Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

******'s POV

At first it was all black. Without my vision to guide me, all I could do was feel a insane amount of pain running through my body. Despite knowing that I had zero external wounds, I couldn't avoid but thinking about how much I hate side effects.

I was facing a hard ground, with some effort I turned to lay on my back until I could see the stars above me. While slowly recovering my senses, the pain got bearable until the point where it was like it had never been there. As my vision and balance got better, I could finally get up and look around.

I had safely landed on the roof of a building. Some would argue that pain is not a sign of a 'safe landing', but, considering that in my first try I ended up stuck in a wall, I can testify that it isn't that bad.

It was the middle of the night.

It's funny, cause I didn't knew that being exposed to a chilly wind while in blood soaked clothes would be so uncomfortable. Decided to ignore that, instead I changed my focus to the city that surrounded me. So familiar, but so different.

Some places that I knew since I was a child couldn't be seen anymore. When facing the unknown, I caught myself feeling a peculiar mix of emotions that I hadn't felt before. The fear of failing once again was massive, but the hope of making things right was starting to take control over me.

My thoughts were interrupted by a noisy disturbance happening some blocks down.

— It's Batman! Run! — Between other incomprehensible screams and shouts, I could have a grip of what was happening.

Curious to see the clear ending to be unfolded, I was with my arms extended in front of me, ready to do my little magic trick one more time. Just to take a peek on the scenario.

Unfortunately... my stomach had other plans as it was acting like it hadn't had food for years. I guess this is what happens when you travel time and space.

— Well, that's a bummer. — I rolled my eyes letting a big bank fall right into my vision field. Smiling, I had a realization. — I should probably get a little bit of money first.

Jason's POV

— Care to explain to me why are you here disturbing my so desired rest? — I raised my brows without taking my eyes from the bandage that I was wrapping in my hand. Some little shit thought it would be funny to try to slice it. Thankfully, my glove got most of the damage.

Even though I wasn't looking at him, I could feel Dick's impatient stare on me. Realizing that this was the maximum amount of attention I would give to him, he sighed and started talking.

— A few hours ago I've received a message from Rachel. — I looked at him a bit confused. I could swear that he was going to repeat Bruce's usual nagging about how I should be less violent in my patrols...— It seems like a portal from other universe was opened, and its destiny was Gotham. She didn't knew who, or what, opened it. But she's pretty sure that is demonic magic. — Yeah, this clearly didn't went the way I was assuming it was going to.

— So what? Does this mean that the little titans are going to take over Gotham's problems? — I smirked at this thought. A green tiger and a alien woman would be an interesting addition to this city full of maniacs.

Dick ignored my commentary and sat near Max on the couch. The traitor didn't hesitate before putting his head on Dick's lap and asking for a pat, which he happily gave.

He wants you to work with us. — I laughed without humor. Of course it was going to come back to this topic. — Just this time. We don't know the danger of this situation yet, and we need all eyes and information that we can get. — My somewhat brother looked at me with those sad little eyes full of expectation.

Unfortunately, he has a point.

Visitations from people of other universes were not unusual occurrences. But depending on what came here this time, things could get pretty hectic.

Turning my face to the window, I asked:
— So, what's the plan?
