “Noo, it’s late, just stay here.”
“Are you sure? I have to get up extra early.”
“It’s fineeee, oh my god.”
The truth was, Beomgyu wanted him to stay. He wasn’t ready for Soobin’s big, warm presence to disappear. Maybe he just didn’t feel like being alone. Beomgyu didn’t know. It was late, his drunkenness had faded to sleepiness, and he was fucked out. He just wanted Soobin to stay; needed him to stay.
“Okay,” Soobin said in a soft, unsure way that brought an abrupt pang to Beomgyu’s chest.
Soobin didn’t put on any more of his clothes. Instead, he took his shirt off again, and gladly joined Beomgyu beneath the light summer blankets.
🌊🌲
A sharp tinkling noise ripped through Beomgyu’s black world at four-thirty goddamn AM. He whined in protest, but Soobin–Soobin? Soobin in his bed, holy shit–turned the alarm off quickly.
“What the fuck, dude,” Beomgyu groaned into his pillow. “How do you do this every day.”
“I tried to warn you,” Soobin said, his words morphing into a yawn. A few moments of quiet, then came all the little sounds people make in the mornings–the deep sigh, the rustle of blankets as Soobin rubbed his eyes and stretched.
Beomgyu was pissed off that he had to leave. Just absolutely cranky and pissed. “Can’t you call out?”
“Doesn’t really work that way,” Soobin said with a hint of mirth before getting up. “Man. It’s going to be hot today.”
Beomgyu whined like a petulant child while Soobin gathered his discarded clothing in the dark. Waking up before sunset was simply beyond the pale. Beomgyu heard him go into the bathroom, heard him return after a few minutes.
“I’ll see you later,” Soobin said quietly.
Beomgyu was surprised when Soobin leaned down and pressed a warm, dry kiss to his face. Before Beomgyu could think too much about it, he fell back asleep.
When Beomgyu woke up again, he lay on his back and stared at the ceiling for awhile. Soobin was right. It was hot as fuck. Part of him was laced with disbelief–did that actually happen last night? But really the most surprising part wasn’t that Soobin had fucked him, but that it had been an exceptionally good fuck, even being a little drunk and both of them too horny to last long. Or was it just that Beomgyu was so deprived, it only seemed like one of the best fucks of his life? He was really starting to doubt his own sanity when he rolled over and yep… Soobin’s scent was on his pillow, on the sheets. Clean, fresh oceanwater, and a hint of pine. Beomgyu pretended he wasn’t breathing a little deeper than usual.
He wallowed for a little longer before rolling the other way and snatching his phone off the bedside stand. Drowned amongst the usual useless morning notifications was a text from Soobin.
‘good morning’
Beomgyu smiled and tapped out a quick reply.
‘Would have been even better if u had slept in with me!!!’
He threw his phone on his bed and finally got up to make some coffee and breakfast. The guest house didn’t have a real kitchen, but Beomgyu could fry an egg on a hot-plate and make toast, at least. Once he was settled with the tv on, he checked his phone again, but there was nothing from Soobin, or Madrid, for that matter. Beomgyu hoped she hadn’t fallen into an existential abyss or something, so he texted her too, for good measure. Not long after that, his phone buzzed with Soobin’s reply.
‘i can sleep in tomorrow’
Fuck yes, Beomgyu thought, a little concerned at how giddy he felt, but he told himself it was just excitement at finally finding a fuck buddy. He wasn’t looking for anything serious, and Soobin knew that. Beomgyu had made it clear from day one that he didn’t plan on staying here for more than a few weeks.
But a few weeks had already passed… Beomgyu shook his head. He hadn’t figured anything out about his damn life, so why go back to the city so soon? Besides, now that he was over the initial culture shock, he was actually having a lot of fun in Anson.
Yeah. That’s all this was. Just fun.
He opened Soobin’s chat and sent his reply.
‘good.’
