Summary
A coffee shop AU but the coffee is snakes.
Or: In which Harry lives in the snake-infested equivalent of a TARDIS and pseudo-adopts an incredibly confused but still relentlessly ambitious Tom Riddle.
Tom thought he was hallucinating, to begin with. Suddenly, between the dilapidated Potions store and the magical equipment repair store, there was a dizzyingly green overgrowth of plants and vines and venomous flowers that only parted to show a door when one stood directly opposite it. The greenery practically burst out of the walls and even between the cobbles of the cobblestone path outside, as though it was carnivorous, insatiable, uncontainable.
He initially presumed that it might be some kind of exotic plant shop, but then he heard the whispers from within, and noticed that, if he squinted, the twisting, writhing vines above the door seemed to spell out a single word: Serpensortia.
Tom was inside the door before he knew it.

“You, an adult?” Tom shot back, deciding to not even address Harry’s characteristic non-sequitur about a time of day.
“Tom,” Harry said, in a more tired iteration of how he’d said ‘sweetheart’ earlier, “I’m so far beyond an adult that I scarcely know what to do with how much of an adult I am.”
“You sound like you’re younger than I am,” Tom persisted in his meaningless argument, not even understanding why he was persisting. “You sound like Dumbledore if Dumbledore ingested even more laudanum than he already does and also got de-aged to a five-year-old. A five-year-old with the attention span of a three-year-old.”
“Your faith in my maturity astounds me,” Harry said wryly, but to Tom’s relief, he seemed to be recovering his indefatigable good mood, as if Tom’s scathing words had assured him that Tom was not traumatised by what hadn’t even been a carnal interaction, not really.
